I received the most personalized experience while in Ellens shop, beyond my expectations and ended up with the perfect hat for my dress. Her millinery techniques are classic, her eye for balance is exceptional. She is an artist in so many ways, and perhaps the only true milliner remaining in New York City. Thank you Ellen Christine!

Ellen Christine hats are the most beautiful hats in the world. Ellen Christine has a superb eye for knowing exactly what sort of hat is just right for you. I am almost embarrassed to admit how many Ellen Christine hats I own. Her hats are spectaculary flattering. They also last. I am still wearing Ellen Christine hats I bought ten years ago, Ellen Christine herself is wonderful.

December 2016, I commissioned a fascinator from Ellen Christine Couture. Ellens headpieces are truly works of Art. I wore it on the cover of my first book ~ Ageless Bride. It is such an exquisite piece. I am a very happy client. Gigi Schilling

From One Mad Hatter to Anotherby Ben Robinson(May 2017)It was a slow start to a long, fruitful and educational journey.I make my living as a professional magician. I’ve spent over forty years on the stages of the world learning the language of illusion. I state my background because it necessitates co-workers who don’t have to be told twice. In my business, it is always a long road to a short ending. We work long hours to do things that take mere seconds on stages creating smiles.A few years ago I was engaged for eight months of work to create a show at The Museum of the Moving Image (NY) celebrating the magician’s impact on film from 1896-2011.The costuming of some of the segments of the gala show had to be perfect and exacting of the period they represented.Have you seen the punch line yet? Rabbits and...hats go together like ocean water and sand.I called Ellen Colon-Lugo and asked for an appointment.Since that victory, where even the NY Times mentioned my hat she worked on, I realized the hat created was my signature. That means, when someone is going to mention me or my work, it is very likely they will mention my black hat in the first minute. The creation of Ellen Christine Couture is that profound. In 2014 I began work on a very complex illusion budgeted at $3,000 and has since ballooned to over $8,000 with little end in sight now three years later! The project is ongoing and yes, includes a hat made by Ellen Christine Couture.I know what I am about to say is going to sound like fiction; but it isn’t.I requested a hat to be made from scratch. A very specific hat that is famous. A cowboy hat worn on TV in the 1960’s was needed to complement other artisans’ work in Belgium, China, California and New York. Many moving parts to this creation still in progress.I scaled the spiral steps to the shop at least five times over 8 months to see, approve, examine and test the brilliant hat Ms. Colon-Lugo created out of beaver and silk. Ribbons flew from Paris to New York. Hat blocks and sculptural tools took their place behind the Head Mistress Wizard herself and work began. Two deadlines of photo shoots and a movie premier I appeared at were met evenly, and then the unbelievable happened—this great work of art was...yes...stolen.To make a long story longer and oblique, Ellen’s hat became the focul point for the New York City police department apprehending a long-standing criminal enterprise now discovered at over 30 airports internationally! The details of the case are still revealing themselves three years later, but I can tell you it led to long afternoon talks between me and Ms. Colon-Lugo concerning the reclaiming of my chapeau and realizing the “target” finery can make to criminals. This adventure aside, I have my hat, love it to death and am thrilled to call Ellen my friend. She is a brilliant artist, and I am completely sure that anyone who has one of her hats, indeed has one of the finest hats in the world and it will make your life much happier. To own a Ellen Christine creation is to own something akin to a Swiss watch. It works. It’s gorgeous. And, it is functional for style, warmth or social impact.I can say that because I have worked with this woman now on several projects and each time it has not only been “worth it” but, has enriched my life.I cannot endorse Ms. Colon-Lugo’s work highly enough. She and her company are that good.
