Was going to take my place to a shop in Montclair. Had driven by Pomona Gear several times but did not know the type of work they did. I stoped by on 05/01/21 and boy I’m glad I did. Sam is honest, his prices are reasonable and lower than other shops I have visited in the past. I decided to limp my Jeep over to him the same day (another motorist hit my front left tire damaging track bar/ball joint/alignment etc. ) as I live 5-10 minutes from his shop. By the next day he had the parts installed and my Jeep was ready to go. Don’t let the area or the fact his place is in Pomona deter you. It’s the quiet part of Pomona and his shop is fenced up like a Prison. I picked up my Jeep today 05/03 and had her washed for future adventures! See pics of my Jeep and parts he replaced/fixed. Thank You Sam! And ill be back to do the stuff to my Jeep we spoke about.

This being my first time using Pomona gear and axel I have to say. I am extremely pleased with the results. Sam installed new Eaton electronic lockers both front and rear. Yukon axels new Reel drive shafts and more. And for much less then anyone else quoted me.My 2016 Jeep JK is a beast now!

Pomona Gear is really great!Sam is a really cool guy who knows his stuff. He quickly diagnosed the issue on my first gen Tundra. So Sam replaced the wheel bearings, rebuilt the rear diff as well as install a True-trac limited slip, which is working really great. Now my truck is running smoothly. And all at a reasonable price. I will definitely recommend Pomona Gear!

I blew the rear end gears in my 95 Bronco. I went to Sam and he was a life saver. He did my whole rear end axels and all and re geared my front pumpkin to match the rear. I dropped my truck off and within a few hours Sam was sending me pics of the damaged parts. I dropped my truck off on Tuesday and picked it up Thursday. When I picked it up Sam showed me all of my damaged parts and showed me what he put in. I have been building motorcycles and cars for decades and it’s is Extremely rare to find someone of Sam’s caliber these days. Sam Thank you so much for everything we will be doing a lot of business in the future and I will be sending people your way!!!! But make sure you take care of me first 😁😁😁

Honest Mechanic whos shop I researched and took two of my vehicles to. Sam didnt see two of them as a chance to make double the money, instead he fixed the one with obvious issues and told me to just hold out and maintain the other and he even topped off some fluid on it. Awesome service and a great price.

I had Pomona gear rebuild the front end on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sam diagnosed the problem, did the repair and I was out of the shop in less then a week. Turns out the ring and pinion needed to be replaced and the passenger side axle needed to be replaced as well. I’ve hit the trail twice now and it all works great! I’m super impressed by how fast and hassle free the experience was. I would definitely recommend.

I had this loud clicking sound on my 2004 4th gen 4Runner coming from my front suspension when I go over bumps. I pulled into Pomona gear and Sam immediately looked at my truck to see if he found what was wrong with it, he said my sway bar was loos and tightened it within 5 minutes and I was on my way, he saved me hundreds because I was going to replace my wheel bearings and cv axles but thank God I took it to Sam at Pomona gear, highly recommended this place!

Was in need of Nitro 5.29 gears for my 2016 TRD Off Road 4x4 Tacoma. After calling several shops in the San Gabriel Valley and feeling a bit unsure of who Id be comfortable with to operate on my truck, I finally found reassurance after speaking with Sam at Pamona Gear. With years of experience and knowledge showing through his answers to my many questions and him taking the time to conversate about the process, I knew I had found the place I wanted to open up my front and rear differentials. These days its hard to find a mechanic thats going to give you great service at a competitive price point and stand behind their work.Sam not only had my truck ready a day earlier than expected but personally handed me the keys, joined me for the test ride and earned my business for life.Mahalo for a job well done Sam!Nick LoPresto 🤙11/6/19

This was the first time I went to Sam for work to be done on my truck and I was very pleased with the work he did. My 1996 dodge ram 2500 got upgraded 35 spline shafts, locker, free spin hubs, ect. I had the work done during the holiday season (Christmas and new year) and honestly expected a delay in the work getting done. It took about a week, Sam had sourced all the parts needed and completed all the work. I am very pleased with the work and would recommend Pamona Gear to anyone. I will definitely be back to have my rear axle re-geard and a locker put in.

Very poor place, owner is very rude and SMOG is over priced he wanted to charge me $60 when anywhere else around Pomona is $35-$50. Then he failed me for saying that my wiring harness and my computer was tampered with ??? It is not and he just assumed it because I had a 2 door sports car??? Go somewhere else honestly way better places around Pomona.

NOT JUST FOR 4x4s! Detailed review! My 2014 Mustang GT was making a ‘rubbing’ sound coming from the rear end that was only getting worse as the miles went up and the drone of it was starting to drive me crazy. After changing the fluid and praying it would solve my problems (it didn’t – which confirmed I had serious problems)I decided to do some homework on the subject and look for a repair shop I could trust. I normally do ALL my own repairs because I don’t trust other people with my vehicles, but with a long drive ahead of me right around the corner I didn’t have the time to tackle rebuilding the rear end myself. I came across Pomona Gear that has pretty solid reviews on Yelp and Google. They mostly deal with 4x4s - Jeeps, trucks, large SUVs - no reviews mentioning a lowered Mustang. I figured a differential is a differential and decided to give Sam a call to see if he would look at my car. Asked if I could bring it in the following morning (Friday) and he said no problem. I got there right as he was unlocking the gates and he immediately said lets go for a test drive where he quickly identified my rear end sounds. Said he would open it up and call me before proceeding.I dropped the car off at 9am thinking that it wouldn’t be ready until Monday, maybe Saturday if I was lucky. He called me at 3 hours later around noon saying that my carrier bearing and pinion bearing was shot and wanted to do a full overhaul on the rear end. I figured that my gears were going to have to be changed as well but Sam felt that they looked good enough to be reused. I actually tried to get him to go ahead and change them since he was already in there but he told me it would be a waste of money! (NO UPSELLING/GOUGING HERE!!) He calls me again around 2:45pm saying that the car was ready! NO WAY! I got down there and Sam showed me the bad bearings and we talked for a bit. The car is TOTALLY silent now and drives the way it should. Glad I listened to him and kept my gears! He even called me a few hours later to make sure that the sound was gone and that I was happy.I was beside myself on how well the whole process went. Even though I do my own repairs, the customer service and time frame Sam was able to complete it in gained a customer for any future rear end work I need. 10/10 to Sam and Pomona Gear. THANK YOU!

I was visiting from Las Vegas and my 2013 Jeep JKU broke down on the freeway. The wheel studs sheared off causing the rear drivers wheel to separate from the Jeep, which damaged the wheel, brakes and axle shaft. I was lucky no one was injured in the incident. The wheel came to rest beside the Jeep in the shoulder. It could have been much worse. I called the big name Jeep shops, but they said they were all booked till December.A Google search led me to Pomona Gear. I gave them a call and spoke with Sam. I explained my situation and Sam said I could have it towed to his shop and he would look at it right away. When I arrived at the shop, Sam immediately took a look at my Jeep and asked me about any aftermarket parts on the Jeep. It was 4pm Friday, so he said he might have some trouble getting replacement parts, as most of the aftermarket Jeep parts suppliers were closing/closed and not going to be open till Monday. Sam called some suppliers, but they were either backordered till the end of the year or would not be able to get anything out till the following week. I was worried my Jeep would be stuck there for weeks or even months waiting on parts as I was only visiting for the weekend. The following day Sam called me and said my Jeep was finished. Sam was able to find a factory axle shaft replacement (the damaged axle shaft was chromoly) and replaced/repaired other parts to get my Jeep back on the road. The total cost was more than reasonable (FWIW, I work in the industry). The Jeep drove fine on its return trip back to Las Vegas. I am forever grateful that I found Sam and Pomona Gear. 2020 got me, but luckily Sam was there to help me out. Thanks a million!

I got totally hosed by this place. Do not go here for serious repairs. I had them rebuild my trans on my YJ and end up paying a major price. They put the wrong fly wheel & they must of Lost the Bolt that goes on the bottom of the starter. It ended up stripping out and I checked it out and it had some rigged Bolt with washers. I thought this place was good because I seen them at the 4X4 shows...do not recommend...the Persian guy will rip u off😬

My rear end started making noises is never heard so I took it into my local mechanic, $175 later he says somethings wrong with the differential, its $2300 to fix it but couldnt tell me much more. So I paid for the diagnostic, left and started googling for a specialist. Thats when I found Pomona gear and axle and met Sam, the owner. When I called he said axle rebuilding is $(affordable but wont say in case he wants to raise his prices) plus parts. I drive out to him and just a few feet drive he tells me whats wrong! I leave my truck and he says Ill call you when I get it open and let you know whats up, later that day I get a call and he says any chance you have jet skis? Yes, we do and no I didnt know that partially submerging my truck a few years ago would do any damage to my rear end.... THIS GUY HAS SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE IN HIS FIELD HES SEEN IT ALL!! he then tells me I might need positrack but he wont know until he gets it back together, wouldnt want to sell you a $700 part you dont need!He finishes up in record time of 48 hours. I have a like new rear differential for just under $1200!!!Sam is the man. He knows how to fix what he specializes in and does it professionally. I recommend you go to him right now if your rear end sounds funky or if youve ever forgotten to put your truck in 4x4 when you launched your jet skis!!Thanks Sam, you da best!!!

Brought my 75 chevy in to have the whole drivetrain replaced. New Atlas transfer case, dana 60 front swap, rear disc conversion, bearings, gears, lockers and axles, hydraulic assist steering, full exhaust, driveshafts. Seems like a lot of work but Sam did everything quick. There where a few hiccups, due to with how i set other things up, but Sam figured them out and fixed them quickly. Very knowledgeable with offroad vehicles and what should and shouldnt be done. Couldnt be happier with the work done. He communicated with me very well on parts being ordered and what he was waiting. I would bring him more work in the future and recommend Pomona Gear & Axle to anyone, the same way they were recommended to me.
