I first took my GMC to sunset Auto for a problem that no other auto shops could fix or deal with the problem. I went to sunset and Ronnie said leave with me and let me see what we can do. Ronnie and his team diagnosed the problem fixed it and communicated through out the whole process. I love the service.

Whenever Ive had issues with my 2009 AWD G37X, Ronnie and his guys came up with practical solutions and backed up their work. They do the routine work and specialize in the problem issues that can befall older vehicles, like electrical with Infinitis over 100,000 miles. In a nutshell, SA means fair prices, no BS, great experience in auto repair and Ronnies strong network of other automotive professionals and parts houses just a phone call away. If he can get a used part to save money, he does it. Sometimes, its nothing more than good advice on an item thats putting no money into their pockets. You call up SA and you get an answer or else Ronnie says Ill call you back and he does just that, 10 minutes, an hour, later, with the information a customer needs to make an informed decision. My G37 has over 130,000 miles on it and I am confident that with SAs reasonably priced help, Ill continue to drive it for years to come.

Ron did a great job! I brought my car in for an alignment and to patch what I thought was a leaking tire. After performing the alignment inspection, he was very straightforward about the repairs my car needed, explaining how each repair and replacement would affect the quality and safety of my drive.I never felt pressured to accept the work and he worked with me to get the car road safe in a matter of days and at a reasonable price. I knew my car needed some work done as my drive was not smooth and I could feel every bump in the road, but didn’t know where to start. The cost of the inspection was applied to the repairs and he worked with me to source used parts (aluminum wheels) that would drive down the cost of the repairs. He even buffed up and coated the wheels to give them a nicer look even though I was completely fine with putting them on as is.He started working immediately and followed up with me after I picked up my car to make sure I had no complaints or issues with my drive after the repairs. Ron takes a lot of pride in his work and he was very honest with pricing, giving me estimates and asking if I wanted to have the repairs done in piecework to make it more financially viable for me.In the end, my car needed all four wheels, front struts, and front shocks replaced as the wheels had been bent from the worn out struts and shocks that originally came with the vehicle (it’s from 2006). My catalytic converter had completely rusted through, I could actually smell exhaust every time I turned my car on, so that and the pipe connecting it was replaced. No more exhaust smell in my cabin! Finally, he mounted my tires, balanced and rotated them, and then I got my passing alignment! My “leaking” tire was actually just losing air from the wheel rim bending.

Glad I stopped they have fast service and the east coast guy there tells you how it is straight up with no bullsh*t. Hard to find people like that now. 10/10 will be going back for all my tire needs.

The starter on my 79 Corvette died so I started to call shops to see if they could fit me in their schedule. When I called to make an appointment with Sunset Auto, I was expecting that I would have to wait until a few days later for my car to be worked on as it is an older model and they may not have the parts in stock. To my surprise, they were able to take me in as a walk in with no appointment. Within an hour, they had diagnosed and given me a quote for the parts and labor. Ron the manager told me that they would have to order the part and then install it when they received it. They called me back within another hour and a half telling me that the work was done and that I could come and pick my car up whenever ready. I was very happily surprised that the work was done properly and so timely. I wholeheartedly recommend Sunset Auto to anybody in the Lake County area looking for proper and timely work done on their cars of any age.

Ron scheduled time for me to bring vehicle in and upon arrival he was personable and provided the service I needed. Ron and his team shared recommendations for other services needed and explained why (problems I was aware of). The service time was short and I received exceptional customer service from Ron and his Team.

I Took my car in to get a alignment and I couldn’t of been happier with the service I received from Ron and Marvin. I Will not be taking my car anywhere else except for Sunset auto. Ron is a trustworthy guy and tells you straight forward how it is. I took my car in there and told him upfront, “Look I know nothing about cars.” If I would’ve told any other mechanic that in Waukegan they would’ve had money in their eyes and try to price gouge me and make me spend as much money as possible, Ron did not. Sure there were other minor problems with my car but he told me what needed to be fixed now and what could wait instead of racking up a huge ticket of thousands of dollars. He looks you directly in your eye and tells you how it is and he is a straightforward guy therefore I can tell you that I trust him and that is hard to say about mechanics. I highly suggest anybody reading this review take it from me and bring your car to him and you will be happy when you leave he even called me after I got my alignment done to see how my car was running which shows he cares. It’s hard to find straightforward people nowadays that are not out to get vulnerable people that don’t know about cars and since Ron didn’t do that to me he has my complete trust in my car. Had an issue with my sons car that we thought was the rotor. Was able to make an appt and get my car in first thing in the morning. Ronnie was great. Called me as soon as they figured out what the issue was and discussed a plan to fix it. He knew it was my sons car and looked over everything else, realizing that it would benefit with an oil change, which I knew it hadn’t had in some time. I asked him to check out one of my tires which he did and we worked out a plan with a great price to have my tires replaced. The service was great, not pushy or in anyway trying to get me to get things changed that my car didn’t need. Was invested in making sure it was safe for my son to drive in the winter. I have been to other places that just add on services or add on charges without explaining. This place is great! Will definitely come back in the future!! Fast service, convenient, and to the point!

Was in the market for a used Volvo and took two over to get inspected. They were extremely thorough, looking the entirety over from front to back. I looked up the parts he had replaced on my car. he 3x charges what they go for, and charged me 105 bucks an hour of labor. took two hours to complete their hard work then kept my car for two days after they finished working on it. I was charged 1300.39 dollars, this was the Waukegan shop, I cant vouch for these crooks at the other locations but avoid Chris like hes the plague if you go to them in Waukegan.

This is an amazing shop with great mechanics who know how to fix and repair problems at an affordable price. I took my car to a local dealer when the brake light came on and the estimate was over 1400. I was tempted to scrap the car because it had 200K on it. After talking to Ron I decided to bring it in and they fixed it for $375. He knew what the dealer estimate was so he could have charged more but didnt. I am now a dedicated customer and highly recommend this shop you wont be disappointed.

Used to live close and trusted Ron and the techs with my vehicles for oil changes and engine replacements, brakes and many other items. Live 30 miles away now and still come to Sunset. The work is stellar and Ron does an excellent job explaining everything along the way.

I had brought my 03 trailblazer in for issues with my front end making squealing and the power steering was leaking. Ron, the manager treated me kindly and courteously. The mechanic was very thorough and found the issues and was able to repair/replace all necessary parts very reasonably. The shop itself is very clean. I live 25 minutes away and this shop will have my future business. Thanks to Ron and the mechanics, I can drive my blazer and be safe.

Went there because i tried everything with my 2003 crv to get the check engine light out. One attempt and sunset auto was able to diagnose the problem and make recommendations to repair it. I followed their recommendations and the repair was successful. I was finally able to pass the emission test.Sunset auto not only made recommendations to correct my emission system, they also identified other things that were wrong with my car. The staff was amazing, efficient and very respectful. I will definitely go back and will recommend them to everyone i know. Keep up the wonderful work ..

Took my car to Midas for a free inspection and they quoted me 800$ to replace my exhaust manifold. I called Sunset Auto Repair and they did a free inspection to confirm the problem and also gave me a free ride home lol. Quoted me 200 less than Midas and finished the repair in a few hours. Beyond happy with the service. Youre definitely in good hands here!!!

I love this place! This was my second time going to Sunset Automotive in Waukegan. Both times I had had excellent experiences. I like that they take you to your car so you can physically see what is wrong with it. You are more than just the car repair you bring in, they genuinely care about their customers safety, which is fantastic. Flor & Jessica are AWESOME! Both are very personable, super nice & very knowledgeable. They have helped me both times I have come in to find the best possible parts for the best possible price. The parts that have to be ordered for my car have come in quickly - the same day or the following morning. Excellent shop! I went for flat tire today. within 30 minutes, they put spare tire on my car. showed me the nail damage on my tire and explained why its not repairable. Called me later for the best replacement cost they can find. everything is excellent. Highly recommended.
