Came by here early in the morning right at opening to get some work done before the day started. I decided I would treat myself to a nice coffee and breakfast while I was here.Parking: This Java House is in a small shopping center, so there was ample parking.Ambiance: I liked the ambiance of the place. Lots of wood, so it felt natural. There was ample lighting and plenty of seating with outlets for me to get some work done. There are signs that say 1 hour seating, but it was not busy that early and they did not enforce it at the time. I am not sure if they would enforce it if it ever got that busy.Food and drink: For coffee, I got the Mexican Chocolate Cold Brew with Sweet Cream. For food, I got the Spicy Southwest with chorizo and substituted the English muffin for croissant, which they were more than happy to do. Both came out in a timely manner. The Mexican Chocolate Cold Brew was delicious and refreshing, but it does have a spiced kick to it for those who are not into that. The Spicy Southwest was not too spicy though, so feel free to order it if it piques your interest. It was still warm, had a delicious sauce to it, and I had to consciously tell myself to eat it slowly or I would have scarfed it down otherwise.Service: Incredibly friendly staff. Made small talk with one of the baristas about the gaggle of geese that were right outside the window.A hundred percent would come back! I am craving the Spicy Southwest as I write this!

Always a hit. Their coffee is great and gets the job done caffeine-wise. The staff here are always friendly, kind, and understanding. This is the type of place where you can leave your laptop out while getting your coffee or going to the restroom and not having to worry about anything. Great pastries too!

Absolutely Love this place! They serve many coffee products & freshly made rolls, muffins, & much more. Personally, I love their Caramel Frappe with whipped topping & caramel drizzled over the cream. The atmosphere here is so neat with old brick walls behind the counters & alit of windows bring in the Natural light. The other side of the store serves breakfast sandwiches & they also have healthy choices forunch, dinner, or just a snack. I highly recommend this coffee house!!!

Java house-Heirloom used to be my favorite coffee house in Iowa City. Ive been a loyal customer for 7 years-- but I will not come here again. I got disappointed with services they provide as time goes by. I could tell they reduce the portion of the size and asking for more money. They are not used to like this in the past. The image I attached: cup of soup was $4.44. I mean I would be okay if the portion size was big enough to pay that amount of money. It used to be black color cup with bigger portion. Every friends of mine saying that theyre recently more focused on making money rather than providing good services. In addition, I used to use an java house application on my phone and sometimes they gave a promotion, but they no longer use application and changed the transaction system ridiculously. Im not a big fan of java house anymore. I would rather go to Starbucks these days. I was a big fan of java such a long time and it was a big disappointment! Shame on you! Please go back to basic java-heirloom!!

Another great Java House location. Very nice, comprehensive coffee shop. Very cute and tasteful design; some very distinctive pieces of furniture, like a cool rounded chair with decorative wood arms. 😉I got an oats n’ honey latte, which was good and different. Some staff very attentive. Others less so. Tiramisu is my fav dessert and there is a good variety to choose from. I prefer espresso drinks over the pourover coffee. Amazing! Great service, setting, and coffee. I had a caramel cream iced latte with almond milk and it exceeded my expectations. Getting almond milk is always a risk, but it was perfect. The latte had the perfect ratio of espresso, milk, and ice. When i go to starbucks i have to ask for light ice, but I didn’t here and it was the perfect amount. Even the cup was cool. if i could rate 6/5 I would.

Good food. Poor customer service. I came in on a lunch break at 10:30am and the worker told me two of their soups weren’t ready yet and would be ready by maybe 11(they opened at 10am). I witnessed several workers on their phones. When I went to order coffee after had telling the employee that I will need a little bit to order, she turns around and comes back to say “Are you ready yet” in a very rude tone. The workers weren’t friendly or helpful at all and they always act like they miserably hate their job. I’ve come in here for years and experience the same thing at the Mormon Trek location with extremely bad customer service. Definitely will not be coming back to this location. The 2 stars you have earned is from the great food, not the people. Sincerely, unhappy and disappointed ex-customer.

We always go to all the Java Houses and try them all depending on what side of town we are to support local business, but I was extremely extremely and extremely impressed with the excellent young man named William at the front of store greeting me with a very happy and genuine smile and taking my order. After asking him his name, I also found out that he is still at West High School, and I cannot tell you how amazed I was with his customer service skills. As a business owner, he was the absolute definition of who you want to be part of your team! I know he is still young, but at this time he delivered me something that I hardly and sadly don’t see much these days. Not only he needs a raise, he deserves to train others and even manage!!!! He has a very bright future and I encouraged him to study hard and succeed at what he loves to achieve! Oh yah, the white rasp mochas were also absolutely great! That was a drink I introduced to my wife 10 yrs ago on one of our first dates, and your stores are the only place that we can get this heavenly made drink!!! Thank you!

Excellent service, but the setup was a bit confused. Maranda was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and attentive to detail. The tea was fantastic, brewed perfectly, neither too lightly nor too strongly, and the steel-cut oats were exactly as delicious as steel-cut oats should be. We did have a tiny bit of confusion when it came to picking up our coffee, but that may have been due to our own newness to the system here. The coffee itself was very good, certainly worth the trip. It was flavorful, and strong without the bitterness or burnt flavors found in the other coffee shops coffees, which might require cream or sugar. Also, very pleasantly surprised to see almond milk and coconut milk as well as soy milk. Overall, very well done.

Been goin to Heirloom and Java for a few years now and I’m finally over it. If you want to spend extra money for things you’re not gonna get, have rude staff seem just annoyed at your presence, and essentially just waste your own time and money, then go get a salad at Heirloom. I promise you’ll be disappointed. I’ve also heard from staff that they’re treated incredibly poorly and are underpaid. Maybe that explains the bad attitude? The only redeeming factor here is that the coffee side can run decently smoothly and they do have some really good coffee.

Atmosphere was good. Coffee was good. But like everyone says, WiFi isnt working so I couldnt look up things when I was studying while finishing my coffee. Also, I was asked to pour my water from my water bottle to their own cup to drink water out of it, and was told that they usually encourage people to buy it but use the cup this time. I was never asked this kind of question, so I was very confused because usually even tho I dont have my own water bottle, coffee shops offer cup of water when I ask for it. Didnt know if that was always the case from the coffee shops, because I never was asked that from other locations Java house. I like Java house, but I wont go back to this one because all these inconveniences.
