Recently moved to Utah and did not have a place that I knew and trusted. My car was leaking oil so I took it first to a big chain that seemed to be dominant in the area (Im in Orem). They diagnosed that I had a timing plate oil leak and it would cost me $2700-$3000 to fix. My heart sunk. When I was about to leave the guy asked me if I wanted to sell it to him for $1500. I have a 2008 GMC Acadia. It has 200k miles but still runs great and looks great. Anyway, I took it home and decided to think about what I wanted to do. I was pondering and got prompted to get a second opinion. Found GS Auto Repair on Google and while I did see one review that had me nervous, I decided to go get their opinion. The gentlemen that I met was friendly and up front with me on the initial discussion. I told him nothing of the other diagnosis I had already gotten. He said it could be just a small situation or on those Acadias he said it might be something a lot bigger if it were the timing plate. My heart sunk. I was probably wasting my time. But I left it and told him to call me after he looked at it. I got the call and they determined that in fact it was just a seal and a gasket that was leaking. Still a good level of effort to fix but my price ended up being $519. I wanted to hug and kiss the guy. But I held back my admiration. I took the car home thinking okay, but what if he missed something. For a week or so I parked with cardboard under my vehicle and not one drop of oil fell. I got it all cleaned up and now its back to running like it always has, great! And, NO OIL LEAK. I wont bad mouth the big chain that I took it to originally, but I will SHOUT my appreciation and respect for these guys at GS Auto Repair. They are the ONLY place I will take my car for future maintenance and repair needs. THANK YOU guys for your honesty, your experience, and your knowledge of fixing, in particular, my vehicle! You have a very loyal customer now!

Great service, and had been for years....

On March 17th 2020 about a month and a half ago I brought in a used jeep compass 2014 to get inspected because I was thinking about purchasing the vehicle from a dealer. During the inspection I specifically asked how much life the brakes had left, I was told 6 months to a year. I also asked for an inspection for any leaks at all from the brakes, engine, transmission, etc. I was told that there were no visible leaks. Fast forward to today I went in to get my oil changed and was told my brakes were completely worn, 1mm on the front and 2mm on the back. There were both transmission and engine leaks an estimate of at least $800 in repairs, most likely much more. I understand automobiles are machines and can change over time, but I’m extremely unsettled and quite honestly full of disbelief that all of these issues can happen within a 1.5 month period especially after a mechanic (GS Auto Repair) told me there were no visible issues. The car has been driven solely as a commuter to work and back 7 miles per day, with no excessive or extreme use. Before I visited GS Auto I looked specifically at their 5 star google review rating and used this information to help make an informed decision on which mechanic I would use to perform a used car inspection. I am saddened that I had a negative experience, but I feel that its my duty to provide transparency on the level of service I experienced.

Greg is in my opinion the best mechanic in the valley. He not only knows what hes doing hes very smart. The best thing about Greg is that he is honest, very unusual these days. Tyler is also a great guy he really cares about what he is doing and is a great asset to the only mechanic shop I would take my cars to.

Excellent work. The place to go with Ford F series trucks. Greg knows them inside out and is willing to do what it takes to make the repairs.

In fact, upon moving next year, one of the things my wife and I will miss most is having our go-to-mechanic already discovered.

Greg really knows his stuff and goes out of his way to make sure your taken care of. He will even try to explain whats wrong and how to fix it before he fixes the problem in case you want to try fixing it. I always know he will give me the best deal.
