My husband and I dropped off our truck for 5 days in order to get a “transmission repair / replacement of several parts for the transmission” before driving across the country for work. We were charged $3k only to have the same issues on the highway that we did before our visit to AAMCO (high RPMs, problems with gear shifting, and resorting in using 2nd gear to get it to drive over 40mph). When I called to speak with William who had worked on the truck, he was less than pleasant; defensive and argumentative. I am convinced that we were swindled and lied to. Very disappointed with the experience of such a well reputable company.

The quality is impressive. I have the smoothest transmission I’ve ever felt because of their work. They have a great warranty and William helped answer the dozens of questions I had. If you’re looking for quality, long lasting transmission work, this is the place to go.

This place is a sham that just wants you to spend more money then you need to. I called the day before and was given a quote on a trans filter and fluid change. I scheduled the job for the next day after I get off work. I drove an extra 40 mins off of my route home in traffic. After arriving he did a 20 minute inspection of my vehicle and a test drive, he said he called his manager while on the test drive. DRIVING MY VEHICLE and making calls!! I had mentioned adding an additive 300 miles prior and because of this said they would not do the job and suggested I do extensive repairs on the trans. The vehicle was running good too, I was just doing regular maintence. What a waste of time.

If you are considering using AAMCO, read my story first. I filed a complaint to AG already.My car got a transmission problem and couldnt move. The car was parked at street in Libertyville while I had to go back to Skokie. I saw AAMCO Transmission Libertyvilles website says free towing on major repair and only 3 miles away from where my car parked. So, I decided to contact them.They towed my car and quote me $6000+ for a re-manufactured transmission. I said I would let them junk the car since it is an old car not worth it. The owner, William, said even I junk the car I still need to pay him $900+ for diagnosis (they dont even show me the diagnosis report) and he can put a pre-owned transmission for $3200+. He talked into me and I agree let him put the pre-owned one.When I picked up the car he charge me $3400+ including $135 TOWING FEE. He said free towing only for re-manufactured transmission not pre-owned but that is not what on their website. I still paid and got my car back.Right after I picked up the car, I realized the steering wheel is not aligned like before. I call William and went back the other day to show them. He said they didnt touch the cars alignment and dont want to take any responsibility.I took my car to an alignment shop and they gave me a report that shows cars front tie rods are bent. They cant do alignment until I replace tie-rods. I took the car to another shop and let them do the inspection and fix everything for $600+. The shop shows me the tie-rods where are bent by tow truck with hook sign.I show AAMCO all evidence from both 2 auto shops and call him several times. He doesnt want to response anymore and hung up the phone.STAY AWAY

William and his crew are honest, professional, and timely. I dropped my car off on 12/26 and let them know that, if possible I need the car back by the weekend. Even with a garage full of other cars to work on, they were able to diagnose my issue and repair it by noon on the 27th. These guys are great!

I have had some major work done on two cars i own. William and the techs are great to work with. They got my cars done in a very respectable time. After getting estimates of $650 to $1,800 and not being able to get my vehicle in for over a week and being told I may have to leave it for up to 4 days I visited this shop. They quickly diagnosed the problem and did the repairs for $270.00. The promblem is fixed, van runs great. I was in and out in 3 hours. I highly recommend this shop. I took my car to the dealer to get the transmission inspected because the car was not shifting comfortably. After a few hours of testing, I was told by the service manager that my car needed a new transmission. I was quoted an outrageous price. I turned around and walked out. Later that day, I was searching on google and came across this Aamco. I read many positive reviews so I decided to bring my car here. I was greeted the minute I walked and welcomed by the manager. I was visiting Chicago from Canada and my car started having problems. I did a quick google search and found the nearest AAMCO location (it had really good reviews). I must say that I was very pleased with the service I received from the AAMCO team. They took my car in right away and started to conduct their inspection. The mechanic identified the issue immediately (and also showed me things that I should keep an eye on that could wait until later). He did an amazing job resolving the situation at a reasonable price. He didn’t pressure me into making unnecessary repairs or purchasing products. Also, he told me exactly how long it would take and I came back and my car was ready on time. I highly recommend this amazing location to women who don’t know much about car repairs. Manager/staff are honest and do a very good job (which is hard to find these days).

My 2016 KIA Rio transmission went out and the dealership didnt want to fix it because they said the part is not covered under warranty from the factory. I came here to see how much it will cost me to fix it. William told me he will take care of the car for the cheapest price possible. I spoke with Tom, the manager, because I needed a transmission flush for my Subaru Forester. I was uncertain about possibly needing differential service as well. Tom suggested that I bring my car in so that he and his team could thoroughly inspect my car and definitively know what work was necessary. After diagnosing the issues, Tom called me back and explained what he recommended be done at this time, the cost involved, and the amount of time it would take to complete. Tom was very professional, upfront, and respectful as he explained the service and answered my questions. My repairs were completed by the time promised and for a reasonable price. When I returned to pick up my car, Tom followed up by showing me exactly which fluids had been replaced and by going over the warranty for the work done. I appreciated the extra care he took to make me feel comfortable and confident in AAMCO Transmission & Total Car Care!

I was having trouble with my transmission, but Tom and his crew took care of my car professionally and in a timely manner. They treated me with respect and wanted to give me the best deal (even though anything transmission is usually expensive). Staff is really friendly, the shop is very clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking and prompt service. The manager William is very knowledgeable and attentive. Mr. William was such a great help with fixing the transmission in my Chevrolet Tahoe. It was very complicated for me to be an out of towner from another state (Pennsylvania) and let someone who I have never met before fix my car. However, the owner and the workers at the shop had both did me a huge favor and fixed my car perfectly. Not only did Mr. William and his workers fix my transmission, they had also told me other problems that were wrong with my truck. Instead of rating this place a 5/5, I would rate it a 10/5. Tom was very straight forward with me and was able to spot the issue with my car right away over the phone, for reference I drive a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT and he said he could get me a replacement radiator in the next day so I could pick it the day he and his team installed it. He sat me and my parents down and showed us our bill even before we agreed on payment. Tom is very trustworthy and friendly and strives to do his best and i will continue to give him my business and recommend him to all my friends, family, and co-workers.

We had an issue with a brake caliper locking up while on a trip to Illinois from Iowa. The service manager, William, really jumped through hoops to collect all the parts needed for repair from multiple vendors to get us on the road as soon as possible. He also brought us to a rental car facility and got us a rental car at a discount rate. The price for the work was fair and we got back home to Iowa safely and only a few hours later than planned. These folks do a great job!

I blew my transmission out and I went around looking for people to help me out with my transmission. AAMCO was the only option that would rebuild my transmission and give me some insurance with it. This place has very friendly professionals. After getting a diagnostic on my vehicle for an oil leak they were straight to the point about the problem it may be. Very happy with the service from Tom and his team. Started having issues with my Wrangler a few months back and Jeep could not figure out the issue. Problem continued so I dropped the Wrangler off with Tom...5 business days later my Wrangler is repaired and running like new. Toms team ran their diagnostics as soon as I came in and determined there was an issue with the torque converter. Had an amazing experience at this shop. The wait time was super short. The staff there are friendly specially William (I think he was the manager) if you have a really expensive Lexus like me and need some work done on transmission, they will do a better job than the dealer and for a way cheaper price.

Tom and the team and Aamco did right by me every step in the process. I needed some time to get the funds together and he held my car at no charge. My car was fixed perfectly the first time and drives like it was new. Somehow while my SUV was there the windshield got cracked. Wonderful service at the Aamco in Libertyville, IL. I requested an appointment the day before and heard from the manager Tom early the day off my requested appointment. They were able to get me in at my requested time. Tom was very warm and friendly. Their shop was clean and comfortable for the short wait while they did a Transmission Flush. Tom was clear beforehand that the synthetic fluid would be an extra cost. I appreciated the clarity and straightforwardness. Will be recommending to friends and family.

I was having issues with what I thought was my transmission, so I called aamco at 7am, which was 1 hr prior to the shop opening. Thankfully Tom answered the phone and said he would clear a spot for an appointment for me at 8am. I requested a transmission flush due to concerns of the way my vehicle was operating, Tom assured me he would run a diagnostic prior to, which would indicate if there was a bigger problem. After Tom ran the diagnostic, he advised us against doing anything to the transmission stating that it could potentially cause more problems with the engine. I dont even want to give any star to these guys. Not sure who rated them 5 stars. Just trying to fool and earn money from people. I took car to them for Engine lite on. They made me sit for 1 hr and then their manager (who is on phone) talked to me and suggested that I need $700 to fix the sensors and then they have to open transmission and most probably need to put used transmission which will cost me $1600. Really Daves transmission fixed all issues and made vehicle running in just 1.5 hour with $340 bill. These Guys dont know there Job properly. Manager changed the tone when I denied the service. Very Unethical behavior. Sorry to say guys...you have to change if you want to be in business in this competitive world. Do some quality business so that people can trust you.

Great service from the team at AAMCO Libertyville. I took my Ford SUV in for service after receiving an inflated estimate from another shop in the area. AAMCO did an assessment, and found out that not only was the estimate from the other shop inflated, but they had the wrong transmission for my vehicle on the estimate! AAMCO completed the work quickly and for a fair price - the next time I need work done on my car, I will go here first!

My visit to this AAMCO, was the best thing I could have done for my vehicle. After a series of misdiagnosis and unnecessary spending, i had been told that i needed to replace my entire engine to solve an issue I had that persisted. I was merely calling around getting quotes on labor cost for replacing an engine when I encountered the manager Harry Gonzalez on the phone. He was so polite, genuine and knowledgeable that I immediately felt a sense of calm and hope. He patiently and without alarming me told me the potential issues and his course of action on solving them. Needless to say Harry fixed my issues on my car and I will recommend this AAMCO location to anybody as I know Harry will treat every customer with the same level of politeness and competence.His approach gave me the feeling that he was dedicated to fixing my issues.

In August of 2012 we had transmission problems with our vehicle. We took it to AAMCO. They called and gave us an estimate on repairs. Then they called and said it was worse than they originally thought and they would have to completely replace the transmission, we told them to do the work. They had our car for 5 weeks, (when after many phone calls to them about when our car would be ready), they finally said we could pick it up. We picked up our car and paid $3,200.00. My husband got one block away from the shop when the car completely shut down. When we called AAMCO to tell them the car had quit on us and we needed towed back to them, they said we would have to get our own tow. We called our insurance company and got towed back. They had our car for another 3 weeks. We spoke with them on several occasions and called the district office. They had no idea what was wrong with the car. We finally picked up the car but had decided that we could not trust the work, so we took it straight down to a dealership and traded it in. We still owed $9,000.00 on the car, we got $5,000.00 as a trade in. We ended up loosing $4,000.00 there, plus the $3,200.00 for the repairs. Every time I see a commercial about AAMCO and how they fix everything, I feel sick to my stomach. If you use AAMCO after seeing this review, you deserve what you get. They make you choose one of their scores Poor-Fair was the lowest one. I would not rate them as Poor or Fair, they are horrible.....

I was sent to Aamco by my warranty comp. It was the best decision they, and i made. I was able to deal with a total professional that knew what he was doing and was talking about. Tom and his team took care of my car and even though it wasnt a transmission issue, they worked together on my engine issues to get me back up and running.. out the door. When we drove up to Libertyville from Florida to see our son graduate from Navy Basic, we never expected our 5 year old car to have engine trouble. We took it to AAMCO, told them our situation and they got us in right away. They kept us updated and even called Ford about recalls. However, several Ford repair shops I called would not be able to look at the car till next week (we have to return home on Sunday 9/22). Everyone at AAMCO was very nice, informative and understanding. We dont live in Libertyville, IL but I recommend taking your vehicle here for your vehicle troubles. Thank you AAMCO.

Tom, the Manager, was top notch. He was very friendly, open, honest and courteous during the diagnosis and repair of my 12 year old BMW. After diagnosing the issue, multiple options were offered and Tom shared the pros and cons of each option. I have always used a BMW dealership for repairs, but not any longer. I had my Jeep towed to Aamco Libertyville at 2am. William who manages this location answered his phone first thing in the morning and drove to me in Buffalo Grove to have papers signed to authorize the work. I was unable to get to Libertyville. The work on my Jeep was completed before the end of the day! I had a second repair a week later and again completed within two hours as promised. Location is clean, comfortable and the staff is super friendly and hard working! I am so happy to have met William! I know where I will be returning if in need of future repairs. High Recommend!!!! Our trans went out and we were towed to this location. We discovered that we had a warrantee that would cover it, and Aamco worked with that warrantee plan, so we just had it fixed there instead of towing to the dealer like we expected to do. Aamco was terrific and took great care of us. We would definitely use them again.

I did not like how the manager switched his tone and attitude when i told him i didnt want him to stay with my car. I live an hour away from where i work which is in Libertyville & the manager kept saying the car cant be drove you cannot drive it off this lot and i said thats not a problem i will call a tow truck. He then started trying to convince me that they would be the cheapest price and i toldHim i do not live in the area and the shops hours would not work with my hours in the city my husband can kee an eye on the car and make decisions and pick it up when necessary. After that he locked himself in his office didnt say anything else & then left the shop before the tow truck even arrived. Took it to a mechanic in the city for a second opinion and was told the car simply needed Transmission fluir & motor oil.

Tom the manager at AAMCO took care of me and i was treated very well i would shop there any time. I would take my car to him again and i will in the future, and also there shop was very clean ! Very Trusting its hard too find !!

I brought my Nissan 350Z in for an estimate. I stated I believe it was the Master slave cylinder causing the clutch to stick. I had done my research so I knew how much a repair should cost. When they estimated the car at $2000 for a complete clutch repair and they then stated to give a real estimate they would need to open up the transmission and it would cost 400.00 to estimate which would apply to a repair. I stated no way as I thought this was very high comparative to other repair costs. I then took it to Ripley Automotive in Waukegan and they fixed the car beautifully for 287.00 plus fixed the clutch pedal. My warning is beware as this seemed to way out of line on a base estimate.
