This historic hotel located in downtown Austin is absolutely beautiful inside! The cafe was a cute spot to have a cafe style breakfast. Food was decent. I ordered the Lox Bagel, and it wasn’t everything I hoped for BUT the lox portion was generous. Definitely worth stopping in for a quick breakfast in a historic spot.

The drinks and food we very delicious, my sister and I enjoyed an Irish coffee an Horchata Loca and a Paris Texas Benedict along with a Texas Shaped pecan waffle with fruit on top and whipped cream. The lady at the register was very helpful when we went to pay and use the food credit we had with Hyatt, the lady Crista was very helpful in figuring out how to use the credit even though we werent current hotel guest and a line had started behind us, we offered to just pay but she said well figure this out and managed to use the credits for us! That was wonderful.

As another review previously mentioned, 20% tip is included without your approval. I have no issues with tipping 20,30,40% but that’s after I receive my food and service provided. To start with, you make a line to order at the bar. There’s no service/order at your table. I think the restaurant cut off people so they have the bartenders doing the job of servers or servers doing the job of bartenders. No servers either. Only saw one guy picking up plates and asking if we needed anything - once. The Aperol drink I got was horrible. It did look good but the taste was pretty bad. I had to drink it because the “server” was nowhere to be found. The huevos rancheros were DELICIOUS. Definitely ordering them next time. Portion was good, taste was amazing and looks were pretty good too!If it wasn’t for how good the huevos rancheros were, I would never go back. Service was horrible, ordering process one of the worse I’ve seen, tips not being optional is a theft.

Classy, beautiful, exquisite and an experience you will not forget. The food is wonderful and although I did not order my waffle the way it should have been done with fruit, it was still the best pecan peanut butter Texas shaped goodness I have ever had. By the time I got here, it was lunch time and seeing the food brought to other people was phenomenal. I highly recommend you stop here and see how professional the staff is along with the deliciously presented food.

Amazing food and friendly staff!! This quiche was magically delicious. Yes, magically! Want to know what was equally good? The almond croissant. Ah, heavenly goodness!! The servings were very generous - great value. I was full after eating half the quiche, but stuffed myself because I couldn’t bear to leave it on my plate. I would’ve liked a little dressing on the salad but it was a nice healthy addition to the quiche. Wait...the tomato jam. When I saw the description I thought “yuck” but it was surprisingly good and a nice pairing to the quiche.

The food was amazing and delicious, great portions. We stayed at the driskill and came for brunch around 11 and the wait was super long. You have to stay in line to order at the bar. You then get a number and need to find a table where someone beings yours order to you.The line didnt go by quick at all, service was slow and the place seemed severely understaffed. Great good though.

Food is decent, but upset about server behavior.Ended up paying 40% tip, gratuity is included but I didn’t know, it doesn’t say that on the bill. Server did not inform me. After I signed additional 20% on the bill the server accepted it with a smile.Payed 85$ for a 55$ meal.. should have done the math sooner. Tip by default should be illegal. To me this is the definition of theft, there for the 1 star review.

Swung by this place one morning for breakfast one morning. I heard it was pretty good, so I wanted to check it out on my last full day of my Austin trip. No reservations or anything like that. You just walk up to the counter, place your order, take a number, and find a seat. There were plenty of seats available on an early Saturday morning.I couldnt not order the Chicken + Waffles (texas shaped waffle, fried chicken, sunny-side up egg, yellowbird jalapeño hot sauce). Loved the cliche Texas-shaped waffle, and it was cooked very well. Crispy on the outside, fluffy and chewy on the inside. The fried chicken was a liiittle over, but the flavor in the breading was good. The gooiness of the egg and the hot sauce all added up to a good little meal.I also got my hands on the Paris Texas Benedict (two poached eggs, brie cheese, ham, croissant, hollandaise sauce, country potatoes). An eggs benny with the deep deep flavor of brie was just what I needed. So much unctuousness. Be warned, theres no relief here. Its Just indulgent. I didnt mind. And the country potatoes were made of three different potatoes, normal, purple, and sweet. That was a unique touch that really made this dish worth the order.Overall, I was a fan. Id love to stay at the Driskill one day and eat here again.

Food was good, croissant was delicious. They tack on an automatic 18% gratuity (I’m okay with this) but they don’t make this clear. They don’t provide an itemized receipt, just a receipt that shows the total with the automatic gratuity included (not shown separately/split out). When you sign the receipt they include yet another tip line so if you’re not paying attention you are tipping 40%+ for your meal. I feel like this is done intentionally to trick people. I am happy to tip (it is well deserved) but I don’t like feeling like I’m being tricked into tipping more.

This was one of the more disappointing brunch experiences Ive had in a while. There are so many great options in Austin and this was not one of them. The food was overpriced for what it was but thats to be expected at a hotel eatery downtown. The issue was the service. We chose a table outside that had yet to be bussed. We moved the dirty place and cups over and assumed someone would attend to it soon. When our food arrived, we asked the server if the mess could be cleaned up and he said hed send someone. Nothing. Then a busser literally came out onto the outside patio, looked out into the street for a while(?), and turned around to go back inside. We had two other servers clear the plates we were eating from but no one seemed to notice, comment, apologize for the dirty experience.

I had one job: find my tech challenged parents a brunch place in a new city within walking distance. “It would be nice if they had cinnamon rolls”. Not exactly a filter item. BUT I WON THE MORNING with 1886. Everything was perfect from the atmosphere, delicious food and amazing service despite the bustling scene. Reasonably priced for the experience. I ordered the Texas Migas and it was bad. Also ordered the waffle and chicken - waffle and maple syrup was great but the chicken was burnt. The biggest issue are the prices - a medium black coffee is $4 ( not a latte, just plain black drip coffee) AND they automatically add 18% gratuity to your order, which is nonsensical considering you literally take your own water to your table and no service is provided. Note to Management: atleast call it a “service” charge instead of gratuity so it’s not illegal - you’re welcome.
