Friendly informative personnel...fixed my transmission problems quickly and at a fair price....

I took my vehicle here to diagnose and possibly repair a Transmission code in 2020. We started with trying to do a minimal tuneup involving replacing a coil pack and a gasket. Because the job was priced so high I opted for a minimal fix to clear an engine light. Needless to say they cleared the Engine light and 6 months later the very exact coil pack they replaced developed a misfire in the same exact cylinder. A week ago I took the Car too my Mechanic in McHenry. The work they did was sub par. Needless to say my Mechanic informed me that the issues involved the same cylinder that was worked on. I replaced One Coil Pack to resolve the issue because of the price. The Coil Packs are not cheap. So basically I paid 650for a one Coil Pack replacement and a gasket. I paid a grand to my Mechanic to replace all spark plugs and Coil Packs. My Mechanic also replaced two tires, Rotors and Brakes, adjusted my rear drums and reinstalled a glove box and changed the oil. The difference in the shop labor is approximately 25 dollars an hour. Il never allow this shop to look at another vehicle I own. To top it off after getting home they tried selling me a Transmission Overhaul. A Transmission Overhaul I haven’t needed. I don’t like being duped and I don’t enjoy throwing a place under the bus. I would like to hear the rebuttal for this shoddy sneaky experience.

Mike, Ed and Tim...along with all their mechanics are the BEST!!! Helped me make best decision on repair options for my van. They worked with my dealership transmission extended warranty company to cover insured parts, etc. I only had to pay my share of diagnostic/repair/labor. They even gave me an AAMCO loaner car while mine was being diagnosed and repaired. Big savings for a senior citizen! Thank you, again, to Mike, Ed, Tim and their awesome mechanics. Dear aamco, i called your store looking for a trasmission on 06 Honda, after calling most of your competitor with no luck and s.o.l. Mike happy looked up my trasmission, incredibly kind and with no hesitation went to check and came back in five minutes, i went their and you guy have hundreds oftrasmission. AAmco gave me a quote of 2300 to 2800 to rebuild transmission took it to Transmission express paid 1800. charged me for diagnostics every where else is free. 3 years 36000 mile is should not cost an extra 800

Don’t know what to make of my experience at this shop. Very friendly staff; however, I was quoted for and told I would need a new transmission to which AAMCO can do for what would have been a pricey and unnecessary fix to my car.I say that because when I took my car to Subaru shop (which I thought would cost me more) — a car diagnostic revealed I did NOT need a new transmission - my total cost with Subaru was 1/3 of what AAMCO quoted me.Makes me wonder why ....Sorry, not a fan.

Needed a valve body gasket to get my 46re transmission back together and they were the only ones in town with the part - wouldnt even let me pay for it. Great place, would recommend 110% based on that expereince alone. Thanks guys.

Love this place! Everyone is so nice and helpful! I have been having a problem with my 2004 wrangler for over 6 months and took it to 3 other people and no one could figure out the problem! (Including the jeep dealership, someone who specializes in jeeps, and another garage in CL!) I was about to sell the car but now it’s starting like it should and I’ve had no problems since! It took them not even an hour to figure out the problem that I’ve been putting a lot of money trying to figure out! So happy I get to keep my wrangler!!! Thanks Mike!

Mike and his team are great! I normally only need an oil change, but this time it was my brakes, rotors and calipers. They walked me through what was wrong and answered all my questions/concerns. Im so glad that I started going to their location.

Always great service, not pushy

Their service was 1st Class! The mechanic who worked on my car was solid! The place is clean with the latest Hi-Tech equipment. I would highly recommend them for the service.This is a friendly and courteous shop. I had a problem with my engine light going on and intermittant starts, so Tim and the crew were quick to get my car in the shop and on the road again. They did a complete overall check of my car with their computer systems and problem was detected and corrected in a timely and professional manner. I was also offered a free loaner car while my car was being worked on. Their quality work is a very high standard, best auto repair shop around.

My experience here was amazing! The customer service was beyond exceptional! Everyone was friendly and personable. They were fast and reliable. I have definitely found the place Ill be going for future repairs and maintenance.

I brought my 2010 Ford Explorer in to have my transmission rebuilt in January of 2019 after the dealership couldnt help me. Carie in the office kept me up to date on everything,with Tony the Technician who was working on my truck. When I got the truck back it was snowing and icy outside. I drove it home and it drove fine and made it up my driveway on an incline. It was the perfect day to try out the transmission. I drove it all winter long in the snow and ice with no problems. After all the driving from January until present, I think the transmission that Tony rebuilt works better than when the truck was new. I will highly recommend them to anyone needing transmission work done. We will bring our vehicle to AAMCO in Crystal Lake for future work and my oldest son will be bringing in his vehicle also. The Transmission in my Buick decided to ‘go towards the light’ abruptly on a Friday night between cornfields west of Marengo. I managed to make it home and took it to a dealership the next day to be diagnosed the following Monday. The estimate was disheartening. I called Carrie and arranged to have it towed to AAMCO.It was an expensive repair on a vehicle that’s still being financed, but she truly did everything she could to get me the best price and a solid warranty to match. I will recommend!

Took our car in to have the transmission verified that it was bad. They did a complete diagnostic check and told me the car needed a new transmission. They gave me 3 honest options. They did everything they said they would do. Very pleasant and very helpful staff. Carie was absolutely amazing. She kept me informed the entire process. She called me a few days later after the car done to see how its running. Very caring and honest business.

New owner will take care of you. Always packed because they are good at what they do. Transmission Repair, replacement, engine replacements and they stand behind their work.

They went above and beyondThis is a really great shop to find if you need work done on your vehicle. They got me right in, checked my truck out and gave a quote. They price didnt change, and they delivered a finished job right when they said they would. So i was heading out to get my truck when i got a flat tire on my other vehicle with no spare. I called to say i might not make it but Ed came and picked me up, brought me to the shop and hot me on my way. They keep you up to date with progress like a good shop should, i really appreciated that, but then to have the owner show up to get me to my truck was just unexpected and over the top. Thanks to all the employees for taking care of me like they did and an extra thanks to Ed for the ride.By the way, my truck runs perfectly.

I was very impressed with the customer service I received at AAMCO. I was pleasantly greeted upon entering by a friendly yet professional staff member. My car needed an oil change and within 5 minutes of entering the customer service area they were ready to work on my vehicle. The job was completed quickly and their price beat other competitors pricing. As a satisfied customer I would return in the future and would recommend AAMCO to others needing auto repair and/or service.

The staff was professional, helpful, and friendly. Our car was taken in to correct a transmission problem that was supposed to have been fixed a few months ago in another state. We had the warranty on it, but were concerned that there might be a problem getting it corrected here. Both Carie and Al, who were at the front desk, assured us that it would be taken care of. Carie even told us that if we needed to rent a car, they could get us a discount with one of the local car rentals. The day we took our car in and were waiting for the rental car company to pick us up from AAMCO, we were able to see Carie answering the phone and taking care of the customers that came in for various services on their cars. She was so pleasant that a man sitting next to us even made a comment about how other businesses should take lessons from her. Both Carie and Al kept us updated on the progress of the car repair. I have been going to this location ever since they opened, and they have become family. I recently moved an hour away and still refuse to take it anywhere else for any service. This is the only place I will let touch my car and I highly recommend them. Everything about there business is stellar.

Carie and the team at AAMCO always come thru for me. At 74,000 miles my drive shaft went in my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep stopped making the part. They worked diligently to find the part and they fixed it. At 96,000 miles, the same Jeeps transmission went (yes I know, no Jeeps ever again), and they had it fixed and even had a loaner for me for the week. My Jeep NEVER drove smoothly until they fixed it. Even Jeep said hard-shifting is normal...well it hasnt shifted hard once. Ill never trust anyone else with this car! LOVE THIS AAMCO!!

They say they take 5:30pm oil change appointments then went back on that saying they had an opening at 5pm, but won’t do 5:30 like they advertise. I work til 5pm and told them I’d be there ten minutes later and was rejected. I wanted to give them a second chance after leaving my air box disassembled and tearing my air intake hose, as well as to make sure the young inexperienced mechanic didn’t strip my drain plug, but they asked me to stay away after a few legitament complaints. I liked their coupons and was going to get a trans flush then timing belt there to, but now I feel going to a more professional shop like Ron’s is worth it without the coupons. AAMCO IS CHEAP FOR A REASON!

The work was fine. The prices were absolutely absurd. And the business practices were een worse.First, they say the only way they can warranty their service is if I buy parts through them. Checked the parts that used, found the same thing, brand new, several hundred dollars cheaper. Also...sorry, what? You cant guarantee your work is dependable unless I buy parts through you? Okay. Well then, your work is just not dependable at all.Also, if you buy your own parts, they up the cost of labor. This is shady. It doesnt make the work harder. It doesnt make it take longer. This kind of business practice shows they are mostly just interested in getting any money they can, not providing the best service for their customer.A couple months ago I brought my car in and I forgot what the quote was but I remember they said it was $1400 for the fuel tank to replace my car. I thought that was steep so they said they can try to look for one in the junkyard but thats the price of a new one. Now, I just called today and hes saying the junkyard one is $1500 and a new fuel tank is $2500.Ive come to this place a few times and have had some maintenance on a few different things. The only reason I did that was because it was right across the street and I couldnt really drive the car long distances. The only good thing they really did was the work was okay for what it was.

Aamco was very good and did all in their power to work with a tough warranty company. Kerry the front office manager was perfect in updates and working with me to secure a rental car. VERY GOOD HONEST BUSINESS. Great experience!!!

I’ve never experienced before in my life such caring, “ real” individuals . There’s a lot of us out here that don’t have time to be without their vehicle, much less wonder if they are being ripped off or lied too, while paying money they can’t afford... these are honest people that know what they’re doing. The manager of the shop in Crystal Lake, Carrie, is like a therapist for those of us who freak out about their vehicle not working correctly and any reason above. She will make you feel unbelievably comfortable after talking to her for two seconds...I’ve always felt better when I’ve gotten off the phone with her...as if someone actually cares. She knows what she’s talking about. I have had three separate experiences with them and I was impressed every time . Their prices are beyond affordable, they are quick, and they can usually diagnose anything that I bring to them before it even gets there. I’ve found who I would like to work on my car every time, hands down. Extremely happy and I’m extremely impressed !!!!! Thank you!!!!!😃

This is the needle in the haystack of McHenry County. They are super reasonable with pricing and offer assistance. My daughters 2013 Hyundai Elantra was acting up. It was the transmission. I was petrified at the potential cost to repair. Cary and the team at Crystal Lake AAMCO were amazing. They walked me through the process, were able to effect repairs for what I consider to be a reasonable costs and even went so far as to provide my daughter a loaner car while hers was in the shop. I am extremely happy with their service and my entire experience was positive. Highly recommend

First of all, this is the first review Ive ever felt a need to post. I noticed I had a few drips of oil on my garage floor so I brought my truck to a competitor of Aamco and they told me I had a few different leaks and that the cost would be around $3500.00 to fix. Of course I was shocked and brought it to Aamco for a second opinion. They were polite and called me the same evening with the diagnostics. They told me they could fix all the leaks for around $2700.00. I had dropped it off on a Friday and asked when they thought it would be ready. I was told it would be ready Tuesday or Wednesday the following week. So Tuesday (New Years Eve) comes around and I didnt get a phone call. I called on Wednesday thinking maybe they were open and they were not. So I called Thursday morning to check the status and Cary told me that she would check on it and call me back. I did not receive a call and decided to call about two hours before they closed to get the status. I understand that things come up and she may have forgotten to call me back. Anyway, the next time I called I was told it wouldnt be ready until Friday because they still had 16hrs of work left. I was pretty shocked but agreed to pick it up Friday afternoon. Friday comes and I called around 3:30PM once I got off work to see if it was ready and was told they were taking it for a test drive just to make sure there isnt any leaks and everything is done and theyd call me back to let me know it was ready. About 15 mins later I was told it was ready and I could come pick it up. The next week I noticed oil spots in my garage again. So naturally I was upset having just spent nearly $3,000.00 to have the leaks fixed. I also now have some type of sputtering problem when I push the gas over 40mph. So I called and was told to bring it back and they would take a look. I did, and received a call the next day saying the engine oil pump is now leaking and I need all new spark plugs and a tune up to fix everything. Really??? I initially brought my truck in to have the leaks fixed and paid thousands and the leaks are not fixed. So they can fix this new leak and tune up etc for the small sum of around $1200.00. Unbelievable. Its sort of like if I were to go to the doctor because my elbow hurt and he/she told me I needed surgery. So I get the surgery and afterwards my elbow still hurts. So I go back to the doctor and he says well you need another surgery to correct the problem. How many times would you go to that doctor? So all in all, Im out about 3K and still have oil leaks. Ridiculous.

I brought my truck in last week with a blown transmission and a broken drive shaft. Everyone there took care of me right away and got everything worked out with the warranty company. Always keep me up to date and very personable. I would recommend them to any one having problems. Thanks you Guys.

They did a great job on my 2006 Rav4 trans rebuild..so far... i am getting ready to take on a road trip......i also needed the ECM, toyota would have charged well over $5500 which is what i paid at Aamco for everything rebuild and ecm. They forgot to replace my battery, but when i mentioned it to them they replaced it right away....would recommend to everyone.

Terrible communication. Talk to them on Thursday, they gave me a high ball price to start job. I said ok. Pull the trans and call me back with exact price. Carie said I’ll call you Friday with exact price. No call Friday-Tuesday, got call Tuesday and the price was 1200 more then the high ball price. I sainill come pick up my truck tomorrow they said it would be ready. Went today to get truck and trans is whipped apart and still out of truck. Then they charged me what they would to put the trans back in the truck when we loaded it on trailer and all the parts in the bed. Worst experience ever. The boss ( ED) is the biggest lier I have ever met. His own employees where calling him names to me and another customer a d saying what a A hole he is. I would think twice about using this location.I have delt with many other aamco’s. This is by far the worse ever.

Without a doubt, I experienced the worst and most dangerous service by the Crystal Lake AAMCO team. Amazingly, they did not tell me that a lug nut was missing on my passenger side front tire when I left the station. They took all tires off, balanced them, and returned them to each axle - never telling me that the front passenger tire was not safely secure. A few days later, at 55 MPH, my tire started to come off the vehicle and almost caused my death. The Crystal Lake, IL store refused to apologize for this gross negligence and potentially deadly risk. NOT GOOD!!!- Tom

GREAT SERVICE !!!!!! I had a serious problem, with my vehicle on 7/25.When I would take my foot off the brake at a stoplight,it would pick up speed on its own.I called Allen the manager,and explained,the problem.Allen said if I,could bring the vehicle in, they would check out the problem.I thought,the accelerator cable, might be sticking.After checking the vehicle,they found a wire harness under the vehicle was the problem.With many days or rain,water spayed up onto the harness connector.The connector was full of water, after cleaning out the connector,and drying it out the problem was fixed!!!! GREAT SERVICE, and thank you,Tim the owner, Allen the manger,and the experienced crew.

All I can say is in the last 2 months these people have bent over backwards to help us. August our 1996 cadillac had trans code issues when we took it for the state emmissions test. The people at Aamco found the problem (bad trans) and did their best to keep our costs to a minimum. They even went as far as to take the vehicle to the test lane after completing the trans replacement.A week after that I was hospitalized for a hip replacement and upon returning home after surgery and 2 weeks at a rehab facility my wife calls from work, her 2002 Honda accord had some flashing dash lights (chk eng, TCS and Drive indicator). I told her to call Carrie at AAmco they took the car the next day and diagnosed...you guessed it, another bad trans (not bad at 204,000 miles). Once again the AAmco team came up with options, meanwhile, on a Friday, the Caddy blew out both main brake lines. Aamco towed the caddy from Gurnee mills to their shop within an hour of our call to Conner and Conner informed my wife she could still drive her Honda locally since we would be down 2 vehicles and we could bring it back on Monday for the trans work not loosing our spot in line.Unfortunately the repairs on the Cadillac were beyond our budget. We dropped the Honda off, the techs started work Monday and went through it with a fine toothed comb. We were informed immediatley of 2 additional problems that could become issues down the line if not addressed. Within a week it is back on the road, they even installed, balanced 4 new tires and aligned it, and the amount quoted is EXACTLY what we paid. (as was the original cost for the caddy trans) Its runs and rides like new!!Thank you Thank you Aamco team, Especially Carrie and Conner. I took my car to get a swap. I ended not getting the work done with them so I asked the manager if they could leave my car outside because I wouldn’t be able to pick it up unill after I got off work. I go pick up my car while I was towing the car I realize that there was damage in my back bumper. It looks like if someone dropped something on it back bumper has a little hole and my paint is also cracked.Makes since because the trans that I was going to get swapped it was in my trunk. I will not be taking my car there ever again. They did not want to take responsibility for the damage.

They towed my car to their location for free and checked out the transmission. It turned out my transmissio needed a rebuild or to ve replaced. I choose not to spend the money to fix my 1999 Dodge Stratus but the service I recieved was very good.

Took my car in for shifting problems, after 3 weeks and $2k he replaced the engine mounts and said the trans was fine. Now the trans is shot - car wont even go into drive so I have to take it to another transmission shop that can actually fix the issue.

They always do amazing work, efficiently and not to pricey.

Enjoy going here and have made them my permanent mechanic. Quick and reliable service.

These guys overcharge in labor.and the service management doesnt make me feel valued as a customer. probably last time i take my car there forshure. highly unrecommend. service ur car somewere else

I had no issues going to them. Got my oil changed and they let me know what else is wrong with the car. Prob will make my permanent mechanic.
