I like some of their pastries. Unfortunately, they run low fast. You have to get there early for any selection. I leave without buying anything fairly often because they dont have anything I like. Their coffee is good but Im not a fan of the slow pour over method. It would be nice if they offered more Fair Trade coffee. Like that its locally owned.

Service was pretty slow; we had ordered food and drinks and about the time we were finished with food and ready to leave is when we got our drinks. My recommendation is that unless you plan to sit for an extended amount of time, that you order your drinks to go. Drinks were amazing, its clean and has a lot of seating. Their Mocha is to die for. Yes, its that good.

Didnt actually order anything, just went to get a gift card for someone else who has had the coffee before. The inside was more spacious than I thought it would be, with lots of tables and chairs. The people were friendly and efficient. The people I know who have come here before love the coffee.

First time there and was clean and nice greeting from staff who took order. Slow on delivery of our coffee but not in a hurry so no problem. Nice array of gift selections.

I have only had good experiences with the staff at Java House, but it is a bit of a known secret in the area that the owners are horrible people. After a worker shared some aspects of their poor working conditions on social media the owners decided it would be a good idea to send out an email to customers stating that workers who post on social media and say negative things will be fired. Imagine being proud of being a bad boss! Take your money elsewhere to places where the employers understand good customer service and how to treat their staff.

Love this location! The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is quiet, spacious and cozy. Not too busy with students doing homework like at other coffee shops. A nice place to relax and enjoy your favorite coffe/tea drink with your spouse or friends.

This Java House has a calm environment with low lighting. There is definitely overall less traffic than the downtown Java House, but you get the same aesthetic and delicious beverages and treats. Would recommend for the college student who would appreciate this atmosphere.

The place seems infinitely better since Angela Winniki left. Just my personal opinion. But probably one of the best things to happen to java house in awhile. Coffee was great. Service was exceptional. It has earned 5 stars once again

They have the best Iced Caramel Coffee and Macchiatos.

One day I came in and sat down to do some work. Didn’t feel like drinking a coffee. I just wanted to get some work done. I wasn’t making noise or bothering anybody. And then, some worker came up to me and said, “if you want to use this space, you have to buy something or leave.” I got up and left because it is ridiculous that you have to buy something to use their table and do some work. It wasn’t even busy. Won’t be coming back here in a long time.

This is worth the stop! I just got a black iced coffee and it wasnt bitter, just a great cup of coffee. I cant wait to try more! Thanks for working hard!One recommendation I have is to take names when you get busier because it was a bit confusing to find my order after it was made.

Java house is one of my favorite coffee shops in Iowa City area. They have a good selection of high quality tea, a great breakfast tea, and excellent pastries. Cozy atmosphere for meeting friends.

Everything is great, I recommend the lemon poppyseed muffin- anyway, I tried their lavender drink... that was nasty. Don’t drink that drink. Literally everything else on the menu is fine tho

Fair pricing for a good quality fresh pour over coffee. Fast friendly service, baristas are knowledgeable and enjoy offering help to the first time customers in making decisions. The vibe is very calm and relaxed, great place to sit and unwind.

I love this Java House. The atmosphere is nice. It is a good place to work, study or meet up with friends. The food is pretty good but, the coffee is what does it for me. I love the specialty coffee drinks. The service is really good most of the time. I have had a couple of bad service experiences but, those are rare.

Great coffee, decent selection of pastries. Moody, surly environment - an echo chamber for fidgety progressives and socially inept students. Free lemons with water in them, but if you ask for a lime youll be beaten within an inch of your life. One of the newer hires (as of summer 2019) mysteriously manages to brew in 2.5 minutes what takes 6-7 minutes when anyone else is on the register. Ancient Chinese secret? Japanese ingenuity? Korean magic? Faux-racist meta-commentary? ACT lifers perform kabuki dumbshow here once a month, which youll never get at Starbucks...

Great place to hang out with friends to chat and catch up. There is enough parking (part of a strip mall area). I wish their prices were a bit lower, or there were more specials. I would also like to see more gluten free and dairy free options for drinks and snacks. The place wonderfully smells like coffee. The cashiers and baristas are typically friendly.

Slow drip coffee. Sometimes if you sit down and wait theyll do it SO SLOW!! Perfect cup of Joe. Dont forget to ask for a mug. Sit down and really enjoy it. Salads and soups in house at Heirloom Salad Co, on the left side of the huge room its in.

This is my absolute favorite coffee shop. I started going to the downtown location in high school, before coffee was even trendy. The location at the University of Iowa Hospital has gotten us through multiple hospital stays with our kids, and the East side location I have to go to every time Im in town to visit my family. I wont step foot into a Starbucks if Im in Iowa City and can go to the Java House instead!!

A great place to get coffee on the east side of town! Great lattes, espresso or pastries. They have some very good desserts that are tough to top at any other coffee shop in the area

I ordered an iced latte and only get it in a large size. I wanted a small. They have no such thing. The latte was sweet. Ive never had a SWEET latte before. My friend wanted iced tea. Couldnt get it. Caroline said she wasnt coming back. We got complimentary cards but I spent more money than I wanted and didnt get what I ordered. The kids were nice. Not their fault, as we made clear.

Less crowded than original downtown spot. Same great coffee brewed fresh for each person. WiFi, conversation sized tables, couches relaxed atmosphere.

98% of the staff is amazing. While the other 2% are not so nice or educated in customer relations. But as a whole Java House is one of the best places in Iowa City to get a cup of coffee.

Great place to hangout and chat with friends over some great coffee! They have free WiFi as well. Ive seen people get kicked out for bringing in outside food (but that kinda makes sense because they have some food items).

Youre like required to go to Java house. Its like the essence of Iowa City... But Prairie lights has better drinks. Except Java house has good pour over coffee.

Java house is an Iowa city staple and I was crushed when they left the UIHC. The coffee here is better than any other coffee chain Ive been to and the seasonals are incredible and offered year round. Worth a look if your tired of settling for Starbucks.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing coffee...if you are looking for a space to get work done or study (with WiFi) I do not recommend this location...max connection speed of 1.5mbps forced me to go elsewhere.

Nice employees, but I was given a regular (caffeinated) Americana instead of decaf. I have a heart condition and that one glass gave me a-fib ALL day long. Very annoying. I won’t be back because of it, simple mistakes like that are big deals to ppl with heart conditions. Again, nice employees, just potentially serious mistakes.

Best deal is to sip tea there as to take away. More you,money. There was a sofa that qas not so comfy and should be trashed. Someone could get injured.

The coffee always taste burnt. They use to hot of water. Also the medium grind they use does not allow enough taste to come out with that hot of water.

I have never been to any funeral joints that were as dead as this place. The tea was ok...I felt like I was in a library surrounded by ANTIFA yelling at me without sound. I honestly think Ive stumbled upon the most odd and strangest place in Iowa...Im really glad Im NOT suicidal because this place would be ideal!

Coffee sucks. Service sucks even worse. Getting told you have to leave 30 minutes after buying a coffee is rediculous. This happened to my fiance today. She has been a customer for 10 years. The store manager at 1st Ave apparently thinks that he is someone special after obtaining his GED.
