This is a great little gem if youre at all interested in knives etc. Its tucked away in a little plaza off of 15. The owner / proprietor is very knowledgeable about the product. As many manufacturers available on site. I would always prefer to hold the knife in my hand and see its operation with my own eyes. Not a big fan of buying things like knives that I will carry for decades to come sight unseen.

I love everything about this store.this is the best shop for collectibles,Edc,rare knives.there is a great variety and amazing art as well. Artis the owner is very nice and helpful and will answer any question you may have,he even gave me a few tips on how to sharpen my knives.they are very knowledgeable and have a good collection of American made knives.this is the only store I go to due to the owner’s knowledge and friendly atmosphere.I bought a spiderco pm2,and a CRKT Deviation. The prices are great. Going back soon for a katana.T

This is my 6th knife from Artis (the owner) in the past two weeks.I only buy high end quality knives and he supplies exactly that.I’m going to leave a very honest review so stay along and hopefully you guys can appreciate my honesty and me trying to be unbiased as possible. (And trust me I’m a harsh critic especially when it comes to spending me hard earned money) 😁I think it’s safe to say that I will never ever order a knife online or shop anywhere else for a knife again. Artis charges just SLIGHTLY more than what you might find online BUT makes up for it with his expertise. Trust me you absolutely will get your money’s worth by asking the right questions such as about the steel, brand, etc etc and most importantly HIS Insight. If you ask the right questions his expertise will save you ALOT of time and potential headaches when trying to find an excellent knife simply because high end knives are such a Niché market. You’ll find that there aren’t many reviews or much information other than from the manufacturer themselves or from another big knife retailer about many of the knives including the big name brands like ZT, Spyderco, which are sometimes extremely bias.What makes his store so special is not just his ridiculously vast selection but because of who he is as the owner. He never once tried to upsell me anything and clearly cares that when you buy your knife that you are happy with your purchase. I took my girlfriend to get outfitted for an every day carry knife as she absolutely dreads any type of knife but Artis really made a lasting impression by taking much out of his time to really go into detail about knives that you won’t be able to learn online (She now carries her little bestech knife everywhere which I purchased from him as well) and there isn’t enough money in the world for someone to have paid her to carry a knife.He won’t ever talk you into buying a knife. He’s just not that kind of salesman and I always wondered why he never talked me into getting a knife. Everytime I ask him “what’s your favorite knife?” Or “what’s your favorite brand?” His answer was always somewhere along the lines of “eh doesn’t really matter” and now I understand what that means!!! Today was my 4th time at his store and I took my friend Taylor to the shop and I think I get why he answers that way. For him, it’s not the owner who selects the knife. It’s the knife that selects the owner and as cliche as that may sound, you can tell because he doesn’t focus at your face or reaction when you hold the knife, he reacts at how the knife fits your hand. This place has a large selection of knives, machetes and pretty much anything with a sharp edge. Lots of good quality knives and some made by a Forged in Fire champion as well. Cool stuff. The staff is very nice and helpful and will answer any question you may have(believe me, I asked A BUNCH of questions haha). They are very knowledgeable and have a good selection of American made knives. I will be going back and if you want a good knife, this is the place to go!-Lane, South Carolina

Very friendly customer service. If youre into weapons and replaying, this place is dangerous! I am very excited to return. Not a huge store but that lends to the enjoyment of browsing. Cannot speak to the quality or speciation of metals used but as far as aesthetics, the products are very lovely, fun, and intimidating.

Wanted to buy auto open knife (switchblade) and amazon wont ship to NYS even though theyre legal to possess and carry in NYS. Artis is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. The shop has everything you can imagine regarding knives..and even a couple cross bows! I was able to buy the knife that nobody will ship to NYS, its AWESOME!! And, i like to support local businesses. I shouldve shopped local to begin with!They also have used knives at a big discount a case of buy one get one free knives. Its the place to go if you love knives. Im glad theyre in Rochester!

Great place to buy edc knives and related goods. 2 cases of knives and wall stock are buy one get one free and I was charged the cheaper one. The owners are very friendly and helpful, not pushy at all. Would definitely recommend them and I would shop there again.

The Steel Source is, hands down, the best brick and mortar store for knives, swords, and other similar items. It is true that Rochester doesnt have (really) any other options for such a business, but dont let that take away from just how great a store it is, or how excellent the owner, Artis, is. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating, Artis takes the time to go over anything you want to know and everything that you should know. His prices are more than fair, his stock is wide ranging and eclectic, and Artis and his store never let down. Ive been going to Artis for over 12 years, and even though Ive moved away from the area and he probably doesnt remember me, he always welcomes anyone and everyone warmly and like a friend.Rochester is truly blessed to have this store.
