May have been the best salad that I ever had. The carrot and cilantro soup was bright and flavorful. Line was long and they only had one cashier. Bit of a wait but once they start on your order it is quick. But I was there at peak lunchtime hours. Seems to be an independent, superior version of Panera. I plan on going back for dinnertime.

I really want to like Heirloom, I really do. It has all the makings of a cute cafe with really good food. They have big windows which let the natural light in and are connected to a coffee shop giving it homey vibes. It has a cute name and logo. They have sandwiches, salads, and soups and unique options at that. However, the food at Heirloom left me wanting more. More warmth, more satisfaction.I ordered the Turkey and Avocado sandwich which was cold. It was good but I felt like I could have easily made a comparable sandwich at home. There just wasnt anything that wowed me about the flavor. I also had the Heirloom chili which was good (not very bean-heavy) and I found myself dipping the sandwich in the chili to give it the extra something it needed.I also nibbled on my sisters Philly cheesesteak sandwich (needed a spicy element or the chili to dip into) and my moms custom salad (nothing special). I rarely get sandwiches out because they are almost always disappointing and this confirmed that.The most annoying part was that the people doing the chopped salads were making so much noise. We couldnt hear ourselves talk from across the restaurant. There has to be a quieter way for them to chop those salads.If I come back to Iowa city, I dont think Ill be coming back to Heirloom.

BBQ Chicken Ranch salad was delicious. Would really recommend it to anyone

To start off, the employees were GREAT. Its a very poorly run establishment. I pre-ordered on the website early in the morning for an afternoon pick up. I double-checked to make sure I put the correct time, especially since I requested a later time and the website says they dont open until 10. When I arrived, my order was nowhere to be found. The employees apologized saying that it was made at 7:30 a.m. They made my order quickly, were perfectly pleasant, and I was out the door. The food was good but overpriced. Other things I noticed were that some employees hair wasnt properly secured, their personal drinks were on the prep counters, as well as their phones. I dont blame the employees for the missteps. They legitimately probably didnt know what they were doing was wrong. If I could go back and give 100% of my money straight to the employees, I would. They deserve it more than the company does.--And to update, the owner of the company sought me out by email, attacking me and blaming the poor experience on me. Complete with my receipt, full name, and phone number.

Very, very slow service. With 4 employees working and the first one in line, I waited 15 minutes just to order. They fill online orders before helping those in-person. Would not recommend for this reason.

Slow service but friendly service. The food was OK at best. It was a little dirty but not horrible.

Very good. Ive lived in Stl, Chicago, and NYC and this cafe sandwich shop was probably better then anything I remember in either of these places.Fresh made soup and sandwiches with fresh ingredients..very impressed.Definitely expensive at 20 bucks for lunch but blows away a place like paneras.

Salad was very mediocre. I paid for a cookie and did not receive it. I requested extras on my salad that were not provided. Do not request the rolls as a side. They were not tasty at all.

Ordered a large salad, paid for a large salad, and got a small. The greens were clearly about 2 - 2.5 inches below the brim of the bowl.I also had to coach the gal mixing my Harvest Fruit and Nut Salad on which ingredients belonged in the bowl, as she forgot to include certain elements.

Loved it, great price and great food. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 was that everything is in to go containers! Extremely wasteful. Even my dine in salad in a plastic bowl had a lid on it! Serve your own water was in plastic cups. Plastic silverware. Please consider reusable!

First time here, visiting from out of town. I really enjoyed it. Parking was an issue but enjoyed the walking weather. Service seemed quick even though it was busy. There’s a really pleasant and relaxing coffee place attached to it. I will definitely be back again!

Amazing salads! Also, I received incorrect change and I went back the next day and they gave me the correct change and a free salad! A++ 10/10 would recommend.

Only order if you have an hour of time to wait. Ive never gotten food in a reasonable amount of time. The sandwiches would be healthy if they werent covered in so much grease that it gets all over your hands. Staff has forgotten to make my meal on 2 separate occasions, one time taking an hour and 10 minutes to make a sandwich, which wasnt the one I ordered. Great location, great concept, but it doesnt live up to the hype.

My Salad was good, but the employees were not very familiar with the ingredients. Cashier had trouble ringing me up, and I was charged for items I did not get. My drink from the cooler was warm. They employ a no laptop rule which I didnt realize until after I ordered. I used my laptop anyway. Good model but missed my expectations this trip.

Fast, made to order and delicious. The sales are always crisp and chopped at request. Lots of bang for your buck.

Went there on a Saturday night, the guy making the salad did not listen to the orders at all, we had 3 salad orders and not a single one was given to us as ordered:-they were not chopped as asked-the individual made a meal of parmasean with a side of salad-dressing was asked as a side and he put it into the salad-we ordered 2 large salads and a small and received 3 large salads for the price of 3 largesWe had really liked Heirloom in the past but this was a very depressing visit, all 3 of us left angry and with a lost appetite for the salads. It’s unfortunate to have staff like this, maybe he was having a bad day or something, but in the end it was a less than desirable experience.

I love their soups and salads!! New Jersey Tomato is the best! I only go there every once in a while but, every time I am always happy with the results :)

This place seems like a great idea for Iowa City but over priced and poorly run. I tried to do the online ordering but the system would not accept the order, so I called the store. No one picked up the first two times I called and finally someone answered and was not very friendly. I was quoted a time of 30 min (For a salad and sandwich, Seriously?) and then when I went to pick it up, the salad was MUCH smaller than the other two times I have gotten it and there was a $5 price difference from the online order and when I went to pick it up. WILL NEVER RETURN. Save your money and your patience

Great place to grab some healthy, tasty food and hang out! Great salad customization options, all the veggies are quite fresh. Only inconvenience is that salads and sandwiches are ordered at different counters

Ive had Heirloom a couple of times. Their sandwiches are delicious and inventive. I havent tried anything else yet but I heard the soups are pretty awesome.

Their Broccoli & Cheese Soup is wonderfully creamy and the broccoli is fresh, as it crunches. Wink when you ask for a senior discount, and tell them the old guy sent you. I recommend the Turkey & Avocado half & half special.

Really good breakfast sandwiches. Like the combo with the Java house next door. Strange policy about no laptops, but sat in the cafe instead to attend a quick online meeting.

I think this is my favorite place for sandwiches in Iowa City. I also love all their soup and salad options. The customer service is great and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone in Iowa City.

I was kicked out while waiting for a friend to buy salads because I had a starbucks drink in my hand. The worker said My manager got mad at me for letting you sit here saying since it was outside food and java was the neighbor, so I had to leave. I was waiting for maybe 5 minutes and I was not going to stay and study all I wanted was to buy a salad and leave. I felt disrespected and undervalued as a customer.

The salads at Heirloom are great! They can be a tad bit pricey but you wont find another place like this in downtown IC.
