The general store is fine. The three stars is because the pew-pew counter brings it all down. They have great prices but I took my money elsewhere to not deal with counter help cliche they have.

Tyler, who works the firearms counter, is one of the most rude employees we have ever encountered. Knowledge of products are fine but when the attitude pushes you to leave, sales decline. This is not the first occurrence so I imagine its not his first or last time treating people the way he does. Its a shame management doesnt acknowledge and correct this behavior. He was this way with multiple customers before us as well.

I bought a 2 pack of the micro LTE cameras and quality of the photos are terrible. The pics are blurry and the night pictures are washed out. I couldnt tell the difference between a Racoon and a Coyote. This is the same for both cameras. I couldnt discern a buck from a doe at night. I have tried multiple settings. I have $39 dollar cameras that are much better quality. You can purchase high def pictures, and you can purchase a membership if you want to filter species. All cost separately of course. It does email you pics, but I think I would rather walk in the woods and view the pics I can see, rather than ones emailed, at a cost, that I can not.

Was at Academy today and Shannon, the lady with the brown hair at the register had a bad attitude. Her customer service was horrible. She was just throwing the items everywhere while scanning them. They even fell on the ground. I would give zero stars if I could.

I just bought a Center Point scope for my Mouser M15 . I was helped by Tyler at the back counter and he was really informative and fun. I walked in knowing close to nothing about scopes and I now feel really comfortable/educated on the product and scopes in general. He took his time, was patient with me and my lack of know how and we even talked about other items and I ended up getting a gun case as well! He didnt push me to make a purchase I didnt need but took the time to educate me on what might best fit my needs. I dont leave reviews often but In this case I feel it necessary to share my experience, academy would benefit from more employees like him.

No face mask enforcement in this store, very overcrowded with long checkout lines. Didn’t find anything I was looking for and everything else was very overpriced. No plans to return to Academy Sports in Hickory, NC.

Didnt have many choices on the shoes in the women and girls. Seems like choices are leaning towards the guys department. Which I shop in as well. Overall the prices are very reasonable along with variety of selections. I Like the open space it has a substantial amount space to move around. Love it

I shopped here before and I was disappointed with the layout of the place and the staff didnt seem enthusiastic to be there and that made the shopping experience hard for me.

Awesome but little overpriced on some things they did have quite a bit of stuff on clearance overall good experience. Ran up on a few deals. I managed to pick the one shirt out on the clearance right that didnt have a price tag on it of course and they went through a lot of effort in trouble to get me the cheapest price they could on that shirt. I kept telling him they didnt have to go through all that effort and go search the whole store for another shirt like it to see how much the clearance price was but they insisted and they did. I was prepared to pay $10 thats how much I thought it cost but ended up paying $250 so theyre extra efforts saved me $7.50. Id definitely shop there again. Next time I may even bring a friend.

They have everything an outdoor-centric individual could ever want or need. Prices are reasonable for what they have and the brands. I was recently introduced to the new shoes offered by Crocs and I simply had to own a pair.

Go to place for any sport just be prepared to find it on your own! Never any help when you need it???? Last 3 trips staff never would when needed. Ordered athletic covid mask for adult had kids size when I got there and had to find adult size myself after being told it was all they had went pulled it off shelf myself.

Academy Hickory Management here is very caustic to Ammunition Purchasers. They stand there and watch you like thieves and treat you like something the wind blew in. People spend a lot of money to be limited and ordered around and made to jump through hoops. Ive been to Academy in every city for 75 miles and this is the worst upper managenent around.

Found a lot of deals. I had a return to deal with no problems. Store was well kept. Cashier was very friendly even told me about a couple of sales coming up soon.

Great place for anything sport as well as great clothes and shoes. Had to use the bathroom and it was lovely, custom toilet paper and soap. Felt like I was royalty.

I visited, specifically to buy a concealed carry purse. I knew they had the exact purse I wanted after doing some research online. The staff in the gun area were very helpful but it was hard to get help anywhere else in the store. My total purchase would have been bigger if I found someone to help me in other areasof the store.I am very happy with my purchase of the purse and gun holster.

Gun counteris terrible. They refuse to acknowledge any customer looking for help. I stool there for 30 minutes while three employees tried to check out another customer. Piss poor when it takes three employees that work in the gun department and have no clue how to check out a customer and enter his north carolina concealed carry card. When they finally got done with the customer they all dispersed and didnt even acknowledge me but they answered the phone on the first ring. I sat down what I had gathered across the store and walked out.

I am diabetic and I have rice paper thin skin on my lower legs. I went into academy sports in hickory to look for some sort of shin guard or protection for my lower legs to keep from having skin breaks which put me at high risk of infection. I couldnt find what I was looking for so I approached 2 associates Fletcher and Cameron. I explained what my concern was and what I was looking for to try to protect my legs. They both escorted me to a section of the store where they thought there might be an item to help. I got what I believe will be the perfect item to protect my legs. Look at the pic and you will see what I bought. I am so glad Fletcher and Cameron took the time to help me this really could be a life saving item for me.

The customer service is the best. I have no problem finding what I need. The store is super clean and its one of the only stores I visit where I dont have to worry about a dirty restroom.

Sales associate in Gun Department was rude and much to busy talking to a friend. When we did get his attention he had little knowledge of what was in stock. We will not be going back. I would put 0 stars but they would not let me.

Do not use the curbside pick up at this location! No one checks the computers. You wait with no information then still have to go in and wait some more to get your order. No apologies or care that they were not checking their system. Worst experience.

Always have what my husband needs in here Just this month they didn’t had my husband size in pants or boots ... but over all Is the best store in Hickory ( my personal opinion)

I went in to look at kayaks, and saw WAY TOO MANY people not wearing masks...including several employees. I left immediately and made my purchase elsewhere.

This was my first time at this store and I found it clean, spacious, and a great selection of clothes and all kinds of outdoors gear. I was impressed with the ammo selection and prices also. They offer a good selection of fishing gear and tackle too. If I hadnt been going to the deer stand Id probably have stayed for who knows how long. Ill definitely be back!
