Goldmine indeed. The facade of this building is pretty unassuming on Division Street, but theres an incredible experience inside. Every piece has character and style, and the people running this place actually repair and refurbish pieces before theyre sold. And they deliver if youre local! I WISH Id checked this place when I needed new furniture before checking Ikea or West Elm or any big box store. You cant beat the charm, the environmental benefits of shopping secondhand, the uniqueness of every piece, or the service and great people inside! Id heard great things about this place from others and I only regret I didnt hurry and visit it sooner. Im looking forward to bringing friends and family to this hidden gem when they visit the city. Attached photo is of the painting my husband and I bought the last time we were there, a 1960s Anderson abstract for an unbeatable price. Dont miss this place!

My favorite vintage place in the city by far. The owner is super personable and always has a story about the pieces in the store. Supremely fair prices and much more honest about the condition of things than youd get by buying online or at other premium boutiques. Ive bought a gorgeous hanging lamp from here and really look forward to stopping here when Im in the area. Shop local and support independent businesses!

Stellar store in the Wicker Park neighborhood. Everything MCM that you could want (and more). Beautiful space with a carefully curated selection of furniture and decor. This is not a thrift store. It is more like a gallery for lovers of mid century modern design. You will love the space and the extremely knowledgeable owner Jon.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Honest, helpful, knowledgeable and personable are just a few of the words to describe the owner of this hip retro/vintage shop near Chicagos Wicker Park neighborhood. Pre-pandemic, a friend and I had driven past Velvet Goldmine on our way to Wicker Park Fest. We always talked about wanting to go back and check out what lay beyond the interesting window displays. Finally got our chance to stop in last week, and boy were we impressed. Immediately we wished we had stopped in sooner! Velvet Goldmine has an entertaining mix of Mid Century Modern decorative items with a little something to fit every budget. We loved that the place feels very comfortable, not snooty. The displays are well lit & nicely organized; a pleasure to view and not dark and thrown all over the place like some vintage shops. What was especially nice was that the owner Jon was happy to talk with us and answer our many questions. In the end, my friend found a great side table for her living room and I have my eye on a particular abstract painting Ill be showing to my husband for our upcoming anniversary. LOL Thank you Jon for making our trip to your store such a fun experience. Velvet Goldmine and genuinely nice people like you are what make Chicago GREAT!

Easily my favorite midcentury modern shop in Chicago. I furnished half my house here! Their prices are always surprisingly fair. The more popular their place got, I kinda assumed that would change. But making MCM accessible to more people has been their promise from the beginning, and theyve stayed true to their word. These are really good people.

Easily TOP 5 vintage stores in Chicagoland. Also, a great vintage community member. The best MCM at very fair prices. (FYI recent negative reviews by disgruntled community member who was held accountable). Nick in Old Irving

I must confess I’m new to the vintage furniture scene so I was pleasantly surprised how fair and honest this business was in their pricing and customer service. They had a wide selection of perfect pieces for my new apartment and I can recommend to any vintage afficianado!!

The best mid-century modern and contemporary home decor spot in the city. The two owners scrounge all over the state and refurbish/clean up unique pieces on their closed days.Prices are still in the affordable range due to how they source their pieces. (Estate sales have a lot of expensive sentiment attached). Custom frames, glassware, accent furniture, and paintings galore.I highly recommend even just browsing their rotating collection to figure out your style and to pick up a bit of history. Or you can pick up something to flex on your annoying neighbor.

I always thought vintage meant expensive and used. Stopped in after seeing so many cute barware sets on their instagram and so grateful I did! I picked up a set of 5 glasses for $30 and a set of 6 for $36. I couldnt believe the pricing when I saw it! Looking forward to purchasing some more pieces going forward and supporting a local small business.

I strolled into Velvet Goldmine on a whim planning to look around and less than a week later, I had a new to me credenza. I had my eye on a new piece from West Elm but the piece I stumbled upon in Velvet Goldmine was only $325, I didnt have to put it together and Jon and Craig hand delivered it to me! Not to mention, it is build solidly. If you are looking for mid-century modern furniture, check these guys out! They are super friendly and accommodating.

Just bought a nice mid century piece for my wife. I made an offer of cash or credit, they responded with a reasonable choice on both and offer we accepted. Lots of nice choices by the way. My wife loves the piece and it looks great! Thank you for your negotiation and wonderful wall sculpture.

Wow - this place IS a goldmine! Went in this past weekend and scooped up the most amazing Danish chairs in pristine condition, along with a McCobb coffee table. The curation of items is oustanding!!The free delivery within in Chicago is a true perk, but the best part of the whole experience was the great customer service Jon and Kurt provided. They patiently told us the story behind each piece we asked about, which makes them now that much more special in my home! Thanks again guys! Will be back for more :)
