NGL, I went here because of the Karen Kilgariff song. Much smaller than I imagined, and the staff was really nice and easygoing. Cool little historic spot.

Teeny tiny vintage guitar shop with their local regulars and friendly service. Right smack on the ground floor of the legendary Chelsea hotel. Its like walking into the 60s.

Awesome dudes, they’re not trying to sell you stuff you don’t need, they’d much rather share their passion and knowledge. Too rare these days. Thanks for the time and attitude!

A great small, local, guitar shop with a wonderfully varied selection of vintage electric and acoustic instruments, and some amplification. Prices range from surprisingly affordable for gig-appropriate player instruments, to what you might expect to pay for the rare, truly collectable, stuff. The staff are helpful, but dont push you to purchase. They also have a few new guitars available that were priced surprisingly well for their quality and playability. All the guitars are expertly set up by hand at the shop and are ready to show you what that vintage vibe is all about.

The staff was SUPER friendly and made me feel at home. I’ll be back for a bass soon, but for my first visit I only left with a shirt. It’s nice being in a place that doesn’t carry garbage instruments like Guitar Center does.

I love going into this place. I moved to the city a few years ago and needed a place to take my guitars and given the proximity to the Chelsea Hotel and all the stories that surround it I had to make Chelsea Guitars my place for instrument repair. Ive brought my bass and guitars in for setups. Both had a turnaround time of less that a week and the prices were very reasonable. Not to mention the guys doing the work are very knowledgeable and open to discussion about what was wrong. This will definitely be my guitar shop for the time I live here.

Wasnt sure why theres such a wide variance in ratings. Personally, my experience has been fantastic. I went in to get a guitar tuned up, and without any additional charge of a standard tuneup, they noticed my bridge was starting to pull off and repaired it. All this in a super fast turnaround and friendly service. Now that all the quirky stores have all but disappeared, taken over by sterile big stores where the staff has no clue about music, this place makes me smile.

Sweet little guitar shop right beside the Chelsea Hotel in NYC. These guys did a setup for me that was the best Ive had on my (unfortunately not vintage) Martin. While there, I looked at their vintage guitars, and they were all awesome. Its nice to see a privately owned guitar shop instead of a humongous, and not very personal Guitar Center. Dont get me wrong I love Guitar Center, but the personal service and talking to the guy who was actually going to work on my guitar was great. Thank You guys!

Im not saying I disliked the place necessarily, but I will stand firmly behind the feeling that these guys cared nothing about selling anything whatsoever. Like, I went there to get some expertise and advice, and to potentially acquire a nice vintage guitar, but they were way more concerned with eating lunch and haggling with another customer.

Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about guitars. Amazing shop to do repairs. My Taylor was nearly in pieces and Chelsea Guitars rebuilt it to be (really) better than new. Love this place.

My son broke his guitar string on the day of his school concert. I walked into the store and the tech was there, so they happily changed the string and they only charged me $1!!! They told me that this is what community is about! I have used them before to have my kids guitars set up, but this was above and beyond. I was able to bring the guitar back to school in 5 minutes. They are so knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

This is the best Guitar Store. I’ve never written a review before, however, I’m compelled to do so for a couple of reasons.1. NYC Time Machine experience. There should be a secret portal thru the back door that takes you to 19822. Amazing people working there who are truly passionate about guitars. They know their stuff.Only downside is that I’ll probably have to buy all my future guitars from these guys. Haha

Ok, the guys a skilled salesman. that can be a good or bad thing, but he was nice to my mom (which was shrewd of him), so Im inclined to rate him highly. Its a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Only reason I didnt get an axe here was because they didnt have what I was looking for (an inexpensive tele). Though they had some really beautiful guitars. Definitely worth a look. Especially if youve got the money and know your what youre doing (which I didnt, and probably dont).

One of the worst experiences ever in buying a product of any kind.they sold me a messed up instrument. they wouldnt give me my money back and they wouldnt let me return the instrument for a warranty replacement. They kept giving me the run around. there was allot of stress and getting treated like crap.I called the instrument maker and they immediately sent a pre paid package to return my instrument for a warranty replacement. I had brought the instrument to a legit guitar repair place. they told me i wasnt crazy and helped me get the warranty replacement. they did it for no financial gain. They had to take care of Dans irresponsible and nearly fraudulent behavior. All this took a few weeks. I got so much bull crap from these guys..even some physical intimidation. They must be going out of business or something. I know they had to move to a shoe box sized place and upon looking around at the instruments they had, the stock was filled out with obviously broken instruments. I dont know how they are still there.GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! its not worth it, theres no accountability..let alone respect.
