Can’t say enough positive comments about my experience with MotoSport Roanoke. I called looking for a Suzuki DR 650 and had the good fortune to be connected to Jeff in sales. He was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He took my deposit over the phone and I made the 6 hour trip a few days later to pick up the bike. When I arrived the bike was serviced and everything was in order. The paperwork was easy and quick so we were on our way in about 30 minutes.I’ve probably purchased 100 vehicles during my lifetime and this was by far the smoothest transaction of them all.

The service dept was great. I was on a road trip and my front tire needed more balance beads, they had them in stock. They allowed me to pull my bike around and fill it with beads and the. Provided me with air to get back on the road. Appreciate them allowing me to take some time and space from them even though All I bought was a bead kit from them.

Followup Visit: I again visited this multiple-brand dealership. I wanted to see the Yamaha motorcycles, especially the relatively new Tenere 700. The very large building which has a very large showroom space was again, mostly empty. There was only 1 Yamaha motorcycle on display (!), a 250cc dirt bike. A single salesperson was the only employee I saw. He was staring blankly at a laptop computer - he might have been playing solitaire for all I know. There were two other customers walking around the mostly empty showroom, but the salesperson showed zero interest and never looked up to acknowledge or interact with any of us - and we were only 5 feet away. Is this shop going Out of Business?Original Review: This dealership is a big, mostly empty warehouse. Yes they are dealers for many, many brands of motorcycles, but they have very little stock - little-to-nothing to see, few bikes to sit on or talk about. Worst still, the salespeople knows little or nothing about most of the bikes you might ask about. Here is his response then I asked 2-3 questions about the new Tenere 700 - he said I dont know, we carry so many models, its impossible to learn details about each one. So they end up knowing little or nothing about the products they sell (thats after they ask you if you want to order one sight unseen)!

I will never buy anything from this place(other then a part, maybe). Ive bought 2 brand new Honda dirt bikes in the past year from Waynes Cycle in Waynesboro. I tried to purchase from Motosport, but my run in with the Salesperson was not a pleasant one. For some reason I happen to get this person everytime. Hes cocky, but also chauvinistic. He has made several comments about leaving the woman in the car and likes to interrupt me everytime I try to speak. That doesnt impress me. The parts department is knowledgeable, but side conversation is nonexistent.

This place is absolutely the best! I was on a 14 day cross country motorcycle trip from Harrisburg, Pa to Naples, Fl. Im riding a 98 Honda ST1100. My 1st stop, Troutville, Va, I hear a loud noise coming from my front wheel hub. The next morning I rode to Motosport, was the 1st customer in the door. I told my story to Ryan Johnson in the service department, and learned he had a 2 week waiting period for service. That didnt sound good, thought my trip was over. He seemed to understand how important it was to me to continue my trip if possible. Ryan arranged to have the next tech available to take a quick look at my bike. The person who worked on my bike, I dont know his name, Im sorry to say, was outstanding! Within a few minutes, he has determined what my problem was, a missing bolt on my ABS sensor, was what was making the noise, fixed it, and got me back on my trip inside of 45 minutes! They charged me just $24.00 to get me back on the road. I love these guys. If you need to buy a motorsport vehicle, or need service on one, there is nobody better to go to than Motosport Roanoke.

Asked service dept to check over bike, specifically wheels for spoke tension / truing during a recall / tire change appointment. Instead of doing that, they charged me for a chain clean and lube I didnt ask for (in addition to the half hour for diagnosis) and didnt check out the wheels at all. I can tell because the bike developed a pretty bad front end hop after I picked it up. I got home, jacked it up and found plenty of dead-pitched spokes. This negates the convenience of them changing the tires because I will now have to pull the front wheel off and tire (so around 45m of the labor they charged me) to do the truing work myself now. They also over-torqued the bolts on the front fork pinches / brake caliper bolts causing the front wheel to not spin as freely as it should. Now Im having to go over the rest of my bike to make sure nothing else is messed up =/ Not recommended.Edited to reply: Improper torque or assembly procedure of the front brake caliper bolts (I.E. not torqueing them down with the brake lever depressed, etc) can cause drag which is what I was experiencing and had to fix myself, ~1/3 of the calipers rotation was dragging- but its fine now, I fixed it. I honestly have zero issue paying money to support a shop I trust (and wouldnt think twice about an extra half hour of work if I did), but the extra work was never approved by me and insisting that I did doesnt really help things. Even if it was an unsafe condition no one likes a surprise charge from a service shop without notice, the same way they dont like being charged to have specific things looked at neglected. I understand that mistakes / miscommunications happen and will be happy to update my review if contacted to make things right.

Just a note to say thanks for the great service. I showed up at the shop late on the 24 of June with a punctured rear tire and over heard the service manager Niel on the phone and the service department sounded very booked up which did not sound good for me. When Niel finished on the phone he starting talking to me he looked out the window at my bike and saw we were on a road trip he quickly said he could get one of his technicians to look at it and would have us on the road by 6 and he did. So a big thanks to Niel and the technician Mike, Im sure getting a tire to change near closing is not fun. The service was great if I could give an award I would but you will have to accept my thanks. The shop has been added to the groups list.

I’m never ordering from Motorsport again. They ship certain items USPS through a shipping partner and you wait forever not knowing anything about where your package is or when it will arrive because the tracking number they give you just says USPS hasn’t received it yet. This status shows for well over 7 days. Unacceptable!! I’m waiting on a front brake line for my bike. I wasn’t able to ride last weekend because of the sub-par delivery times!! Orders in the past have been delayed for this same reason. Covid-19 is not a valid excuse when I order from other places (revzilla, eBay, summit racing) and they have zero issues getting me my parts in a timely manner. Ditch your USPS shipping partner because they’re making you lose customers!!!

Went to Star City in April wanting to buy a street bike. My salesman was Phil, who is very knowledgable and incredibly helpful. I decided to buy a used street bike (>30,000 miles, over 12 years old) against his recommendation (since Im not an experienced bike guy). I drove it home and the next day it wouldnt crank. I took it back in my trailer expecting to hear, you were informed that you were buying a used product as is. Instead Phil went straight to talk to management and said he only bought this bike yesterday-- and they accepted the bike back and give me for trade-in value! I was shocked and very impressed. I took the trade-in value I was given and ended up buying a brand-new bike. All in all, my experience at Star city was excellent!

I have been a customer here since 2008, initially as someone who bought accessories and had some service work done. My early experiences were fine. I think they have improved as a store and as an organization over those years. I bought a new Concours in 2011 and the experience was okay (new salesman at the time). Three years later, I traded and dealt with the same salesman and the whole process was much much better. Jeff in finance is a good guy too. The whole transaction was great. In regard to comments about used bikes Ive read below, its true that as a retail store they have to mark up the price on used bikes to turn a profit, but thats where haggling comes in.

I let them run my credit (Hard inquiry) and was approved. Even after that i was not satisfied i should walk out with a Bike thats sitting on their inventory for last 9 months. They were not convinced i was a serious buyer or not.. Its hard to tell. My experience turned from Great to absolutely disgusted when i started questioning more about the bike i singled out & ready to ride out with.
