The Tuscaloosa location has a larger pistol selection to offer than the other branches in Birmingham. The store is clean and the staff is nice and professional. I will be going back to the Academy in Tuscaloosa to make more firearm purchase.

The 4 stars are for the selections and prices. The service needed a little help. There was this young man and woman standing at the end of the aisle talking to each other, they saw me walking toward them, they both went in different directions. The guy came back by a minute or so later asking if I needed help with something, I just said, “no I found it and thank you.” Janella on check out was total opposite. She was greeting, asking if we found everything, offering some kind of promo. In total honesty, I’ve been to this store many times before and have had great customer service, that’s why they get 4 stars, I won’t allow bad apples to ruin it.

Got what I needed there and the staff was so kind. I left my cell phone there and one of the staff walked with me until I found it. She was so kind and the front cashiers, and greeter at the door. All four ladies were concerned. I got it back and went to tell the front three ladies and they were as happy as me and the lady who was helping in the clothes department that walked with me. They had joy like I had finding my cell phone, where i left it. WOW! Great people! I will be back.

Can always find what my son needs for his sports. Easy to find staff to ask for help when I need it.

Went in to look for football supplies for our team. Staff was helpful and attentive. My only complaint about this Academy is that they dont have a lot of football inventory. They have a wide variety of baseball and softball inventory, but the football section is always very small.

Instead of multiple small lines that are quick and easy to distance the Tuscaloosa branch has decided 1 long line out into the shopping area with everyone bunched together is a better way

Helpful staff at the gun counter that was very patient. Didn’t wind up buying because they didn’t have what I was looking for.Overall, would go there again if I needed a basic firearm.

Sale personnel had no interest in helping you. I asked for assistance and a young lady started to assist me,then she just left me and went back to gather with the rest of the personnel that wasnt doing anything except standing around talking to each other. This was a terrible experience. It just proves that good help is hard to find. I hope I dont have to come back to the store no time in the future. The worse customer service.

Needed a Mosaic Rocking Chair. Called Tuscaloosa store Ms.BRIDGET !!!Rocked .She put my name on the only Chair in the store. I drove the hour trip, the front assistant helped located the chair, I paid for it and she loaded it in my car.Tuscaloosa Academy Awesome Job!!Im Happy 😊

The prices are a little high, however, its worth the excellent customer service. Bullets arent ever in stock in common calibers, but, that due to the government trying to neuter ours right because they cant out right take a god given Right. The government is supposed to ensure our rights are protected. Our rights arent given by the government they are inalienable to protect our life, liberty, and our pursuit of happiness

Ordered a cooler for store pick up. Received email that it was ready for pickup. Had to wait over 30 minutes for someone to “find” it. Then when I questioned why it didn’t have the strap like it clearly shows in the picture online, I got a “oh well that’s all we got”. Very unorganized and a “don’t care” attitude from customer service.

When you start refusing to tell people the ammo you have in stock its a lazy policy. How are us regular guys who have jobs supposed to get anything. Had a lady yesterday when I went in tell me yall would be happy to let me know over the phone so I didnt have to keep coming in to find yall just sold out. Apparently today it is to much to ask.

Was at this location an hour before it opened waiting to see if there was any ammunition. Around 8:30 am an employee walks out and announces if you are there for ammo, then all they had was shotgun. He said it several times. I was first in line and didn’t need shotgun so I left. I came back to grab some shotgun ammo just to have on hand only to find out they had 9mm, 556, and .308 in stock. I missed out on a 300 rd box of 9mm because an employee misinformed an entire line of folks waiting at the door. What good is a business if you can’t trust an employee? I’m sure it was a mistake and they probably didn’t mean to mislead people but ammo is hard to come by these days and you shouldn’t make announcements if you don’t have all the details.

Worst experience EVER! Received a shirt as a gift and was swapping for a different size - same exact shirt just a different size and was charged a difference in price! The shirt differed in no way except the size and was told by a manager that because we did not have a gift receipt that we would be charged a difference in price as apparently the shirt was on sale at one point (don’t know if it was actually bought at the sale price or not and really doesn’t matter) as we were only swapping for a different size! Will NEVER be back here. I have shopped many places my whole life and have never had this happen. I understand if the shirt would have been a different style or if it didn’t have the tags attached but the shirt still had tags attached we just needed a different size and I was charged a difference because apparently at some point was on sale. I am furious with the way this was handled and recommended no one shop here as I sure wouldn’t want others to experience this same thing.

I always love going to academy sports, the only problem I have is they are alway out of shells and bullets for hunting. I know there is a run on this product but order more than you need . Hunting season is in and Christmas is around the corner. Why buy a gun if you can not shoot it. But I still love going to Academy.

Same product had 3 prices on the shelf and yet another price on the packaging. Had extreme issues with a return. Overall experience sucked this time out.

There are so many great things sold here and even if they don’t have it they can order it and have it delivered to the store. I don’t go very often but I always find exactly what I need when I do. The staff is always willing to help me find what I need. I love the active wear and hunting gear. I usually buy my tennis shoes here and that selection is pretty good too.

Had No Hunting Supplies,Actually looked like the Store was closing.Went to look in the clothing section after I didnt find any hunting merchandise and there was very little if any Carhart clothes to choose from.

Plenty of merchandise. reasonable prices. helpful at the check out but the people on the floor were too busy looking at their phones and talking amongst themselves to be helpful anywhere. Guns and hunting did a much better job at customer service.

Saw an ad for something on sale, called to make sure they had it in stock, drove 20 miles to buy it and the manager said it was a misprint and they had marked the price wrong on the shelf. He tried to charge me $130 more than the advertised sale price. I left and found the same item at Gander Mountain cheaper than Academys advertised sale price.

Selection is amazing! Blows Wal-Mart outta the water. Clean, organized, and not near as many customers clogging up the aisles. Staff are courteous and knowledgeable as well which is a plus.

Great store

I am very disappointed and shocked at the suicidal madness that has seemed to grip Academy sports. The powers that be have issued a decree permitting that privately owned retail stores can open back up for business but despite this allowance, and in light of the knowledge that there is no significant danger greater than at any other time to opening their store, Academy has decided to continue encouraging the panic by not allowing me to go in and buy a bicycle. If this store wanted to ensure their own bankruptcy I dont know a better way then by refusing to let customers shop in their stores even when there is no good reason not to do so. I wont be encouraging their silliness by giving them any more of my money in the future.
