I came to Anawalt with the mission of getting plants and reinforcement for my chameleon enclosure. The manager of the garden section was so kind and patient with me showing me plants that would work and warning me about plants to be wary of as they may be toxic to my chameleon. His knowledge was extensive and he freely shared it with me. In addition he guided me to the appropriate reinforcement of the cage. Everything he suggested has work like a charm and I feel so fortunate to have his guidance. My chameleon loved his new home and enjoys climbing in the healthy large yellow jade which holds his weight fine. Thank you Anawalt

In my previous life, Id dread going to the hardware store. Packed parking lots, massive crowds pushing their carts with anxiety, miles of walking and looking through shelves filled with everything except the one screw you need, staff who answers any question by an aisle number, and the punishment of the cashier line. And one day I discovered Anawalt and I was reborn. A humane hardware store. Yes, it exists, and its right here in LA. The right size, the right selection, and most importantly the right staff - friendly, helpful, efficient but not stressed, caring. Who would have thought that shopping for bolts, fertilizer, or lumber could be enjoyable?

Would give 10 stars if I could. So nice, and great for everything from arts and crafts to full on renovations. Also so awesome to have close by, and way better than a regular hardware store.

I really enjoy having this store close by. Ive never had any issue with customer service, though I havent had many questions during my shopping. This store is nice because the more tradesman oriented stuff is at either end of the rectangular indoor sales floor (entry/exit is at the middle), so its very easy to shop what you need if youre not a tradesperson. Much preferred to the sprawling home depot layout. Bonus points for selling KN95 masks (when theyre not sold out of course).

Had a great experience in their lumber yard. Im a total newbie and was looking for boards for an online woodworking course Im taking. They helped me pick out boards, and even cut them down to fit in my Honda Fit. Super friendly and helpful staff and even carried the lumber directly to my car. All staff were masked, and the lumber yard was all outside / well ventilated so outside of a quick trip inside to pay I felt quite safe from a COVID perspective.

I love this store! Its small but usually has whatever I may need for my projects. The garden area is nice with a great selection of plants. Staff is generally nice and helpful. Im the type of person who supports local businesses rather than corporate monsters and for many good reasons.

The staff is great. If youre a tradesman just know youre not going to come into this store and expect to be able to shop through a variety supplies and materials. They keep their selection to the basics since it is a small store, the type for DIY projects. Overall great place but I do wish they were more suited for tradesmen like plumbers and electricians.

The staff was so kind and fun I didnt want to leave. Lorenzo and the other gentleman helping today in nursery were wonderful. Definitely will come here for all my plants from now on.

I come here for the amazing plant selection. They have very affordable and beautiful potted flowers and herbs, including less common varieties of mint (like orange mint!), lavender, and basil. They also sell orchid pots, bamboo sticks, seeds, etc. Great gardening section. Hardware sections are great, too. The owner is very friendly and down to earth.

Excellent experience. I went in knowing I needed to get my lumber cut to size since I lacked the space in my apartment and my chop saw is 500 miles away. The gentleman that helped me confirmed what i wanted from the list I had twice. Then we inspected EVERY piece of lumber which was nice, and then her measured twice and checked every item off.Top notch.

We have always had positive experiences with the staff and products at Anawalt. Today was exceptionally great. After checking out, we spilled a quart of bright blue paint everywhere. They didn’t even seem annoyed, but immediately came to clean it up and insisted we get a new quart without paying twice. They were incredibly gracious, friendly, and helpful! We will be back.

They are a well supplied store only problem that I keep experiencing is there cashiers they are so slow an at times there will only be one cashier and its the slowest one the guys on the yard are a great help but for one guy who jumped on top of my truck to load some stuff and I told him why he did that and he just brushed me off with a how else was I supposed to do it, I have had many things loaded on my truck in a professional way this guy just did not care

Very good place to buy material and garden

After calling three home depots to have them all tell me that the saw is broken I found the sanctuary that is Anawalt Lumber Yard. Upon entering I strolled through the beautiful plant nursery and then went up to the booth clearly marked for cut lumber. The gentlemen working was exceptionally friendly and took the time to listen to what my project was, as someone who is not so handy his advice was indispensable.

Very disappointed! I’ve been a Customer here at the Highland Store for over 10 years. I purchased a plant for $8.99 and it died 3 days after I put it into the ground. I’ve got a green thumb and a half and if it’s my fault ‘No Problem’ I never would have returned it! But this plant just wasn’t going to live! I bought the plant about 2 weeks ago and decided to finally return it/exchange it after giving it my best shot at revival! This would have been the first time I had ever returned a plant/over 10 years. Customer Service couldn’t find the receipt or transaction. I said ‘I don’t know why you can’t find it. I bought it here less than 2 weeks ago and the plant is defective...I just want an exchange ‘No that’s not possible, it’s not Store Policy’ says Alma/Store Manager...I responded ‘so it’s my fault if the sales person possibly put in the wrong Code or I happened to have paid cash that day or your system isn’t flawless’?’This is why we left our goods we were going to purchase and made our purchase elsewhere...not only were they polite and friendly but offered me a 10% discount on all purchases made that day!Good-bye Anawalt on Highland! The Guys who work there are great, but when Management on HIGHLAND BLVD basically tells you your not worth $8.99 OR your word...Good-bye! Went there to get more paint in the morning. I asked the guy for the same paint that I bought before but in a smaller can. He just said There its up there Its on the top shelf. Im only 55 and it beyond my reach. I had to tell him that I cant reach it. Otherwise I wouldnt ask. So they didnt have the smaller can I want so i asked when do they get more. His simple answer was I dont know but we will get some. My room is 3/4 finish. People here dont really feel like helping customers. I will go to Home Depot instead.

I cant say enough good things about Anawalt Lumber! I love knowing that I can shop there without the constant harassment or pushy sales atmosphere, but get that attentive, friendly, knowledgable help when I need it. Perfect balance. And dont forget the diverse, unique, and relevant selection.

I like the place, it has tons of things. The associates are friendly and they try to help in the best of their knowledge. There is everything clearly overpriced. It definitely needs some cleaning maintenance: the shelves and the items are so dusty and dirty so i would recommend gloves while visiting it.

I love this mom and pop store EXCEPT for the Nursery Staff - they seem to hate their jobs and are just miserable people and they treat the customers as such. Dave was a great nurseryman there - but he retired a few years ago and since then - the department is just full of attitude. The lumber and hardware staff including the cashiers are just wonderful helpful people. I dont know why they cant find a few polite hippies to work in the nursery! I see a few reviews of the nursery men left by woman that are positive - maybe these garden goons just dont like men! EVERY customer deserves to be treated with respect and courtesy. It blows me away that these men have such egos and attitude - they should be working behind the scenes instead of with the public!

Theyre just not very friendly here. Especially the girls checking you out. And it can take forever to get someone to help you, even when there are hardly any customers in the store. Go to Koontz in west Hollywood for an amazing hardware store selection and staff that actually like their jobs!

If youre looking for the big box store experience, this is not it. Our neighborhood hardware store, I can always find what Im looking for. And the nursery, though not large, has wonderful array of plants. And the folks that work here are always helpful, too.

I found a lot of items on my own that I forgot I needed. To work on repairs in my apartment buildings I have a Home D. commercial acct. & trades people but it was very easy find things, including a bent wrench that was nowhere on the internet. Deadpan, funny checkout.

Desperate for a space heater I could walk into the store, purchase, and drive home with, Id visited and called about 20 stores near me. Home Depots×2 Targets×2, Best Buy×2, CVS×3, Rite Aidx3, independent mom and pop appliance storesx3, and all list equally daunting with sme negative results. Finally, visiting Best Buy, the last sales attendant told tell me, Just sold their last remaining heater in stock, then quietly added, but I was at Anawlt Lumber and Hardware, Santa Monica and Highland earlier today and they had several different styles, types, with diversity in price tags as well. I immediately called them, got an live, very pleasant and personable lady sales rep..Her sunny voice, however, was quick to say thst she just may havery just sold the last heater. I let out abandoned moan of disappointment and told her that the cold weather was killing. Not one joint in this 80 year old body wasnton fire or hurting, Could you maybe have just one, remaining, perhaps abandoned floor display model?Excuse me one moment while I check the back again.Within 2 MINUTES SHE WAS bacK on the phone. Only one left thats it. : My name is Sandra Todd, please, hold that heater.Ill give you my card number.I am on blood thinners and get cold easily along with my 6lb. pound blonde Malchi mix snd weve have been freezing these past weeks. Thank you, thank you, thank you.I dont need your card # and Ill it for hold it for you tonight with a good price.She didnt disappoint. Traveling at breakneck speed through 5:30 Hollywood traffic. I arrived to find the tower heater sacked and awaiting pickup.5 minutes, no kidding, in and out, with my packaged space heater! Super helpful. Needed a additional shelf for a custom bookcase that was built into our house. Lumber guy and I reviewed numerous options. I gave him the dimensions, I paid, he milled it beutifully and loaded it into my car. Mind you this wasnt a little board. It measured over 7 and 1 3/4 thick. Got home and it fit great. Going back next weekend for a.climbing rose. Sure home depot would be less but the differential in price versus the service was well worth it. In in and out in 20 minutes. Id just be finished finding a parking space at HD

I told them I am a killer of all green things and they armed me with hard-to-kill greenery take that Stephen Sea gal! The goldfish plant I purchased is thriving but within a week all the flowers disappeared- but its STILL ALIVE, so there, I havent killed it yet.

I tried looking up prices online but they dont have that option. You have to call. When I called I was out on hold for 15 minutes then hung up. Called back and was on hold for 10 minutes and hung up then called back and was in hold for another 10 minutes and hung up. Get with the times anawalt and get a decent website so we dont have to call and not talk to anyone.

As a Modern Man and part of Generation X, I have had little need for lumberyards or hardware stores. People of my generation never paid attention when their dads tried to teach them basic mechanics, carpentry or how to fix a toilet that wont stop running. In my dads day, every guy knew how to do these things, but the males of my generation were too busy intellectualizing over how better to attract girls, what are the best British rock bands and how many hits of acid we could take without deciding that trying to fly off a tall building was a good idea. Still, even mechanically ignorant people like me occasionally take it upon themselves at least to try to do something to improve their homes without having to call a handyman.For me, it was assembling new bookcases. Naturally, we got the cases from IKEA, so assembling them required little more than chimp-level intelligence. But as they were from IKEA, they did not have enough adjustable shelves, so I needed more shelves. And as the bookcases came from IKEA, the shelves were non-standard size, because lets face it, IKEA sucks.Predictably, our local OSH Hardware didnt have shelves that would fit, and fortunately I was able to determine online that Home Depot didnt, either, saving me a trip there where I would no doubt have blown up at the first incompetent employee that pissed me off--if I could find an employee to help me--which happens every time I go in there.Luckily, I found this Anawalt Lumberyard, not necessarily in my area, but close enough. They happily cut me shelves exactly the size I needed that looked terrific in a few minutes, charged me next to nothing, and everyone I dealt with there was polite, helpful and professional. I was particularly taken with the nursery and the guy running it, who demanded a quarter before giving us a tour (my wife actually dug a quarter out of her purse and handed it to the guy, which made him stand gape-jawed and staring at us in disbelief for a few seconds before he hurriedly explained that it was a joke).Never again will I bother with Home Depot. I like our local OSH store just fine; they have good folks working there, too. And our local nursery is terrific, staffed by friendly, knowledgeable people and right up the street. But Anawalts nursery charges about a third what our local one does, so no more OSH or local nursery, either. For me, its Anawalt, or call a handyman.

Rented a chainsaw. It literally could not cut through the tree trunk of a fig tree. I ended up just using my sawzaw with no problem. I returned the chainsaw, and made the mistake of telling the team member that the chainsaw didnt work. They said the would then have a manager call me.. (note: I didnt ask for a refund, it was less than $70 bucks, that is a trip to target) so I presume the manager was going to call me to ask what had happened. Instead the manager calls and immediatly starts insinuating I am lying and trying to get out of paying?!?! Then tells me he is going to charge the rental... I didnt even ask for a refund! I simply told them something was wrong with it. Long story short, completely retarded manager that jump to conclusions. The general staff were actually really professional throughout. I am amazed however at the managers poor customer service skills and inability to communicate in a calm and professional way. Perhaps he can learn to do his due dilligence before jumping to conclusions. Lesson learned, I will stick to home depot.
