We stumbled upon Cunningham when my son was looking to purchace a used organ. From the moment we contacted them to the final delivery, we were treated like family. Chuck invited us to come play the one we were interested in, gave us a tour of the factory and had the organ delivered professionally and promtly. We could not be happier with Cunningham, the folks that work there and our new (to us) organ!! Thank you for making this kids dreams come true :)

Cunningham is a shining example of a company that understands how to treat a customer. They sell great products, but beyond that, they provide customers with an experience. My wife and I took our kids, 8 and 5, to look at a specific piano we were interested and knew they had one in stock. We were greeted by Rich and he first gave us a tour of the factory. All the while, he shared the history of the business and gave us a detailed look into the world of pianos. It felt like a field trip for my kids and they could not have been more excited. In the end we bought the piano we wanted from Rich, not because it was the best price (though it happened to be), but because he gave us an experience that you just dont get from many businesses these days. Its great to see a business like Cunningham continue to thrive in a time when so many businesses have become so impersonal. I would encourage anyone interested in a piano to meet with Rich as Im sure youll have an incredible experience like mine.

I have used Cunningham piano many times now for my tuning but this time was even more exceptional than previous. They have a new tuner named Sean Weissman who came to tune the piano. While here he suggested I get the piano cleaned which I had never done before or even knew possible. He thought is would tremendously help my piano out. I was so thrilled with the tuning from him that I decided to go ahead with the cleaning. He spent close to two hours here cleaning the piano, patiently and lovingly. The result is my piano feels like new again after 30 years. I am amazed at the sound and feel of the piano. I am thrilled every time I play it. In addition Sean is just a great guy. I am so thrilled for me and Cunningham Pianos that they found him. I have always been so pleased with my dealing with Cunningham and it just got even better. I highly recommend using Cunningham Pianos for your tuning needs!

Recently, I had the chance to buy a piano, previously restored by Cunningham Piano. Cunningham Pianos build their own pianos and theyre master piano re-builders too. Well, being that I was talking about buying a piano from a third party, and not from them, I was worried that no one would want to talk to me. I just wanted to understand what rebuilt by Cunningham Piano means, because as you know re-built can mean just about anything. Can I tell you how helpful they were? They have an absolute, unbridled passion for pianos. I talked to an employee intimately familiar with the re-build process and they went over everything with me. After this, I have no doubt that their skill and attention to detail are second to none. If I had a piano that needed rebuilding, I would not hesitate to bring it to them for restoration. Even more impressive however, the owner of the company called me back to follow up. Who could ask for anything more? I cant wait for my next trip to Philadelphia so I can come down and see their showroom. It holds a wide selection of new and expertly re-built classic pianos - all with the same exacting, attention to detail. Thank-you Cunningham Pianos for your care and assistance.

I recently received my restored Steinway B from Cunningham Piano. The process took about a year and around $20,000. During which owner Rich Galassini would not return calls/texts/emails for about 10 times. Rich would disappear for weeks, then finally picked up the phone, apologized, and told me the schedule was delayed for another time. After the apologies, Rich would disappear again. So during the entire year, whenever I thought about the piano, I couldnt help but feel the piano has sunk into a black hole with the restoration fees. It was a truly scary experience. For example, just last month, when the piano was supposed to be delivered, I texted Rich twice asking politely where the piano was, only to no replies. Imagine you were told the piano would come during December, and the owner disappeared for a month, leaving you wondering what has happened? At last, after a whole year, finally we received the delivery of piano, but it required a technician to fix minor problems. As a week went by with no bookings and again no replies on how the booking went, I went to an online piano forum to write a negative review. Rich then promptly apologized and booked the technician, who still has not called me till this point. While Rich has apologized publicly saying his has had personal issues for the last 6 months, I noticed his personal issues only stopped him from replying to me or some other customers like he said. On the online forum, around the days he didnt reply to his customers, he was interacting with others.Such was the service if you give a big job to Rich (not some happy 5-star factory tour from other reviews). If you are looking for endless delays, then apologies, then neglects, you are looking at the right place.

I had a wonderful experience working with Cunningham Piano. Rich Galassini, one of the owners, worked with me to find the perfect instrument, both for what I needed as a pianist and what I could buy with my budget. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I did not feel rushed or pressured to make a decision immediately. At Cunningham they took me seriously and really worked with me, rather than being exclusively interested in the sale, like some other piano dealers are. Rich gave me good advice about selecting a piano and gave me the opportunity to play for hours while I made this important decision.I finally decided on an American handmade Charles M. Walter upright piano, a brand I did not see at other piano showrooms I visited. If you are looking to buy a piano, I would highly recommend Cunningham Piano in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. They have a great selection of pianos and a very knowledgeable and friendly team of piano professionals.I am very happy with my experience at Cunningham Piano. While I was there, singers from The Delaware Valley Opera Company were rehearsing. It is a welcoming place for musicians, and they have the history of excellence, expertise and commitment to the piano which gives me complete confidence that I made the right choice.

I’ve known Rich Galassini and Tim Oliver, owners of Cunningham Piano Company, and have been familiar with Cunningham Piano and its wonderful new and reconditioned and rebuilt used pianos since the early 1990s. I’m an accomplished musician with a keen earn for tonal quality, particularly in pianos. I’ve always been impressed with the high quality of the piano inventory of Cunningham Piano. Recently, I’ve had Cunningham Piano recondition my 7’ Baldwin grand piano, particularly installing new hammers, shanks, and flanges, reconditioning the action and other critical parts of the piano, and voicing. I’ve played the piano twice to determine my preference for the voicing and worked with the technician who performed the voicing to have him adjust it to my liking. The voicing and the feel and responsiveness of the action after Cunningham Piano’s work are absolutely wonderful. The results overall of the work done by Cunningham Piano is superb. I know I’ll be happy with the piano for decades.

In contrast to a lot of other purchases, its not always obvious just how important the dealer role is in purchasing a piano. It certainly wasnt to me when I first began to shop for a piano. But pianos are sensitive creatures and its vitally important to choose a dealer with a commitment not only to helping you select the piano thats right for you, but to supporting you and your piano post-purchase. This will be an ongoing relationship, and its important to choose wisely.Simply put, there is no wiser choice than Cunningham Piano. From the care and concern for you during the sales process, to the follow-up customer service after your new instrument is delivered, Cunningham Piano shines on all fronts.Im thrilled with the piano I ultimately selected--a beautiful grand piano--and the experience I had throughout the process was enjoyable and positive. If you are in the market for a piano, whether it be an upright, grand, or even digital, do yourself a favor and pay Cunningham a visit. You wont be disappointed.

Cunningham has exceeded expectation in every way.I must admit that there are few companies, in this day and age, who care so deeply for the work they do. Cunningham is one of those few. They have been able to bridge the gap between the rich tradition, which is the fine Art of piano making, to the use of modern techniques and approaches. The marriage of old and new has been most harmonious (pun intended).I entrusted Cunningham with a hundred+ year old Steinway A; an instrument which could arguably have been called dead. I inherited the instrument from my Godfather, who taught me to play. Having pursued the piano as a career, my family and I could think of no better way to honour his memory than to have the piano back to life.Rich and Tim took the time needed to do the job right. There were no corners cut, there was no time or expense spared to make this instrument sing. The result is a beautiful instrument which sounds as good as it looks...a real stunner. I literally could have spent triple the money, and not wound up with something that was both so perfect (from a playing perspective), but also so meaningful to my family and I. Sometimes one just wants the job done right the first time. Look to Cunningham to do just that. Im proud to have done business with them, and consider them personal friends.

Just had a Cunningham Upright delivered. The whole experience was excellent. I wont mention names, but my wife and I visited another piano retailer in our area and had a very different experience. A few years back we visited Cunningham, took the factory tour and looked at a few pianos. It wasnt affordable for us at the time. However, this was the beginning of a relationship with Peter and Cunningham Piano. The factory tour is pretty cool by the way. Fast forward almost three years and I walk in to Cunningham Piano and immediately Peter recognizes me and remembered my first AND last name. We only visited once, and exchanged emails a few times. I was impressed! So this time we set out for an intermediate level upright piano. We looked at some Essex and Boston products but loved the Cunningham Piano at over $1,000 less! The piano played better and sounded really good. They also had the option of getting a hand rubbed satin finish, which we totally went with. The finish looks awesome! That was something we couldnt get in the Essex at our price range. While the piano is mass produced, they take care to make sure everything is done properly and they do a great job finishing the job up at the factory and getting the piano ready for delivery. For the price it cant be beat! Plus, we love that in some way we have a piece of Philadelphia history.Great company and great experience. No rush to purchase, they walk away and let you play. All around great company and great piano. We look forward to being part of the Cunningham family for years to come!

We visited on 2 separate occasions and had an amazing experience both times. The first time included a tour of the factory and time looking at pianos. The staff took great care talking with us, answering questions, letting our kids try the pianos as they were the ones for whom we were looking to purchase. We explained what we needed and what we were looking for, and there were many options to meet our needs. We didnt buy that day, but we knew that when it was time to purchase, we would be back simply because there was no pressure and the staff were all exceptionally kind and gracious. We returned about 7 or 8 months later, having done more research on what wed need and want. My husband was in contact with Rich to explain our updated needs and wants. Rich had already done some work to find a few pianos that would fit our specifications. Again, the staff were all very gracious in working with us, sharing some laughs and a few fun stories, and generally making the decision-making process hassle-free and fun, especially for our kids. We worked with Rich again, but one of the other men in the office had a few toys stashed for times when young kids might need a diversion. He was a life-saver for our younger kids!We made a purchase - a Schafer and Sons baby grand - and the piano was delivered in 3 days from the time all the paperwork was signed. It was delivered carefully, it was set up well, the movers were conscientious in their work. Weve had a first visit from the tuner to touch up a few small things. Due to time constraints, he will be making a return trip and we are so eager to have him out again to finish the tuning and touch ups. Hes taking the final steps in making our piano a thing of beauty!Rich is amazing to work with. He genuinely cares about the customer and wants to make sure they are educated and informed when making a large purchase like this. I appreciated that about him. I’ve known about Rich Galassini and Cunningham Piano since 2003, when I purchased my first Grand Piano in Los Angeles. I knew of Rich and Cunningham through postings in online forums and the support he has given others. During the past 16 years, I have followed the piano industry and Cunningham Piano regularly through these online postings to the forums as well as their “reputation” in the industry. I always said to myself that if I ever found myself on the East Coast I would like to visit Cunningham Piano and meet Mr. Rich Galassini. After 8 years as an Ex-pat in Switzerland, I relocated to Washington DC and I had the opportunity to work with Cunningham to ship my piano to them for refinishing. Rich worked with me every step of the way and visiting the Philadelphia facility was impressive. It is an honest piano factory with not only the Cunningham branded pianos, but pianos from every make being restored to “Factory New.” This reaffirmed that I was working with a company that really knew what they were doing and working with Rich, the customer service is EXCELLENT. In addition, they are an authorized dealer of the best brands of pianos new. I am, at best, a novice in terms of skill and experience and I was very comfortable working with Rich. He understood my fantasy of owning a very fine piano and he spent the time showing me everything Cunningham offers. During this trip, along with my son, who is a much better player than me, we were able to see and experience the piano of our dreams. Rich did not pressure us in any way, but as I enquired about the piano in question, he was straight forward in his pricing and fair in what he could do with my piano in trade. In the end I bought a Bösendorfer 225 that day. I have travelled the world and met and seen a lot people in the industry and piano stores, and Rich Galassini and Cunningham Piano are fantastic. I’ve owned four pianos now, and this is by far the best experience I’ve had. Spend some time watching the video’s on-line. The Rich you see in the video is exactly what Rich is like when you meet him.

You dont have to be a pianist to appreciate the kind, individualized attention that Cunningham staff give to their instruments as well as their visitors. All of them made us feel we were welcome guests. Jason led most of our tour, having worked with pianos ever since he began learning from his father at Steinway. Cindy crossed the street to welcome us when she saw looking lost out on the sidewalk, then brought us in and introduced us to the technicians who each contribute their special area of expertise to the restoration of a piano. Her husband Curt started out decades ago when he first built a piano by combining parts of the two left in a house theyd bought.Don played Baroque excerpts on the charmingly encased digital harpsichord, and who would have guessed that THIS was the instrument that would finally pull me happily into the digital age? I bought a Schimmel 7 Grand and love my piano every day! It has a wonderful warm sound, the feel of my old Steinway and it is brand new! Rich Galassini was very patient, helpful and did not pressure me in any way. I should have done this sooner!

Visited Cunningham Piano and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the pianos, the restoration facilities, and the knowledge and attentiveness of the staff. Among other treats, I got to play a Yamaha CFX and a Bosendorfer Imperial! Cunningham Piano will definitely be high on the list of potential stores should I ever decide to upgrade my piano.

I am returning to playing the piano after a 25+ year hiatus and my husband, son and I visited Cunningham Piano recently. We were just intending to explore the options and costs for grand pianos and I wanted to see a variety of different brands in one place. Rich took us on a fascinating tour of their restoration/rebuilding workshops. Then, he listened to my preferences for tone and size, and showed us a myriad of different new and rebuilt pianos. I loved two of their rebuilt Steinways, and went home to think (obsess) all week. Throughout, Rich patiently answered all of my questions and I learned a great deal. I never had those unpleasant car salesman vibes. These people really have a passion for pianos, and its infectious.Today, I went back and purchased the one I had been fantasizing about, and I couldnt be more delighted. I did end up spending more than I had originally planned, BUT I am confident that I am getting a dramatically better quality piano than I ever dreamed I would own. And, best yet-- they will deliver it in 3 days. Cant wait!

We decided to visit Cunningham Piano purely for the tour and boy was it a good decision. It was everything we hoped for and more. Our tour guide, Rich, the co-owner, was friendly, knowledgable, and good with kids (our children are ten). His passion for pianos and restoring them to the highest quality was evident in everything we heard and saw. Rich answered all of our questions and also let us interact with the employees when he wasnt sure. He even introduced us to the delivery guys who happened to be loading a piano in front of the store. We saw several unique grand pianos and learned a lot about pianos and organs. Not part of the regular tour...but it was especially fun for my children to ride the piano elevator which is a large freight elevator from the 1940s. My girls also had fun playing many of the pianos and a pipe organ they had in the back. All-in-all it was worth the trip and a fun activity for our Spring break staycation. I definitely would recommend Cunningham if you are in the market for a high-end piano or in need of antique piano restoration. There was no charge for the tour.

In the more than 50 years Ive been a professional musician, Ive dealt with many piano/organ shops. Most of my involement with them has been as a purchaser, but on occasion Ive worked for them as well. And, in all those years, Cunningham Piano has been the most professional organization to deal with. The employees are personable, friendly, and well-versed about their products, from the owners and sales people to the technians and support staff and even to the amazingly strong delivery men. I love visiting their showroom whenever Im in the area. Theres always a new instrument to audition, and the staff ensures an enjoyable time. Thanks, Cunningham Piano for your continued service to the musicians of the Philadelphia area and beyound!

I had a terrific experience with Cunningham Piano. My story is as follows: Upon purchasing a home two years ago, I found myself the new owner of an older and mostly-functional (but tired) grand piano. My daughter started taking lessons and my own interest was re-kindled (I had taken lessons for several years as a child). After several months of getting back into playing, I realized that I really wanted a new (or newly restored) piano of my own.I started doing some research and talking to others, including my piano tuner. Soon, it became obvious to me that I had to check out Cunningham, as it was the clear leader in the area for restoring vintage pianos, and they also offered all of the top brands of new pianos .I was not disappointed. I arrived on a weekday afternoon and Rich Galassini (President) gave me a tour of the restoration facility and we talked about restored pianos generally and the restoration. There were several active restoration projects underway and it was a very interesting experience. I learned a lot about pianos. After that, we went to the showroom where I was able to play several restored as well as some new pianos, including Cunninghams own line of new grands (the Matchless Cunningham), which are impressive and clearly an exceptional value. Along the way, Rich provided answers to my questions and told me where some of my pre-conceived notions were incorrect. After another visit with my wife, I ended up choosing a new Estonia L168, but it was not an easy decision. A restored 1910 Model O Steinway was a close runner-up, but the mere fact that I had such a choice was amazing, and is a credit to Cunninghams operation. My piano was delivered and set up by Cunningham, and everything went off without a hitch. The delivery and set-up was quick and easy. Cunningham also gave me a free tuning, and followed up with another adjustment when it became apparent that one was needed after that first tuning. I also got a follow-up call to make sure that things were going smoothly. All in all a great experience, and I would recommend Cunningham without hesitation.

Approximately forty years ago, as an inquisitive fourteen-year-old, I had the unforgettable experience of seeing and actually playing a Bösendorfer grand piano for the first time. A piano student friend and I were browsing in Wanamaker’s Department Store when we came across their piano showroom on one of the upper levels of the store. We strolled around, gingerly playing a few arpeggios on the different keyboards, when we noticed a stunning piano, separated and roped off, from the others. We tried to make out the name on the piano, as it was new to us, and the salesman explained that it was a “Bösendorfer - the finest piano in the world.” The salesman, noting that my friend and I had piano lessons and weren’t banging “Chopsticks” on the other pianos, invited us to audition.I played and was immediately impacted by the magnificence of the sound. The piano, almost magically, seemed to play itself. I was deeply moved and impressed beyond words and thought to myself “some day I will have one…”That fateful day did arrive six years ago when I called Cunningham Piano, met Rich Galassini over the phone, and was told that there was a Model 225 available for purchase. Six years ago I did not have the Google+ forum to share my joy, so, today I want to publicly express my thanks for the personal time and attention to me, not only at the store, but also at my home, when our existing piano was evaluated for trade. I sincerely appreciate Richs professional and patient attitude and for everything that was done to help me achieve my dream. Please count on me to provide the highest recommendation to anyone looking for a truly excellent company.

In 2004 my childhood piano, needed a complete restoration and I selected Cunninghams famous workshop to handle the task. It wasreturned to me in August of 2004 sounding absolutely wonderful.Although a great deal of work was needed, the piano sang with arich resonance and smooth action that I had not experienced inmany years. In 2013 my technician found a broken hammer and weagain called on Richard to obtain a new part from Renner in Germany. This was handled in such an efficient way, and was even covered bythe 10 year warrantee. I am thrilled to have this beautiful instrument intact and sounding like new again. Kudos to Richard and the whole staff at Cunningham Piano Company.Dr. Gary C. Jaquay

I decided that I wanted to upgrade my piano from an upright to a grand and spent months researching what was available. I dont live anywhere near Philadelphia, but I found out about Cunningham piano from reading the internet. I decided to get in the car, drive a couple of hours, and look at their shop. This is a place worth seeing. They are in an old factory building where pianos are restored. The people who work at Cunningham could not be nicer. They let me try just about every piano in the place, including a rare, $100,000 Bosendorfer with more than the usual 88 keys. I finally settled on an Estonia piano, after playing many different brands. There rebuilt or restored pianos can often sound better than new, especially if they are based on a classic Steinway or Mason and Hamlin harp (iron frame.) I decided on a newly manufactured piano, but I am sure a restored one would have been just as good. The after sales service was also terrific. I had a minor regulation problem with my piano which a local technician was able to fix. Cunningham reimbursed me for the techs charges no questions asked. All in all, a very satisfying place to shop for a piano, from an historical point of view, and from dealing with nice low pressure sales people, and a tremendous selection. Definitely will go there again the next time I am in the market for a piano.

When I visited Philadelphia, I thought Cunningham Piano Company seemed like an interesting place, so I stopped by. It was well worth my time! I went on an extensive tour of the piano showroom and piano restoration center, and spent two hours just trying out the magnificent pianos there (Bosendorfers, Steinways, Mason and Hamlins, and Cunninghams own pianos, to name a few). The tour was given by the owner. The highlight of my visit was definitely playing the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand, 9 6 with 97 keys (nine extra) and an unforgettable sound.I am a pianist myself, but I would recommend this place to anyone interested in music, quality instruments, or the behind-the-scenes process of building a piano.

Touring this company was the highlight of my trip to Philadelphia. The owner, Rich, and his crew have an encyclopedic knowledge of pianos. It was fascinating to learn about the restoration process and see the minute attention to detail that is put into every step. After seeing the restoration facility, we went to the showroom and tested the wide variety of pianos there. Bosendorfer, Steinway, Cunningham, Schimmel, Chickering - you name it, Cunningham has it. While the value of the Bosendorfer Imperial there was obvious to anyone, my favorite ended up being one of the Cunningham grands - it had a lovely bright tone. But the Bosendorfer Imperials extra notes added a beautiful richness to any song played on it...ah, I shouldnt try to pick a favorite. If you have a piano that needs restoration, or if you are wanting to purchase a new or restored piano, you ought to check with Cunningham first.
