The only reason I am giving 5 stars is because I cant give more! Matthews Towing is outstanding! My car was making a high pitched screech when I would start it up. I made the mistake of going to another mechanic who misdiagnosed the issue, saying the steering pump needed to be replaced. Over $600 later the issue still wasnt fixed and I took it back to the other mechanic and they misdiagnosed the issue again saying it was the rack & pinion and it would be another $1,100 to fix it. I took the car to Matthews Towing this morning (on a Saturday) for a second opinion and Bruce called me an hour later and said all that needed to be replaced was the water pump belt and the total cost was $67. HOLY WOW!!! I cant even begin to tell you what a difference it makes to go to a mechanic who knows what he is doing and gets the job done quickly! My car now drives like it is new! I literally feel like I won the lottery with this place! Matthews Towing has my business from here on out! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great company. They are professional and tow pretty quick. Can be hard to get a tow on the weekend but hey thats par for the course with a lot of towing places so you cant hold that against them!

I use Verizon Roadside and they called this towing company to tow my husbands vehicle. I had a great experience and Frederuck the driver was so professional and very friendly. He was great! Very fast and accurate with no issues with the tow. So thankful they sent Frederick to do this and will use them for my towing needs again. I will definitely request Frederick if he is available. 7/22/2021 @ 7:45pm, A driver from Matthews towing decided it was okay to almost rear end me then tailgate me to an intersection. After we both come to a stop next to each other the driver then proceeds to brandish a handgun at my gf and I. The owner will not call me back to handle things professionally. I wouldnt use or recommend this company to anyone looking for a tow.

I’ve been having my vehicles serviced here for about 2 years now. I always thought they overcharged but didn’t say too much. My last 2 visits have been ridiculously priced. For one charge I was charged $40 for a refill of radiator fluid another was a $25 gas cap. I’ve spent thousands of dollars with them. Unfortunately, they’ve lost all my business. I won’t be back.

Pls dont use this company, they took 4 hours to show up after giving me a 90 min eta, then proceeded to tell me i cant ride with the driver when he finally showed up. then the dispatcher cancelled it after i got upset with her giving me a 45 min eta while he was standing infront of me!worst customer service if i could give negative stars i would. oh and she didnt cancel it just left it open so i couldnt open another emergency tow service.

AAA dispatched Matthews Towing for me. My work van broke down. As soon as the guy arrived I asked him if he needs anything from he and he said just keys so I left. 30 minutes later someone from the office called me and told that I have to pay $400 in order to deliver my van to my mechanic. It’s a highway robbery in a brought daylight. AAA needs to rethink who they’re using for their towing. Matthews Towing it’s a worse company in the Charlotte area.

I’ve been waiting for hours.Originally it was Midnight. After my ETA was an hour. It’s after 3am and I have to work today, At 7am worst towing company I’ve ever encountered. My wife reminded me of there service a couple of years ago. I had forgotten. I bet I’ll never forget again. I called the service and the dispatcher said she would check on the driver about an hour ago. And she still hasn’t called me back. I’m gonna cancel my insurance company for even allowing this poor service providing company to be a vendor. Also I called my insurance company Auto Direct. And I was told the driver would be here in 20 minutes Guess what still No Show 30 minutes later. Then the driver calls asking me where was I located after the insurance company initially used the phone locator. Using longitude and latitude. My van broke down on Pineville-Mathews rd. Since we have AAA plus they contacted Mathews towing to get my car home. From start to finish it was a little over an hour. Randy was the tow truck driver. I found him courteous and friendly. His truck was clean and neat (it was a 2020 model). As I do all my own auto repairs i just needed it towed home. No push from him to upsell or take to his shop. Once AAA contacted them for the tow I received a text about the approx. time of arrival. I also received a phone call from Randy telling me where he was and about how long to arrive. Due to the difficult Charlotte traffic condition I felt informed and understood he was doing his best to get to me. Very pleased and i hope I dont break down again but if I do Ill be sure to request them from AAA.

Our alternator stopped working, which led to the battery failing, and the car breaking down. Randy not only met us for a tow in less than 45 minutes from our call, but went out of his way to test the battery and alternator for us, before towing our car to our shop of choice. He was very kind to me and my wife, and so careful as he loaded and unloaded our car. Excellent experience! If you need a tow, call this company, and ask for Randy.

My lock cylinder was broken (my key won’t work) called at 7pm waited till 1230pm when driver showed up he refused service because the key wouldn’t work( the reason I needed a tow!!!) these people are useless and incompetent

Dead alternator and Reggie came out from Matthews Towing & Automotive. It was 7am in the morning and feeezing outside. Reggie was a nice guy and very helpful. He walked up with a smile on his face and helped me get my car towed. He was quick and efficient and assured me my vehicle was in good hands. I can’t say thank you enough to Reggie for giving legendary customer service. You don’t see that a lot these days and I am VERY appreciative. Thank You Reggie!

I tried to book a tow and they told me they couldnt get my car .

Allstate hired Matthews Towing to pick up my disabled car. They stood me up, and when I called them back they said the truck wouldnt be there for another 45-60 min. I told them thats fine but the truck really needs to show up this time because the accident site isnt near where I live. The woman on the phone kept saying I cant guarantee an exact time, to which I replied thats not what Im asking for. I hung up. Waited an hour. They cancelled my appt. to spite me.Fast forward 3 hours, Allstate called them to reschedule and Matthews asked that I call them directly to schedule. I did, and they told me they had no knowledge of my car. You know, the one they already had scheduled to pick up and they were talking to Allstate about. Theyre clearly messing with me to get back at me for hanging up on them.

AAA dispatched Matthews Towing for my husband who was at a gas station on his motorcycle with a dead battery 1 mile from our house. He was told by the AAA dispatch that a motorcycle was not covered on our policy and the costs would be out of pocket. AAA was upfront and clear about this and told him while on the phone they can dispatch and the company would give him the price when they called back to confirm. A woman called from Matthews Towing and said it would be $85 and then as the tow truck arrived she called back and said he was there and it would actually be $150. So when a customer is desperate and seems like their options are limited and you can solve it immediately regardless of the price youve already quoted they ALMOST DOUBLED it onsite. This is price gouging and shameful!

Stranded around 1:00 in the morning needed to use my AAA. AAA dispatch Matthews towing. An hour passes with no phone call. Call AAA back they notify me that Matthews towing is on the way and is 10 minutes out. 40 minutes later still no tow driver.. AAA calls me back and tells me that Matthews towing has turned down the call because its outside of their area. Well somebodys not telling the truth because they were 10 minutes out and now all of a sudden its not their area. Very dissatisfied and irritated at 1:30 in the morning.

Used to work for this establishment. Equipment was deplorable and in poor shape. Broken windshields, torn seats with springs sticking through...If I had to give a customer a ride in the tow truck, I found myself apologizing profusely for the shape of the truck, the grease stained seats, and more times than not, the excessive wait time for me to get to the customers location.It was common practice to have 4, 5, and even 6 tow calls stacked on my tablet waiting to be answered.This is unacceptable for motorists who not only pay for timely, roadside service, but who are often stranded on the roadside in all kinds of weather including excessive heat, rain, and even cold.AAA should pull their affiliation with this establishment post haste. This company is no asset to AAA.

Our insurance company dispatched this company to tow our vehicle. Upon arrival to the destination of the car, the driver called us and stated he couldn’t find the car. He came across our car and stated that he needed the keys. We advised him that we were approximately 5 minutes away and that we can provide the keys. We arrived between 7-10 minutes later and the driver was pulling out of the parking lot. I signaled to speak with him and asked him was he leaving and he stated yes and that he couldn’t wait any longer and pulled off. He never provided a courtesy call to inform us that he was leaving. If we didn’t see him leaving we would have never known.Lack of courtesy and patience will kill any business. Poor service and lack of empathy. We’re definitely spreading the word about this.

Front desk people are horrible.

This is the worst tow company in NC they told me that AAA didnt cover my tow which was a lie they then had me sit outside for hours while i searched for an alternate tow meanwhile they realized the error called back asking if i still needed a tow which i did not i had to pay 80 for a tow. Very dishonest ... Charged me for a tow twice..And wouldnt do a refund ..Told me to call the bank...Uggg... 45 minutes later. Still on hold with my bank... The tow driver was nice..But ...Never give these guys your card number....Bank saw the double charge too...I spent an hour and a half on hold because yall cant work your computer...Ill be sure to tell as many people as I can...until you guys do right by me..

I needed one of my cars towed and since I’m AAA member, I called them first. AAA dispatched Matthews Towing and within 45 minutes they were there. I’m impressed because it was rush hour and I was on the opposite end of Charlotte. A nice gentlemen tried to jump the car and though they didn’t work he was able to tow my car to my requested destination. It was a professional, quick experience and I appreciate the help.

Dont know much about Matthews towing and Auto, I only went there to talk with them.

Had my insurance dispatch the call at 5:00. Said that they wouldn’t be able to pick up the car until 7:52. That was okay because I know with Covid 19, things are a little delayed. However, we had to call the store multiple times just to get an answer. Finally got an answer at 9:00.Then, we were told that they didn’t have the ticket (even though my insurance company had a confirmation number) & that it would be an extra two hours before they could pick it up. Very disappointed and upset.

My car and as towed there and I asked them to determine cost to repair. I agreed to pay the diagnostic fee, but they assessed and informed me that the cost of repair was much more than the car was worth. They didnt even charge for the diagnostic.Honest people. A true rarity. Thank you.

The driver shows up an hour late with no apology. First words out his mouth were its too hot and I am tired. Looks where my car is and says yeah too much work for me so Im not going to do it and said I dont care if you report me.

Needed car towed from W.T. Harris to Monroe and AAA sent MT&A. We waited about 1 1/2 hr - no big deal since it was mid day Saturday. Reggie showed up with a smile on his face and partner (sorry, I can’t recall his name) was super friendly. Both men were very polite and professional to my dad and me. If all drivers are like these two, I would recommend them to everyone.

I took my car for doing the inspection and the mechanic told me the car needed some issues to be fixed in order to pass the inspection, he gave me a price for doing two different repairs and when I picked the car up there was one of the processes undone, I paid an excessive price for one thing and the car issue was still uncompleted and the only explanation the mechanic gave me was that it was a misunderstood. The worst service I have received in my life. its amazing that they can cheat you like this and keep your money.

My Honda broke down yesterday evening. I had to have it towed. The tow truck driver was very nice and very professional.I had him tow it to their automotive shop. They had the alternator replaced and me back on the road in quick time. These guys are honest, reasonably priced, and always get the work done as promised. If there is a delay, they call. If they cant figure out the problem, they dont pretend to know it. And the things they fix stay fixed!

I was assigned this company by AAA- no shot I ever get them again. I called at 5 saying theyd get my car by 625 (okay cool) then I get a call at 545 saying it would be an hour til they got my car (still cool). Then I did not get calls about it being moved from 645 to 715 (I had to call AAA to find out) and around 720 I call again (I had to get my car 20 min away by 8) and the AAA lady tells me 825.Meanwhile I called the co only to be put on hold for 5 minutes at a time. Dont spend a cent here.

You know every now and again you come across that 1 mechanic thats just plain honest - thats Tom, Jeremy and all the guys at Matthews towing. When you go in ask for either one and while you may not like what you here you can guarantee thats its honest. No frills, no nonsense. Just great workmanship at affordable rates. I did not have a good experience here. I felt like more problems were created each time I took my car in. To me it seems fishy that I would have to keep paying money for things that were unnecessary to pay for and obviously not fixed correctly. I also found The Man In Charge to be argumentative and unsympathetic so I do not trust. I am happy to say that I found a mechanic that I do trust closer to my home and I will be using them no matter what from now on. My trusted mechanic told me that I was charged unnecessarily for things when the belt could have been cleaned and dried out rather than having to replace them and end up paying over $300 to these people with the problem to just return two weeks later now I have to pay another good amount of money to have the problem fixed properly with my mechanic which I am happy to do but I feel that I wasted my money and Im not happy about that. Lesson learned. After they kept my car overnight I had to then get it towed back in the next day because all of a sudden its not starting up for me which was not a problem before bringing it in there. I then had to pay $90 for an alternator connector and then all of a sudden have to get a new battery so this car has cost me unnecessarily close to $500 this month using Matthews Towing and Automotive. I do not recommend if you like to save your money and have your car work done properly and the problem properly diagnosed and fixed. I have gotten two 2nd opinions who diagnose my problem the same way which was not the way that Matthews Towing and Automotive handled it so I question their competence as mechanics and consider them to be money grubbing thieves. The point is they could not properly diagnose my problem so they tried to find something else and charge me for it. And then all of a sudden I have more issues leaving there and have to be towed again. To me that is just bad business and of course they did not rectify the problem by helping me and listening to me and giving me some money back because they obviously just wanted to take it in the first place. Not cool. Man In Charge denies all accountability. Be careful.

Great local auto shop. They dont try to rake you over the coals and have always performed quality work on my cars. I trust them over the larger repair companies and have been taking my cars there for years.

Called to report one of their drivers for reckless driving and the dispatcher was defensive and immediately began to tell me what the LAW is when yellow lights are flashing on the truck and did not listen to the entire incident. I found out quickly that common sense no longer exists and she displayed that very well. Note to her: I do not care what lights the driver has on you DO NOT backup from the top of an exit ramp to the bottom because you missed your pickup. Take a couple of extra minutes and LEGALLY circle back around so you do not add a DEATH, due to an illegal action, to an inoperable vehicle.

I had a tire go down on I77. I called AAA and they said that it could take up to 2 hours. Matthews Towing showed up about 35 minutes later. The office had called to let me know the drivers name and that he was on his way. Allen the tow truck driver was very professional and even made sure that my car would not get scratched as he put it on the flatbed. Great service and would highly recommend.

My family has taken all of their vehicles here for 20 yrs. They are a small business but highly knowledgeable and fair. I always know my car is fixed properly when I leave. Never had any problems.

I called USAA to set up a tow. Their service set me up with Matthews Towing and I was given an ETA of an hour. No problem, that’s a reasonable amount of time since I broke down in the middle of nowhere. I waited a good 15 minutes past the ETA before calling to find out how much longer it would be. They informed me that they had just received the request and it would be another 2 hours before they could get to me. She said there was a lot going on and they were backed up. What I was finally able to find out was they were 2 people short and were trying to play it off to not lose a job. I understand they’re trying to make a living, but not at the expense of me sitting with my vehicle in 90 degree heat. I understand things happen, but the right thing would have been to contact me and let me know how long it was gonna be from the beginning. I could’ve either arranged for another company to come get me or left my vehicle and gotten a ride to a more comfortable location to wait over 3 hours until they could get here. Well it’s not 90 degrees anymore but now I’m having to deal with mosquitos, but fortunately another company is coming and they will be arriving an hour sooner even though they got the request almost an hour and a half later than this company.

This place is by far the most unprofessional place you can use, I don’t even want to start about how rude and disrespectful the lady that works in the office is. I would stay far away from this company.

Absolutely loved my experience. Marlon was the nicest, kindest and well mannered person I have met in a while. Came with smiles on his face and made me laugh even though I was annoyed that my Dodge Charger had just broke down. Not to mention he was there so quick. Felt like I wasnt waiting long at all. Worst repair shop I have ever visited. I had to have my alternator changed on a Saturday they rushed to do the job after my car was supposedly finished I went to pick it up double check under the hood of my car so they left at least four connections undone had to reconnect them myself. What did I pay those guys for? If I would have drove off without looking under my hood more problems would have came to my car honestly

WONDERFUL SERVICE: my Prius was stuck in the mud and, when the tow truck arrived, the driver determined that he couldnt get the truck to my car without getting stuck himself. So he manually pushed and shoved and, after getting stuck several more times and continually rocking the car forward and back, he was able to get me out. Such a pleasant, cheerful and STRONG young man. All of this without complaint, at rush hour in Charlotte and facing a long trip back to Matthews. Thank you.

HORRIBLE.....if I could give them a negative I would called to get my car towed ended up with more damage then I had...Driver dropped my car called the owner he not professional at all to run a business he talking about he not fixing anything... Dont know too much about the towing side of their business, but I have been sending my cars for repairs to MTA for many a year. Tom and Jeremy are tops in their field. Very honest. They have fixed many small things for me for a nominal fee or free of charge. They are REALLY GREAT folks indeed! I will be a lifer with them.

Matthews Towing recently responded to my AAA call for roadside assistance. I was very impressed with the professional and courteous assistance I received, even though the repair I needed went beyond what can be repaired roadside and it had to be towed for service. Unfortunately, I had it towed to AAA Car Care because I didnt know any better. So, basically $500 later, I realized I should have had it towed right back to where the tow truck came from- Matthews Towing & Automotive. I havent called yet to check their hourly labor rates, but Im guessing they are less than $200 per hour! Lesson learned! Local businesses are better than chains!

Absolutely abysmal service from a company that calls itself professionals! Please be advised that signing their “waiver” in no way means oh there may be some minimal scuffs to your wheels, etc. It will let them smash any part of your car they please and claim oh “we did the best we could.” afterwards. Not to mention their predatory tow fees where a routine tow suddenly “required extra work” so they can depart from the set rates and charge whatever they please! But hey it’s a free market so your free to decline their services if you don’t like the terms, it’s not like your stranded in a bad way or anything. A shame this company calls themselves professionals and shame on AAA for having them as an authorized provider.

I was at Harris Teeter on East Blvd. An employee of Matthews towing was charging a dead battery for another customer in the parking lot. It was the end of an isle, he was parked approx three feet from the car and blocking my exit. Busy parking lot, no where to turn around and I did not feel comfortable driving my car in reverse up an entire isle. I asked him to move, he told me he was doing a job. He would have only had to move approx 12 inches to allow me to exit. He refused. Then to just a wee bit annoying, after he removed the jumper cables and closed the hood on the other car, he engaged the gentleman in conversation instead of moving to allow me to leave. I called the business. The woman was less than helpful. Sad,sorry way to ever try to build a customer base. The effort it would have taken to move his truck, which had a running engine, would have been minimal.

We called AAA yesterday when we were in Charlotte visiting family. They sent Tm of Matthews Towing. We explained that we werent from Charlotte and didnt know any mechanics nearby, so we didnt really know what to do. Tim looked under the hood, diagnosed the problem, and brought us to Matthews Towing, after consulting this plan with us and coming up with an estimate for the repairs from Tom. Tom repaired the car very quickly, and we were soon on our way to the next destination. The total amount of time from when we called AAA to when the car was repaired was about 1.5 hours, certainly shorter than we usually see at home! We definitely recommend Matthews Towing for anyone that needs a tow or a repair in the Charlotte and Matthews areas.

Ive been going to Matthews Auto since I was in high school and have consistently gone back due to exceptional service by the office and the mechanics. They are very reliable and have always been honest about every question I have had.

Its a new company and the driver was very polite. The company just needs to buy four door trucks.

1 AM. Hit a deer on the way to work. Called MT&A and the driver quoted me 30 minutes. He was there in 15 minutes. He even bent the bumper off my tire so I could drive the vehicle myself to the bodyshop the next morning.This was the second time Ive used them and have been pleased.

Despite the negative reviews this company has received, I had a positive experience with Matthews Towing and Automotive. After stalling out on I-77 N in Charlotte, I called AAA who called MT&A. The assigned operator was courteous, and conscious about safety and my vehicle. He was driving Truck D, and it was May 7 2016.

This car shop is not honest or fair. i took my car there to have my a/c serviced and it took them 3 days to get it done right after complaining and putting me on the back burner to keep collecting money. i also had them read my engine light and they tried to charge me $115 for doing so when everyone does it for free. go to get one thing fixed and they will keep you coming back because they mess with other parts to make sure you will come back to get it fixed Tom Emch is the owner he makes way to many mistakes to call himself that(I HAD TOM HIMSELF CHANGE AN ALTERNATOR ON MY CAR, SINCE HE IS OFF ON SUNDAYS HE DID A RUSH JOB ON SAT. AND MADE CARELESS MISTAKES, HE DIDNT EVEN HOOK MY AIR INTAKE BACK UP OR MY CONNECTIONS BUT IT WAS LABELED AT WORK FINISHED.. ALWAYS CHECK UNDER THE HODD OR ANYTHING AFTER THEY TOUCH YOUR CAR . NOT TO MENTION HOW HE WORKS HIS EMPLOYEES THAT DRIVE 12HRS A DAY ON THE ROAD FOR HIM. HIS DRIVERS ARE WORKED 12HRS A DAY WITH NO ESTABLISHED BREAK TIMES. HIS MECHANICS ARE WORKED 12HRS A DAYS AS WELL BUT THE HAVE ESTABLISHED BREAKS FORM 12-1... AFTER SPEAKING TO SOME EMPLOYEES YOU ARE BASICALLY TO WORK 12HRS NO ESTABLISHED BREAK OR YOU WILL GET FIRED, THEY ARE ALSO MADE TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN DAMAGES IF THEY HAPPEN TO MESS SOMETHING UP TOM HAS INSURANCE THAT COVERS THIS BUT HE BLACKMAILS HIS EMPLOYEES TO PAY FOR THEIR DAMAGES IN ORDER TO KEEP HIS RATES LOW AND TO STAY EMPLOYED. BE AWARE.

The staff was courteous. The mechanic did a very good and in a timely manner. They answered all the questions that I had about my car.

THE TOWING SIDE IS AWFUL!!! I CALLED AAA FOR A TOW DUE TO A FLAT TIRE. THE DRIVER CAME OUT, INSPECTED VEHICLE FOR SCRATCHES AND ASKED ME TO SIGN THE FORM. ONCE THE FORM WAS SIGNED, HE STATED THAT HE NEEDED 4 MORE SIGNATURES. I ADVISED HIM THAT IVE NEVER GAVE 5 SIGNATURES FOR A TOW, JUST ONE. THE DRIVER THEN, TRIED TO DECEIVE ME BY TELLING ME BY SIGNING ONE OF THE FORMS THAT I THE TOW CO. WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO MY CAR WHILE IN THEIR CARE. BUT, THE FORM STATED WAIVER..I THEN QUESTION HIS STATEMENT AND HE THREW THE PAPER AT ME AND TOLD ME TO READ IT!! ONCE I READ, I ADVISED HIM THAT I WOULD NIT BE SIGNING ANYTHING ELSE AND THAT HE TRIED TO DECEIVE ME. THE PAPER ACTUALLY STATED THAT IF THE DRIVER DAMAGES THE VEHICLE THAT MATTHEWS TOWING WOULD NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES. I CALLED AAA AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND WHEN I TRIED TO REPORT IT TO THE COMPANY, THE WOMAN PUT ME ON HOLD WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST AND WOULD NOT ASSIST ME. THE SO CALLED OWNER TOM THEN CAME TO THE PHONE AND DID NOT HELP. AAA NEEDS TO FIND A MORE RELIABLE COMPANY TO TOW FOR THEM!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

2 flat tires & 2 tows over the years. I have an old truck (66 Ford pickup) that from time to time needs a little help. MTA has always been prompt., friendly & helpful. If they can do work on older vehicles, thinking about trying their repair service; hard to find mechanics who work on older models.

Editing my previous review from 5 stars to 1. Its seems like they have new staff and mechanics. Or maybe Ive never seen the mechanic that I dealt with. Ive been a customer for over a year bringing my car here but I wont anymore. He tried to convince me I had some major issue when in reality the post on my battery was just loose. Luckily I know my car and know when its actually more serious. I dont really feel like i can trust going here anymore. That was my last visit .

Had Allstate motor club call them and they accepted the tow at 12:08. Estimated time of arrival was 1:18 waited to 1:30 to call them and when I did they told me there was no way they were going to make it to me. They didnt even respect me enough to call me around 1:00 and apologize for not being able to. If you accept a job you are suppose to follow through and treat the customer first. Obviously they dont know how to run a business. That is why they are getting a one star from me.

Never used their service but wouldnt be interested just by how ridiculous the tow truck drivers drive. I was going on I-85 N yesterday and I had one of the drivers from this company tailgating me and almost ran me off the highway. Also, he was cutting other drivers off and almost hit a car. What kind of people you have driving? Then I call their office to speak with one and the lady who answered didnt even want to hear my out and said YOU NEED TO CALL ANOTHER TIME and was extremely rude.

Waited for 2 hrs and 40 minutes for them to arrive and tow our car. Unacceptable.

Matthews Towing really stepped up. I was so scared by myself on the road. They came really quick.
