My father had a charro suit custom made. It came out incredible! He looked very handsome and got tons of compliments. The embroidery was beautiful. There was a bit of stitching that was missed on the vest and the taylor came out of his way to pick up and deliver at the event just in time, which is highly appreciated. You dont get that kind of service anywhere. The shop itself has TONS of beautiful Mexican artisans items, it was fun to browse. It will be my go-to spot for sure.

The place is now owned by different people and while talking to the new owner, she said that they were going to introduce more clothing as well as keeping the Mexican Arts and Crafts. Lots of nice things to choose from.

If you are a collector of fine Mexican folk art and live in the Chicago area and beyond, I encourage you to shop at Escaramuza USA. Also, if you happen to enjoy rock painting, there is a new book available on Amazon.com called Rock Painting For Kids Mexican Folk Art Style, by Maria Sandoval.

This shop had the most beautiful tiles from Mexico, at reasonable prices (considering they brought them all the way from Mexico!). The owner showed us his back room which was filled with boxes of tiles. I was able to make lovely magnets with the smaller tiles (priced at 25 to 50 cents) and trivets with the larger 4 x 4 inch tiles (again, affordable at 1.50 each). Some of them had calaca images (Day of the Dead skeletons doing funny things)...and only for 60 cents. The owner had some of those beautiful Talavera sinks that Ive always admired in Mexico (and never knew how to transport home). Now I just need a place for a Talavera sink! Fun to browse, buy, and reminisce about visits to Mexico! Ideal after a meal at Nuevo Leon restaurant (not to be confused with the bakery--which is probably also good, but that isnt where we ate). And dont miss the National Museum of Mexican Art down the block. Impressive!
