Ken welcomed me and helped me pick out a hat for my mom who shares her birthday with Christmas. He measured the inside of each hat we looked at to make sure the size was just right. Once I chose a hat, Ken steamed it, and packed it nicely with extra tissue paper. This is the service I got plus some great conversation. Go and see for yourself.

Ken makes outstanding hats which are all unique and superb in quality. Before I became aware of the Hat House, I was searching for a specific hat. I looked everywhere from all over different websites and walk-in stores. A lot of hats that I considered were either sold out or didnt exist. I could not find anything to my liking nor anything that had the kind of detail I knew the hat that I wanted deserved. Then after trying so hard to find one, I thought of having my own custom hat made just for me. The Hat House was easily my first pick. We would meet at the shop to look at photos to take the best elements from different hats and apply it to mine and talk about adjustments that should be made to bring to life the hat I had in mind. My girlfriend and I walked into multiple hat stores in the city. We immediately felt welcome when Ken greeted us at The Hat House. It didnt take long for us to realize we were in the presence of a true hatmaker. His hats are a work of art built by a man whos mastered his craft. Ken had an answer to every one of my questions. He generously gave us an hour of his time to make sure I walked out with the hat I loved. The best way to put it, Ken made me feel like I was Harry Potter walking into his wand store. Thats how personal this experience was! It definitely wont be the last hat I purchase from the Hat House.

The Hat House is a true New York gem! They carry a great assortment of hats, create beautifully crafted custom hats, and stock kimonos hand-selected in Japan plus lots of fabulous Japanese accessories. Ken, the owner, was very helpful both over the phone and in the shop. Such a great spot, I cant wait to come back.

I have coveted owning a custom beaver hat ever since my first ski trip to Colorado as a college student forty years ago. However, I never saw the perfect hat for me. Then I had read about The Hat House and just needed a trip to NYC to make my dream a reality. As luck would have it, this past December my wife and I finally found ourselves with the Lees in their Soho shop chatting about all things millinery and ideas Ive waited to make a reality. Ken carefully measured me and designed a hat that surpasses what I could imagine. Ken from Hat House is a real artisan, and in this era of cheap, disposable consumer goods, there aren’t many of those left. I brought in a one-of-a-kind wool cap with great sentimental value for cleaning, refitting, and a small repair. Ken was knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient in describing his methods and pricing—but most importantly, he did exactly what I wanted and did it well.

After an exhausting search in trying to get a Panama Hat repaired that I purchased from Eddie Bauer, I came across The Hat House. There were a few holes developing in the crown of the hat after years of wear and I didnt want to part with it just yet. Ken Lee took my phone call and immediately followed up with a text message after discussing some options. He was able to pinch/clue the holes in place and I am very happy with the results! Also, cant say enough about the the outstanding customer service Hat House/Ken provide. Some other businesses should do the same/make it a priority. I got lucky with The Hat House. I had a really fine Panama that I had purchased in Montecristi Equador that had some nagging fit and brim issues. There was no place to take it in Cleveland where I live but I travel to New York several times a year so I did an online search and found Ken. The rest is history. He knew what I had at a glance and confirmed my feeling that this required a careful approach. He was very informative and conservative but eventually enlarged it, replaced the band, beautifully sewn BTW. Ken also fixed a felted cashmere fedora of mine that had been unwearable for years and now I rarely take it off. He really knows his stuff and I am bringing a couple of old favorites to the City on my next trip for a tune up. Everything was very professional. If you wear quality hats, don’t hesitate.
