AJ, Vanessa, Ben and Jose were all super helpful and amazing yesterday when I bought my used 2013 Jeep Wrangler. This was my first time financing a car and I was nervous about being self employed and having a newer credit history. They worked with me to find the best deal and I felt extremely taken care of, respected, and communicated with in a transparent and straight forward way. For someone like me who has had a lot of anxiety about the car buying process, this was the most seamless and positive experience I could have hoped for. I got my dream car and also 3 years warranty from the dealership since the original had expired. I feel great moving forward with my new Jeep knowing that I have that coverage and knowing that I can afford my monthly payments thanks to them getting me the best deal! After over a year of looking at Jeeps and researching what I wanted and how to get it, I know I got a great deal and am eternally grateful for the folks at Toyota Berkeley for making my dreams come true.

I purchased a vehicle a couple weeks ago that had a recall, so I called Toyota of Berkeley on Thursday Aug 27th and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday Sept 1 at 9:00am to get the part replaced. When we called, they said they had ordered the part so the recall could be taken care of right away. We were under the assumption our car would be fixed in a day and had scheduled a trip the following Thursday. However, when we showed up on Tuesday Sept 1, they had no record of our appointment and did not have the part despite having told us on the phone they had ordered the part. I also asked them to check the tires as we noticed some issues as we drove the car, but they wont diagnose the issue until after they replace the recalled part. I left the car with them and called earlier today (Wed, Sept 2) and they still dont have the part or a diagnosis. I need my car by 1PM tomorrow, which is why I called ahead to schedule the appointment and ensure they had the part needed. If I had known this location was so disorganized I would have brought my car in elsewhere.**Edit: Jason from Toyota reached out to me on Thursday morning and escalated the process so the recall work was finished by Thursday midday. Despite the mishaps with the appointment, he was super helpful and kept in touch with me, updating me every hour on the progress of the car.

Be aware if this place. It’s not only a total scam, but an absolute dis-service to the community. I lost my keys and had called Toyota of Berkeley. They told me that it would be no problem, and to just have the car towed in, and it would be ready to go the next day. So the next day after I got it towed, they then tried to explain to me that the car needs a new “brain” and was going to cost 2000 dollars. I drive a 1999 Toyota Camry and that’s more than what it’s even worth. FOR A NEW KEY. It’s unfortunate that all my years of brand loyalty and pride for Toyota has gotten me absolutely nowhere with the company. As I returned to get my car, Jason was kind enough to leave my emergency brake on as he pulled my car out to the front. I usually go to a different Toyota dealership, but had a 40,000 mile service done at Toyota Berkeley on Shattuck 2 weeks ago. Immediately after the service, I noticed a noise when braking, like the sound of bicycle spokes clicking. This noise happened about 50% of the time when braking, which I heard could have to do with the wheel not being installed properly (worst case scenario it falls off while driving). I returned to Toyota Berkeley to address this issue. They were unable to find out what caused it. I doubt that this noise had occurred previous to the service, but I let it go. Then today, I found that my glove compartment would not close. So, back to Toyota Berkeley and they say to come back next week for an inspection. While exploring the glove compartment area on my own, I find out that a piece of plastic from the cabin air filter system (which is behind the glove compartment) had not been put in correctly and was blocking the glove compartment from closing. So it seems when Toyota Berkeley did the 40,000 mile service, they carelessly neglected to put things back together so I spend my free time coming back for a range of minor (and possibly major) issues! Come here if you dont mind having potential things come up and having to go back again, for what should otherwise be routine service. Needless to say I cancelled my upcoming appt with Toyota Berkeley and intend to stay away. I informed the service representative about what I discovered and she had no response to my concerns. I have yet to hear from the manager. I went here because I thought Toyota Berkeley had good reviews, but be careful, it seems other reviewers have had similar experiences which point to unreliable service--hopefully it doesnt happen to you.

Only criticisms I have is they dont have a car wash aka they wont wash your car. Also on the receipt for the oil change, the task list says vacuumed interior and cleaned windshield which they definitely did not do. Other than that, its a nice place with free coffee, clean restrooms and a nice waiting area with couches and TV so enjoy your stay. Just dont expect them to clean anything related to your car.

I was in Berkeley California the other day and I had a Toyota related question so I did a search on google and found that there was a Toyota dealership right on Shattuck which was pretty close to my location at the time. I headed on over there because I figured it would be easier to ask this question face-to-face versus over the phone and I also like to check out new cars from time to time so I figured the best way to get that part done was to go in and talk to the salespeople. The car dealerships in Berkeley are different than most other dealerships because theyre really integrated into the city. In most cities that I have been too, the dealerships usually take up like 14 acres and they are also way off the beaten path. Toyota of Berkeley is no exception and their dealership is located right on the main drag on Shattuck which is a couple blocks away from Cal State Berkeley. They have two main rooms and the first room has some stairs that go up to some offices and theres a little lobby off to the right when you walk in the front door. One thing that I thought was pretty cool was the Aqua colored couches in the showroom. Very Cool! The other room is a showroom and one thing that stuck out for me here was the material they used on the floor it was kind of a stone like material and I looked really cool. This room also housed the bathrooms and they had one of those dyson had dryer things which rock! I wish every business in America had these things cause they REALLY get the job done!! :)After I completed my trip to the restroom and scan of the inside of the dealership, I walked around the building and looked at the back lot. They had a big garage door that lead to the service department and they had some inventory here. I am guessing that they have another lot for the rest of the inventory. It was really cool to see the dealership connected to other stores like the optometrist next door. Also there were these big awesome old school houses right across the street from the back of it and ]like I said its really neat how they integrated the dealership into the neighborhood I thought that was very impressive. After about 10 or 15 minutes of roaming around I got my question answered and I was on my way.

This place is terrible, I wouldnt recommend it to anyone because they never act in your best interest and only want your money. I went in recently (Ive been a few times before) because my Prius had the oil maintenance required sign on. I have synthetic oil so I only need an oil change every 10k miles, but this light goes on every 5k miles. I went in to ask them to turn it off until the next 5k miles. The guy told me that they couldnt turn it off without doing some sort of repair (not true). I asked for an inspection and he said the cheapest they offered was $90 dollars!! (again not true ->). I knew that the Santa Cruz Toyota offered free multi-point inspections so I was confused. I took a second, looked up the coupons on their website, and saw that they did actually offer a free multi-point inspection, despite him telling me the complete opposite. I told him to do the inspection for free, he looked angry and didnt say anything. They did the inspection but still decided not to help me out and turn off the maintenance light, which im sure wouldve taken 10 seconds. Then, my radiator light went on maybe a month later. I looked under the hood, there was no coolant in my coolant reservoir and the coolant hose to the radiator was completely unclamped and hanging loose, causing the coolant to spill out on the ground (see photo). These hose clamps really tend not to come undone by themselves and Toyota Berkeley was the last place to have access to under my hood that entire time. They easily could have loosened the hose clamp. So do with that what you will.

I financed a used car, spending upwards of $6,000, including putting down a $2,000 down payment. I was thus very surprised when I took it to the Dodge Dealership in Fremont, where a dealer appraised the car at a value of $500. He told me that I had been appallingly overcharged at Toyota of Berkeley. Then, after only six weeks of driving the car (gently on my thirty minute commute to work), the car overheated. I took it directly to a mechanic who did a thorough test that cost me $75 and I replaced an old radiator cap for another $30. The mechanic said that the car likely had a “blown head-gasket” or a “cracked engine casing” and that I could no longer drive it safely. These are repairs that require the disassembling of the whole engine, a labor-intensive process that normally costs upwards of $2,000.The head manager at the Toyota Dealership, Rudy Padilla, sold me the car personally, and told me that his was a reputable dealer and that “they only sold cars in excellent condition.”Knowingly or unknowingly, however, Rudy had sold me a car, that according to four mechanics I spoke to, should not be having these sorts of problems at only ~77,000 miles.I very much expected the dealership to be able to repair the car at their shop, or to pay for the repairs, or to settle my loan and take back the car, keeping their good word and maintaining the good reputation that they claimed to stand by. Rudy said that he would personally look out for me, even saying that I could think of them as “my family,” and that I should come to him if anything went wrong. With these words in mind, I expected the dealership to be able to provide some assistance, because after all, here I had spent $6,000 on a car that doesn’t work, or as some might say, a piece of junk.I was stunned and dismayed when Rudy said that the best he could do for me was to buy the car back for only $2,500, AFTER I fixed it at my own expense. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to fix the car or pay back the full loan in order to sell it, so I am voluntarily surrendering the vehicle to Wells Fargo Dealer Services. I did everything I could to minimize my risk by choosing a so-called reputable dealership and spending enough money that I hoped to secure a reliable and re-sellable car. I did not expect to be sold a Lemon of a car and then be shamefully turned away by the very people who said they would be looking out for my best interests at all costs.Do not buy your car here!

While I still paid a lot, $300+, for oil change and other service including brake fluid exchange and 30K mile maintenance. For the 30K mile maintenance, I dont know whats exactly included in this package. If it means the multi-point inspection, it is included in the regular maintenance package which costs no more than $70 in other states. By the way, they didnt even help fill the windshield washer which costs less than $4 for 1 gallon (see the attached picture) after maintenance. My wife just went to day for the regular, FREE, check up of our 2 year old car (3 years of FREE check ups are included in our purchase price and THEY KNEW IT) and they tried to fool her into believing she needed to purchase a car care package starting at $400. They never ever tried to do that with me. One would think that misogynist cheaters are not that common in Berkeley.

Toyota squeezed my Priu in for two light bulb changes in their very full Saturday schedule so I could use the car that evening. The cost seemed exorbitant $150 for one front and one rear but they explained that on all makes of new cars its very hard to get to the front headlights. Why?My next question was whether to or not to get an extended warranty on a 2007 Prius with very low mileage. I found both the Service manager and the Finance Officer straight forward and helpful in discussing the various options.
