I just had Bread Garden Market cater my appetizers and desserts at my wedding. I cant tell you how easy they made it. The communication with Christa was phenomenal. The servers were so kind. Everyone LOVED their cannolis and cheesecake!!! Would recommend to anyone needing a caterer!

The worst customer experience. I’ve been getting the same latte here over ten years. Today the girl insisted on the additional honey I asked before receiving a cup was supposed to be charged. She said that with such an attitude as if I were trying to avoid paying. I said that honey was used to be on the counter for the customer to use it, and I didnt know that they changed it. She repeated twice that I supposed to have charged for it and to make sure paying for it in the future. When I insisted to pay for it, she said “Just get your cup and go. You are wasting my time.” At that point we became really loud, and a manager-like person came and told me to go without paying for honey. I never had customer service issue like this, and never had a loud quarrel in the public. I was surprised that they allow a college girl to yell at customer to leave because Im wasting her time. And this was just all because I insisted on paying for honey after her very demeaning attitude.

I love their salads and sandwiches. I also really enjoy their hummus. Overall its a great place in downtown Iowa City for a quick meal and/or a quick grocery run.

The staff is awesome and fairly helpful and I love the patio and wifi and especially the gelato and baked goods area.

Warning for corn allergy sufferers. My husband ate a wonderful hamburger, lettuce, tomato and fries for lunch.No bun.He had the corn reaction. Upon leaving he was unable to walk unassisted or communicate clearly. The restaurant evidently uses corn oil in the fries. He was sick until late that evening.

Staff is personable and their freshly made food like their sandwiches and marinated caprese salad is spot-on and awesome for a grab-and-go meal while exploring Iowa City. Prices arent super cheap but they charge more because of the quality and freshness. They have hard-to-find fruits, vegetables, and snacks too!

Expensive, but an Iowa City staple. From the hot bar food, to the coffee stand to the fresh baked goods. Bread Garden is a must walkthrough if youre in the PED mall area.

I loved the burritos here. I’ve been getting them 2-4/week for the last three years. The prices have gone up and they keep getting smaller and smaller. They were comparable in size to chipotle, but now they’re about as big as a hot pocket.

Incredible affordable bread (perfect sourdough loaf for 2.50!) and awesome $5 lunch options from the market fresh kitchen. Also, the fries are the best Ive ever eaten - hand cut, crunchy like a chip on the outside, creamy on the inside. I try to stay away from fries but theyve got me hooked...

Very nice local grocery store! One of the best wine selections in town. Make sure to check out their lunch and dinner options which you can order from the kiosks! They have a phenomenal deli counter and a very nice selection considering the size of the store. They have a coffee counter which is okay, but the coffee grounds they sell that you grind yourself is very good! They have a produce section, bakery, meat counter, a bar, and much more!

We are so glad we went with Bread Garden Market to cater our wedding. The food was DELICIOUS!! It was just excellent. We did a served buffet which went very smoothly and helped guests feel safer during the era of COVID. All of the staff was extremely professional and friendly.Christa worked with us to select our menu and plan our reception and she was fantastic. She was kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable.We felt very secure working with a company with so much catering experience. Plus, their prices were very reasonable.My husband and I very happily recommend Bread Garden Market for event catering.

I used Bread Garden Catering for my wedding this past weekend and I can not say enough good things about the experience. Allison was so wonderful from start to finish between coordinating tastings and simply being patient through my emails. She always answered my questions quickly and concisely. We used their services for both food and bar at our event and they were both wonderful. Everyone had so many good things to say about the appetizers, dinner, and drinks. The staff was very friendly to both us and our guests. If you are looking for a company to cater your next event, I can not recommend Bread Garden enough!

My husband is being treated at UIHC. Today I purchased a chicken BLT for him at the hospital. It wasn’t exactly a BLT. There was bacon but barely any lettuce, no tomato, no mayonnaise or packets of it.So, it was very dry. I’m also appalled that the cost is $8.50 when a patient has a limited choice for food purchase.

Food is soso but wonderful bar options. Can also buy a bottle of wine and sit in porch area and enjoy.

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday to grab lunch and the Spanish guys behind the counter cooking the food treated us really rude and tried to make it seem like we were stealing food in the use to love to come here not anymore

Love that it’s not only a market, but also a restaurant. The food is affordable and you get a lot of it for a great price. I highly recommend eating at the restaurant or the hot food bar. Everything tastes so fresh. The tacos are amazing.

Amazing customer service! My friend had visited me in San Diego a couple years ago and fell in love with a sauce from a local business at our farmers market. She traveled back to Iowa with several containers, and we thought she wouldnt have it again until she returned for another visit. However, as it turns out, the sauce is actually available at natural grocery stores in Iowa!Bread Garden Market typically doesnt offer grocery delivery, but they made an exception as my friend is currently in the hospital and I wanted to send her this sauce. They worked seamlessly as a team to connect me with the right people. Allison from their catering department was very organized and made the process so simple. They delivered to her room just a few hours after I had placed the order. Thank you for making this happen!P.S. The sauce is called Bitchin Sauce, and you must try it if you havent already.

I just ordered from the deli and the sandwich was good, but the exponential wait time and lack of customer service left a bitter taste in my mouth. The deli worker with a tie dye hat spent more time openly responding to his phone than taking the time to make my 4 ingredient sandwich. I hope he sanitized his phone before working, because he never switched his gloves the whole time while making my sandwich.

Greedy management. Constantly raising the prices. Seems like they only care about the opinions of the rich.

Love the quality of the food and products and they fantastic wine choices

Nice prepared food selections. You should be able to find something there that you want to eat- soups, salads, sushi, and many other items. We walked through wishing we were hungry because everything looked so good. We ended up grinding some peanut and almond butters and buying a loaf of the delicious artisan bread for later. There is a nice big room near the entrance for dining.

Ordered catering from here--delicious! The pasta bar was excellent; I was worried about them serving mac and cheese because that can go really wrong, but it was absolutely fantastic. Service was punctual and friendly. Decent price and good portion sizes.

Have been coming here since I moved to Iowa City in 2015. Their spiced local tofu is so good in a burrito/burrito bowl - good atmosphere and good range of local products to buy.

Great time visiting here with my wife. Fun place to go, both to eat and shop. Wide variety of items to purchase, and their grill had nice amount to choose from, reasonably priced too. Went for breakfast, and the scrambles were fun to customize and tasted very good. Highly recommend!

While the food they provide is wonderful and the atmosphere is good, they have a lot of work to do in terms of sustainability. It is sometimes difficult to bring your own containers to shop in bulk. Their register system does not work well at all with bulk shopping if you bring your own jar. But to shoppers reading this: dont be discouraged! Continue to ask management and employees about the issue and hopefully the market will fix the problem!

They always have good food. It is a little pricey though. If you have the money to spend then this place is definitely worth your time.

Love Bread Garden. They catered my wedding and everyone still talks about the food 3 years later. Tasty donuts and pastries. Love the lunch offerings and they cycle through discounts so you can try everything from tacos to pizza for $4 during the week! They also do a wine tasting Fridays which is fun and informative.

My favorite fresh bread in Iowa City with freshly baked giant pretzels on Fridays. The grill food and pizza have always been satisfying. Great coffee and a pastry deal from 4-6pm.

You can get everything from boutique international snacks, vegan baked goods, high end produce and fresh bread to redbull and Cheetos. Hot bar and made to order grill make lunch options great. I miss the in house meat department. Was the best in Iowa City.

One of my favorite places in Iowa City. I love their food kiosks and their homemade ice cream from the back freezer. I have trouble finding outlets that work when I try to study here, but I usually just come for the food + atmosphere :)

If I could describe this place, it is like a Whole Foods in Boulder, but with a restaurant attached to it. I am personally from Colorado and know that it is hard to obtain that Colorado vibe sometimes, but the fact that this place is in Iowa and still remained me of home oddly enough. Great customized food service.

Great bread and pastries.

Allison and her crew always do a top notch job at weddings/events. From start to finish they are incredibly kind, positive and full of passion to provide the highest level of service possible. They set the bar extremely high for wedding/event catering in this area.

I wanted a whole chicken. A simple $5 whole chicken. I was informed that even though they were sitting in a cooler 10 feet from me that because the guy had the wrong name tag they couldnt get it for me. Customer service rating F -. Go to Hy Vee. At least there meat department is open.

This is a cute grocery store, it has a very great first impression on new comers. The Gelato is delicious along with the bakery items. Favorite thing to get is the fresh burgers and a Croissant. You can also get a quick snack or drink.

This grocery store has a great buffet perfect for lunch or dinner. I enjoy eating lunch with some of their tasty soups than picking up whatever I need to make dinner. This place has a large wine and beer selection. It also has a coffee bar. They make lots of tasty bakery items made in-house including great chocolate dipped coconut macaroon cookies.

Lots of high-quality items, including fresh produce, wine, cheeses, and other things typical of grocery stores. I really like it because its such a convenient place for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The market and hot food from the made as you order cafe are anazing. Their bakery was also top notch. We will be definitely stopping back there when we take our daughter back to college!

Great little grocery store located in downtown. They have their own parking lot, which can get crowded from time to time. Still though love coming here. If they dont have it, you probably dont need it. A smidge higher on their prices, but Id much rather stop by here any time than visit a big box grocer. Also they have a wonderful little selection of tarts and pastries.

Food are very tasty but also expensive. Get these for 12 dollars.

I love the Bread Garden. I get coffee or lunch there at least once a week. My friends often meet for a beer at the outdoor patio after bike rides. There is a covered portion that is enclosed when its too hot or cold. You can buy beer from the store or they have local Reunion beers on tap by the patio.

Great place for buying Groceries..

I am a huge fan of bread garden in Iowa city. It is so convenient and has so many options for grocery shopping. In addition to the groceries, they have great hot food ready all day. They make excellent burgers and chicken sandwiches. I would also recommend their breakfast options as well.

Great deli and good fresh bread

What a fun, unexpected treasure! Grocery, bakery, deli, restaurant all in one! A little pricey for groceries, but their breads are works of art and reasonably priced. Lots of choices for lunch from buffet sold by weight, to soups, to specials of the day. I had the salmon patty, and an orange. The patty was surprisingly cold, but delicious, and the orange expensive (about 90 cents) but also delicious. Great spot with lots of light to sit and eat with an eclectic mix of business people in expensive suits, to street workers in their gear, to students, to a homeless man enjoying a gifted meal. Fascinating! Highly recommend!

This is a cool place. We love the $5 meals they offer! Its a great deal! Some of the staff are rude but the ice cream guy is super friendly!

Essential spot for any Iowa student. For fast fresh warm food, or just groceries, its the place.

The Bread Garden could aptly be named the garden of eatin . A huge selection of freshly prepared food to match any taste and appetite! I stopped in mid-morning on Saturday for a mug of robust coffee and an incredibly delicious pecan roll.

They offer a little coffee shop which is great, but has some problems. First off, my drink was good but not what I ordered. I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee. What I got was cold brew regular coffee with sweetened condensed milk and cream mixed up in it. I was in a hurry and didnt want to explain what was wrong with the drink holding everyone up. I sent time studying in Vietnam and fell in love with the coffee. Vietnamese iced coffee is made from brewed chicory root coffee that has a very distinctive flavor, it is served in a glass of iced with a pool of sweetened condensed milk at the bottom. The pool at the bottom allows the drinker to chose to stir in as much as they would like to reach whatever sweetness they desire. This store smells wonderful and has good coffee, but they should not offer items on the cafe menu they do not know how to make. My coffee was good, but not what I ordered so 3 stars for them.

Its amazing how they fit such a huge assortment of products in this place. Its a treasure trove of international foods, and the beer selection alone is tremendous. But the best part of all might be sitting with a drink or a meal and watching life pass by on the ped mall.

Consider the wine tastings on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. They are really fun and the wines are always interesting.

Bread Garden Market is one of my favorite places to eat. When I was in undergrad, I ate there constantly. Almost every Friday, and the introduction of the quick kiosks made meals so affordable for students.

This is a great place to both shop and eat. The store part is well organized with a great selection of fresh foods. The eatery side is delicious, cheep, and convenient. I usually have the burrito or the burger but I had the tuna poke bowl and it was wonderful as well.

I usually give there fir their great buffet style lunch or dinner. A lot of tasty items from macncheese to all types of salad creations to sandwiches and wraps. Their soup selection is plentiful and delicious. You could get some grocery items as well and baristas serving up lattes and chais at the coffee bar.The staff is knowledgeable and helpful.

I love BG. Come here for a nice cheap lunch. They offer hamburgers, tacos, chicken sandwiches, burritos and even poke bowls! I used to come here almost every day because it was so cheap for lunch. I love the samples they offer, they have a nice meat market, and a huge wine/beer selection. I would sleep here if they let me. What do you say, Jim?

Whats not to love about the Bread Garden? They always have a fantastic selection of foods in their daily buffet. Fresh baked breads are oh so good! And you can shop for groceries, too.

Love this little downtown grocery/deli/cafe... youre going to pay a little more than you do at HyVee, but its independent, its local and everything is high quality. Its always money well spent. Highly recommended for enjoying a meal or a drink and people-watching on their outdoor patio in the summertime.
