Very well stocked Japanese fish market and grocery. I visited today as a tourist; but this market compares very well to other similar places in LA, Chicago, NYC and Boston/Cambridge. Excellent selection of fish, seafood, dry goods, frozen foods, prepared foods, teas and snacks. If so lived in the area, this would definitely be my go-to Japanese market.

Fantastic selection of prepared and ready-to-prepare food and fish are the main highlights! Sashimi grade fish sold in giant portions, blocks, or sliced and ready to eat. Sushi comes out throughout the day regularly to replenish the reach-in fridge, and party trays can be ordered ahead of time for larger parties.Parking is a short u-shaped private lot off San Pablo avenue, which can be challenging but looks to cycle through rapidly. Will definitely be back soon to look for other seasonal finds as our new go-to store!

Fantastic mini Asian market. Freshest fish outside of the farmers markets. Any kind of fish you could want, some whole, some trimmed, and some sashimi grade as well.If you show up early expect to wait in line, for like an hour. Thats how popular the place is, worth it if you want the freshest seafood possible.

Today is a special occasion and I wanted to make a special occasion meal. looking for rare seafood ingredients I called this place because it usually has a reputation of stocking good seafood. after speaking to someone over the phone, she confirmed she had the specific ingredient, especially after putting me on hold for a couple of minutes to check. I drove 45 minutes to this place, and when I got there nobody had a clue.after seeking out the cashier who I spoke to, she gave a very unapologetic acknowledgment and moved on with her job. horrible employee that just caused this business to lose a customer.if youre looking for normal Japanese fare, this place should have it,...just dont rely on this place at all for any special occasion and definitely dont trust the cashiers to confirm whether or not they do have it.

Really friendly, helpful service! I was particularly impressed by an employee who saw me carefully studying the various wasabi options and took initiative to offer advice about the best one to get without me asking. Another employee at the butcher counter was also super helpful because I had no idea how much fish to buy for the sushi party I was organizing, and after listening to my parameters she recommended the perfect amount!Other highlights include: good prices for sashimi grade fish (make sure you buy it at the butcher counter instead of the pre-cut blocks for the best deals) + a great, well-priced selection of grab-and-go bento boxes/sushi made by the chefs at Musashi (my favorite Japanese restaurant in Berkeley). They even have real, fresh, locally grown wasabi root!

This was my first visit ever to the Tokyo Fish Market. We visited around 10:30am on a weekday and the line around the front took us nearly an hour of waiting to get into the store. Parking around the street in front of the store is metered (their own free parking lot is tiny and only holds a handful of cars), but there are some free spots in the neighboring streets, if one is willing to walk just a few minutes more.Once we finally made it inside, we were thankfully able to stock up on sushi-grade fish, as well as a few other groceries. They did a good job of limiting the number of customers within, and I didnt feel TOO cramped for comfort, although it definitely still gets cozy (within half a foot of people) around the fish section. I was relieved to find that their vegetables at least didnt seem too much pricier than I would give elsewhere. Otherwise, I was a little disappointed to find that they did not have thin-cut beef for gyudon, which Id thought could typically be found in Japanese grocery stores. The biggest disappointment, however, came after wed already left the store- we discovered that they had mischarged our purchase of some common white button mushrooms as shiitakeones instead, which are priced 3X as much. Its particularly lame because 1) these two mushrooms look nothing alike, and 2) the discrepancy in price for these are basically as extreme as you could get. Returning to the store and braving another hour in line to dispute this is a loathsome idea, and theres no email or website line to contact them with, so well just have to settle for this review. :( Im really quite upset by this move on the part of their employees.Apart from that, I loved the quality of their fish and really enjoyed my first sashimi donburi meal in months. It was pricey, but I felt like I did get the quality I paid for with my fish, at least.Unfortunately, I was really let down by the employees mistake(?) with our mushrooms and the super long wait, and ultimately dont see us coming back unless changes are made in the future.

One of the best in North America. I shopped there when visiting my daughter, summer 2019 (Im from Baltimore). Small place but excellent. Surpassed only by Seattles Uwajimaya, as far as Ive seen. The non-grocery shop is a little less good, but still has a decent selection of things----I suggest they carry more Japanese cutlery, especially non-stainless carbon steel.

I can see why people who want good Japanese style seafood and meat are so excited by this place. There is a wide variety of fish -- even NZ orange roughy. Ready made portions of sashimi, sushi and cooked food are available, as well as pay by the pound fish. As I stopped in on the way to dinner elsewhere, I couldnt buy anything substantial, but couldnt resist a small portion of hamachi sashimi -- six pieces for under 5 dollars. I found it a little fishy. Maybe I was unlucky and will risk a second try because there were so many people, I must have missed something.

Best Japanese grocery store on the area. Offers really good quality of fresh seafood. Staffs are well trained and know what they are selling. Some other Japanese supermarket may have larger store, but when you look at the quality, it is hard to compare with this spot.Store is closed in Sunday so dont waste time coming over on Sunday.Parking is a bit difficult due to the room of it, anyone drives large car or are nervous making small turns in tight space should just park at the large lot where the Dollar tree locates behind the store. You can walk through small alley from the back.Good selection of Sake as well, may not have much varietal as Nijiya or Mitsuwa, but there are some rare stuffs on the shelf.
