I bought my wife a bike and lost the receipt the same day. 😩 And the bike was damaged from the manufacturer. We couldnt tell until actually riding it. I got my mood together to deal with the hassle of returning it with no receipt. I even practiced my let me speak to your manager voice. A young man about 24 came up as soon as I walked into the store and gave me the best customer service. He helped me get a new bike down, walked with me to register, and explained to the cashier what was going on. I only had to swipe my card that I originally paid with. It took me maybe 15 minutes and I was back in my car. I was so confused in the end. Didnt even know what to do with the hour I set aside to deal with it.

I ordered some boots online at this location for same day pick up. I never received an email or a confirmation so I called and was told that the order was cancelled because they had not had them in stock for a while. I had no knowledge of this “cancellation” since I never received an email. The woman stated that the website inventory must be off. We REALLY needed these boots same day and I was charged for them. I went to Walmart and picked up some work boots there. Today I call again because it has been 24 hours and the money is still not back in my account. I spoke with Mike who was very helpful and said MY BOOTS WERE READY FOR PICK UP. They were waiting on me the whole time. I checked my email and still no email for pick up or a phone call or anything. I now had to cancel this order and go with the Walmart boots since they had already been worn. I am extremely dissatisfied with their customer service. Mike was apologetic but that doesn’t give me my money or time back and I’ll probably have to get my husband new boots in another month. I will avoid ever shopping here again if I can help it.

Great selection of Alabama fan gear and people who were working there were friendly. Thats says a lot these days! 🙂

Had everything that we were looking for. Was pretty busy when we were there,but check out was pretty quick.

They dont ever have a lot of options. They do have great prices for authentic clothing. But my issue is why dont they have more of the top selling items and/or sizes. Youd be better off just shopping online and get the stuff sent there

Horrendous service. I have yet to call the store and have anyone actually answer. No price on the item tags. One lane open for numerous customers. Ridiculously pitiful management and service.

On time with my order but wasnt to impressed or pleased with customer service rep at front entrance as he was rude n apparently hated doing his job unlike the young man who helped me load my purchases. He was very courteous and very helpful

Always a great place to shop for anything outdoors. Nothing is better than seeing, holding, trying on and getting your questions answered by a helpful sales staff. Just a pleasant shopping experience. Worth the 25 minute drive, everytime.

I did find what I was looking for (Adidas sportswear) but it was in very limited supply and not much Adidas to choose from after that. Especially nothing that matches.Sportswear and more specifically leisure sportswear has become a hot item and its time for sportswear companies to catch up and keep the sporting good stores filled with a better selection leisure sportswear.

It was good purchased what I needed; although stock in certain sizes were at a minimum or not available I managed to get what I needed.

I was able to purchase a mountain bike for my daughter this coming CHRISTmas. Hope she really likes it!

Good clean place and had what we needed

I ordered my daughter a outdoor play house online. The website said it would be available for me to pick up In store same day.My confirmation email said that it would not be available in store until a week later.When I tried to call and find out about my order nobody would answer the phone.I called every department and no answer.Sometimes it would just keep ringing but I know I got hung up on several times without even getting to speak to anybody.What’s the point in having a phone for a business if you can’t even answer a simple phone call about a simple question?Absolutely ridiculous I spent over $300 and after that experience I canceled my order immediately.I will be taking my money and business elsewhere from now on a complete waste of time.

A nice variety of items.A gentleman by the name of Josh at the door has OUTSTANDING customer service.Better customer service is desired when going through the store.Associates would see me, not speak, and never offered help. I would love to such change.

I was not impressed with this location or the people working here. I went to buy a rain jacket for my grandson who is going on a Scout campout. I couldn’t find anyone to help me. After asking the third person I was led to the camping gear. The first two said “we don’t have rain jackets, we have ponchos!” Finally a young lady led me all the way to the back and was very helpful. I saw other customers standing around waiting to be helped. I doubt I will be back.

Room smelled like a ashtray the pool was gross I ask 2 time to have light bulb replaced in the bathroom that already had bad lighting and no one ever showed up. I will not stay here again.

Helpful staff especially in firearms department

Fast easy curbside pickup ordered shoes at 7am had to be at work at 2pm made it to work on time wearing the most comfortable shoes and it took 5 mins

I can always find great value athletic apparel and equipment here. The associates are always friendly also.

Couldnt find anyone to help me in the shoe department, the one person that finally wandered in, said she didnt know anything about shoes, (but she was working in the department stacking shoes) and walked away. I needed help getting shoes down, one box of shoes fell on my head and she was still just a few feet away and just ignored me. I left..thanks for nothing Academy in Hoover.

They apparently do not know how to answer the telephone. I have tried every department even the front counter to no avail. Almost 20 minutes listening to the ring tone. I just dont understand. I know you can get busy with in store customers however you can still pick up the phone and politely ask the caller to be put on hold.

Whats not to like. Its Academy Sports. Tons of fun and outdoor activities for the choosing. Nowadays, family fun needs to include some exercise & I decided on a Frisbee. Everybody loves Frisbee! The staff was very nice & helpful as well.Thanks Academy!

Although the store was extremely crowded, there were plenty of employees to help us find what we needed in a number of departments. The reason I give it 3 stars is that it took 20 minutes to checkoutThat is unacceptable at any store of this caliber.

A cashier associate saw us coming too the first registerand cut the light off but when the white man walk up second later he cut the light back on and waited on him.

Academy Sports overall I believe to be a decent sporting goods chain, however this particular store is consistently poor at best.Inventory is a big mess. Finding products in the correct section with pricing is almost impossible. Just when youve finally given up the DIY approach and look for help, thats non-existent as well. To be fair and clear, this review is based on 8-10 store visits over the course of 2+ years. No, Im not a glutton for punishment, typically theres been a specific reason I had to trade with them.So, if you dont mind a store that looks like your dirty laundry pile, with no employees or management to help, never more than 2 checkout lines open (long wait), then give it a try.Lastly, Ive not once purchased an item that was priced below standard retail, so dont expect to walk out feeling like you just got a deal.

I just wish they had one around hueytown or Bessemer

I drove to this Academy Sports after trying to buy shoes at the Nike factory store. Nike factory store at a line at the door that wasnt moving. I was hoping to be able to find some shoes at Academy Sports but I couldnt find any I liked in a size 11 wide. Maybe theyre online selection is better

Bought a Traeger pellet grill but only a display model was on the floor. One of the associates named Jason went to the back to check inventory.. as the store was very busy at the time he came back and reported that there were 3 in stock but on the top shelf and would take just a little time get it down for us. It would have been easy for a clerk to say out of stock.. but he did a great job and also helped us load into my truck at the curb.GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE 👍

I went in to buy one item that I already knew they had. Only they sell it. I needed help to load it. It took one hour and twenty minutes. Abysmal staffing and zero leadership. The employees wear street clothes with no ID. The customer service counter was closed. Only one checkout with seven people in line during Covid. Get your act together Academy. This experience was deplorable. I will never go back.

Embarrassed is what the management of this store should feel. Traveled 3hrs to this store because they were the closest that had a particular shotgun in stock... waited 45 min to be rudely “helped” was put on a delay (not the store’s fault) so 3 hr ride home. Next day, call the store repeatedly for no one to answer. Finally an answer, put on hold and then hung up on. I’m done. This store is truly and embarrassment to the Academy Brand. 1 star because you can’t put zero.

Ask for Allyssa to help she knows her job. They had Nice choices and good prices for each pocketbook. It was a last mintue purches and i got what i needed.

Very bad customer service I dont usually care about writing a review but this store deserves it. I have tried calling the store over 10 times in the past hour and a half and I had no 1 pick up the phone. One person picked up the phone and I was put on hold for over 20 minutes and then the phone hung up I have even tried this in the morning and same thing very unsatisfied!

Good selection, prices are good, still out of ammo. Only one little suggestion would be to organize your clearance items, very often items are not on clearance but in the clearance rack. Good store with good prices

Need separate dressing rooms for women & men, door lock was broke and a man opened on my wife and she wasnt happy said she is never going back.
