The best market/grocery store in Berkeley hands down! The staff treat you like family here, everyone makes you feel welcome and the food is incredible! I lived in Germany for a while and this market has the same European vibe I missed back in Munich. Get the fried chicken sandwich, you wont regret it!

First visit. Helpful staff. Lots of hard to find goodies and prepared dishes. Caesar salad and mac & cheese were tasty but pricey.

This place is lovely. There are quite a few choices for a snack or a quick bite. I love the outdoor garden (right outside of the imperial tea house), it is just so beautiful. I didnt eat here but went for a walk.

Always loved this place and 4th Street when living in Oakland. Great choices of dry italian goods or deli sandwiches. Kale salad is a must try!

They sell FARMED salmon from Scotland. Known to be highly toxic due to the feed and pesticides they feed them. Avoid at all costs. Shameful that they call themselves “artisan” foods

Excepting that the storefront is not actually ON 4th, the place is a delight. Options in hard-to-find herbs, spices, condiments, candied fruit and the like for the cook/baker are the best weve found in all the SF Bay Area; offerings in other foodie depts. were equally enticing.

I love going here when I want special delectable gifts. The people working there are very helpful and friendly. A lot of what they have is imported and/or artisanal and the prices reflect that. I look at a trip here as a special treat.

Good hot sandwiches and pizza and cold food bar. Bakery area and fine grocery items. Definitely a little pricey. They always seem to have very fine chocolate ($7 a bar!) if you are looking for something different to try. Outdoor seating area as well.

I love this place and their commitment to quality. They are working on being single-use plastic free as well. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Good food and selection. Kind of expensive. Sandwiches, both the hot and cold kind, are really well-made with good ingredients and good bread. I also catered a work meeting from here, and it was fairly easy to do and the selection of foods I could get in a catering order was appreciated by my staff and colleagues.

Everything Ive ever bought from Market Hall Foods (formerly The Pasta Shop) has been high quality. From their to go bar style meals to their teas, I have been delightfully surprised by everything Ive gotten. I recommend the spicy Thai tofu and the apple turnovers!

I always stop by here when Im in the area. The cheese varieties and selection are Beyond Compare. Pasta, rice, beans all the things a cook can appreciate you can get here. They also have a wonderful prepared food section thats now taken over half the store I didnt partake but it looks delicious.

Market Hall Foods Berkeley is highly recommended! Fresh made food and bakery items, so many unique high quality organic food ingredients, dry pasta, cheeses, marmalades, baking ingredients, etc. I will definitely be coming back again!

LOVE THIS MARKET!! Their salmon IS THE BEST!! Wouldnt go anywhere else! Their deserts and pastas are bomb too!! Im giving only 4 stars because they OFTEN run out of my beloved salmon. I have to be at work in San Francisco by 6am and get off at 6pm, so I can only get to Market Hall by 7/730... By then ALL of the salmon is gone. I mean GREAT! Good for them on selling out Lol Im being selfish🙈 I just wish they would make more, Or at least give customers the option to make a special batch if said customer is willing to purchase a full one....like me😝🙈Keep up the GREAT work!

Market Hall, the food emporium formerly known as the Pasta Shop, is chock-a-block with fancy foods. It is hard to get out of there without indulging in something wonderful to eat.

I just love this market. It is always a pleasure shopping over there. Food is really good and addicting.

Pricey but tasty. Sometimes a surpruse snack of grat tastiness appears and sometimes you find theyve stopped making an old favorite (I miss the cabbage almond salad. Hint hint.)Outdoor seating only and its often windy.

Good stuff but a bit too pricey. Okay to go there for special occasions. They stopped making the most delicious lemon tart ever. We are so sad about that.

I’m a picky eater, I asked for a sandwich WITHOUT all of the things I don’t like on it, the sandwich slip even stated “mayo, chicken ONLY”. When I sat down to enjoy my lunch, I was displeased to find the sandwich was covered in SLAW. GROSS! Too bad I only have a 30 minute lunch! PLEASE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS as all people are different and have different tastes and needs!

If there were beds, Id sleep there too...thered be no reason to leave. Wonderful all-around.

Cool shop, a good place to go for vegan food on 4th street. Not a lot of options but there are some, this is pretty much the only place I can go for lunch on 4th street as a vegan. Friendly staff 😊😊 usually pretty fast, except for if you order sandwich.

Came here for the chocolate festival in February. Great food finds, but a little pricey. Located in a fun, walkable area.

Ive had delicious pre-made sandwiches like the chicken club, chicken or beef turnovers, mushroom soups, pizza, and salads from here. The prices are a little higher than most places but the quality makes it worth it to me.

This Market Hall light really like a mini Market Hall. They have prepared food, sandwiches, and a deli, but the rest of it is the high quality (albeit pricey) pantry goods.

Its been the same now less staff for w/e, its survived cafes outside and Winnies passing.Great italia con international and local Choclatier s and deli unquestionably unique chicken stew with wine and many other including a twist on Avacado Toast less pricy than others. Egyptian spices, teas from Francais, Italia Italia sauce oils pastas and sauces, other hard to find cooking/eating items and another bakery within including a cheese monger! Lafayette misses ours. Come visit once BEFORE moving out of one of the priceiest areas if SF East Bay area.

More condensed selection than the Rockridge location, but more take out ready options for a quick meal and still lots of gourmet foods and ingredients to choose from.

I ordered a princess cake for my boss weeks in advance and called in periodically to make sure it is in system The night before -called again to confirm pick up time. Arrived at store around 8:30AM and was told cake was not there. It was coming from the Oakland store. I asked if they can locate driver or dispatch to see the status of delivery and was told it will be about an hour. I went and walked around and came back and STILL NO CAKE!!! I asked to see manager who was not in and asked if they can locate driver. I was told there is a frozen one they can give me. At this point, I was so late for work that I took the frozen cake. I asked if I should leave it out or in fridge to thaw. I was given instructions and I followed them. Came time to cut the cake-the center was still frozen, the cream has separated and it was a mess. I WAS SO EMBARRASSED as this was for my boss and co-workers. I no longer have any confidence in this stores quality or the way they conduct business. They charge an premium and the public should expect no less. VERY DISAPPOINTED

A great local italian grocery store on 4th st in berkeley great pasta, great sandwiches, amazing polenta pizza with a different pizza special everyday this both a place to shop at and come to eat and enjoy. dont overlook the sauces and spices this is not the same as you find in safeway or whole foods
