I want to give it 5 star ✨, being a co-op and all, but its not a very exciting grocery store to visit. Many shelves are bare(maybe theyre shuffling things or re-stocking) and its not well lit in the evening. Could have a few more cheeses for my taste. But the employees were very friendly and helpful and it IS a co-op.

I used to love to go here (and also send all of my friends) because they have the best selection of bulk herbs in town. Now the system is difficult to work with though and the bulk room is no long open to browsing. I don’t find it a useful place to shop for herbs any more.

RUDE!!! I Can not believe how rudely we were treated upon parking. We parked in the handicapped spot due to my fathers double knee surgery. As soon as we exited the car we were yelled at from an employee that we couldnt park there. He said its parking for the Co-Op only. I indicated that we were going into the Co-Op and the employee scoffed and stared at us. My mother even went inside and the employee was rude to her and ignored her. It was stomach turning. We promptly left.

I am madly in love with F.B.F.C.!! Comparible prices, Great variety of LOCAL ORGANIC PRODUCE. A large variety of Organic NON GMO products. The Food Coop as I endearingly call it, has a wonderful plethora of items for vegans, as well as those who are a far cry from vegan. Theyve an ENTIRE ROOM DEVOTED TO BULK HERBS, DRIED MUSHROOMS, dehydrated fruits, bulk grains, coffees & much more.. I wanted to make sure I mentioned the Bulk Herb room because believe it or not, I had made several visits there before I realized that little TREASURE CHEST was just sitting back there, waiting to be noticed. Once I stepped thru that door, I became theirs.. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.. I completely& utterly fell in love. 💚😮AN ENTIRE ROOM DEVOTED TO BULK HERBS OF ALL TYPES!!😮💚 I know that this may not be as exciting to certain ppl but for ME? I just dont have the words to describe how HAPPY just being in that room makes me😊... SO!! IF youre in the downtownAsheville NC area & want to check out a great store, head over there. F.B.F.C. is right across the street from Wicked Weed & Orange Peel in a brick building, next to LaZoom.. Their Staff are a group of really great knowledgable people that wont hound you while youre in the store but are more than happy to help you when you ask.. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND F.B.F.C. to anyone who lives an organic, non gmo, raw, natural, vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. But I recommend F.B.F.C. to ANYONE at all. It is an experience unto itself & it will definitely be memorable👍✌

Funky vibe. This place reminds me of my 60s college days in Boulder, Colorado. Ravi Shankar music and all. Quit an eclectic collection of foods, herbal remedies, and bulk foods. Great selection of food if you are trying to avoid the carcinogen laden big brand labels. Do yourself and your family a favor and start treating your body like its the most important thing in your life. Eat better and you can do that here. Take the time to buy locally sourced produce like they have here and cook solid, whole food. Stay away from assembly line kitchens owned by corporate pigs that dont care when you get cancer from the preservatives and artificial ingredients they serve you for a 1.99. Start at the French Broad Food Co-Op and keep Asheville local and healthy.

I love this store, it has all the bulk items and teas and herbs I need and I love that, but when I interact with staff and ask questions they seem to be annoyed by that or act like they don’t have time to talk to me. I would hope employees working anywhere would be encouraged and enforced to engage with customers and make them feel welcome, but I guess that didn’t reach the Co-op. I generally just try to avoid staff and I’ll google the questions I have so I don’t have to have rude interactions with staff. Aside from that, I am a big fan of teas and herbs and love the section in the back, and I love the bulk seeds and grains and granolas. :)

I try to shop at the co-op when I can as they are local and carry great bulk and the best produce hands down. On the flip side of the goods offered is the customer service. Expect long wait times when checking out and employees who chat or avoid helping alleviate the long lines at the register. I have been a long time shopper of the co-op and never felt very welcome or welcomed to be there so perhaps that is the accepted vibe there to start.

French Broad food co-op has everything you need in a local health food store. Organic and fresh. I enjoy shopping here and the prices are comprable to other health food stores. They are a volunteer run cooperative benefiting the local consumer and vendor community. They feature fresh, organic vegetables, homemade lunches and salads, a hot bar, herbal and tea apothecary, bulk grains, vitamins, supplements, tinctures, bath products, organic dried goods and canned goods as well. The French Broad Food Co-op is a local non-profit grocery store that features ALL organic fresh produce, much of it from local farmers and proprietors. I can find lots of local products there too and the bulk section is excellent! I bring my glass jars, weigh them to tare, fill up and label. Nice and easy. Local flours, coffee, grains, granola, and every herb Ive ever heard of or needed and more!I love to buy local eggs here, and Field day house products. The meat and fish selection is limited but definitely available. Theres a good selection of local breads from Owl bakery, and others. There are hot and salad bars available, though rarely impressive, definitely better than Earth Fares.I certainly wish they would allow public recycling, especially for members. I live outside of those zones. All my waste goes to the dump now because its illegal to try to recycle. A compost program would be awesome also. Hopefully with the new store.Im looking forward to the expansion process, and what it can do for the community. The co-op business model rocks!

I love this place for so many reasons i dont know where to start - they are my go-to for ingredients when I make anything, from Chapstick to dinner. If you care about the origin of the things you buy and use and eat, this is THE place. Its the only store I miss when Im out of town, especially the bulk room with hundreds of herbs, powders, roots, you name it - all alphabetically arranged. I like to use my own glass jars (weigh them before adding the dry goods and write down the tear weight). Then there is the selection of products from local farms - dairy, produce, etc. This place is very highly recommended.

Ive been here twice so far. The selection of natural and organic products is great and the bulk section is the best in the area, especially for herbs and spices. However, the first time I went here I was overcharged by $18 for sweet potatoes because they entered it manually and accidentally entered the price and weight as the same numbers. I never received a refund because I dont go here often and lost track of the receipt in the 6 months I waited before going back. The second time I was here, I bought a snack for my toddler and it tasted old. It ended up being over 11 months expired. The store itself is great, but there are some issues that need worked out.
