Best Childrens Consignment Shop in the Greater Des Moines Metro! Great selection, fair prices and helpful staff. Wont make a lot of money selling them your old items but when you make a purchase you usually save quite a bit over retail!
Very disappointed with how the store owner speaks to mothers of children who have any kind of behaviors. My eldest (5 years old and recently diagnosed with ADHD) had been quietly watching my mothers phone through out the store while my mother and I shopped. When we were paying my child started having a melt down due to the amount of people in line waiting to check out. Which happens occasionally and my sons therapist said is perfectly normal for an adhd child. I put him in the cart while we finished checking out so I could get him outside quicker to finish the calming down process. Whilst I was paying the owner of this establishment came up on the other side of the cashier telling me that my son couldnt be in the cart and that one of us had to take hime outside because he was disturbing the other customers. I replied I will as soon as I finish paying which he did not like all while my 5 year old is screaming. Anyone who has children or babysat understand that trying to calm down a child while upset yourself is pretty redundant because it is unefficient due to them recognizing youre upset. I was so upset and embarrassed that I broke out in hives after and cried while trying to calm my child down outside on the bench of the table. He proceeded to garrass my mother inside and try to refuse her service whilst the checker was ringing her up. I had several people that were shopping at the store come up to me and apologize for the owners rude behavior while I was outside. So the community its located in is amazing. I just wish the owner understood that some children are going to have behaviors and being rude to the single Mom with four children whos just trying to get them winter clothes is not the answer.
Its a wonderful place to find great clothes for kids of all ages!! I love that they support motherhood!! I did recommend however that all store clerks keep a smile 😁 when children present with parents. They have a great selection of teen clothing as well.
I love this store! I like the fact that they don’t make you wear masks. If you wanna wear one, cool. But if you don’t it’s fine. Their clothes are cheap. Definitely my favorite place to shop for kids clothes !
Good customer service and great prices
Came in for the first Time to get rid of some of my sons older baby clothing, everything in the store as well organized, staff is quick and kind, I dropped off two bins and not even 20 minutes later I was told that my items were ready to be picked up. Gave me more than I thought but wished I could’ve had them take a little more( but will not be picky)
Everytime I’m in there, maybe two times a year, the staff are so unfriendly and they pay you close to NOTHING for your items. I fold my clothes and have them laid nicely in the containers only for the. ToGo through them and toss them back in. I’ve had to many poor experiences... I will NOT be back.

Prices are extremely high for secondhand clothing. Bought a few things for winter and then went to Walmart for cheaper clothes. Second hand t shirts shouldn’t be $7.50 for a 3 year old. Lots of used pants for $10 also
This is a very cute store and I was impressed with how well organized and clean it was. Unfortunately, most of the customers and employees were not wearing masks so I will not be coming back anytime soon.
The curbside pickup option is amazing. I just message the store with a list of sizes and items and the next day my order is ready for pick up. So easy and affordable. So glad they have this option. Id spend so much more money on clothes without it!
They like to low ball you when buying your clothes. I will not sell my stuff to this place ever again not worth wasting gas.

Very poor customer service I donated my baby high chair and wanted To donate more items. But the attitude of the lady was like so not professional no smiles not welcoming at all I kept whatever I kept and moved away.Staff Should know how to respect customers specially if Im just giving away my items for others happiness.
Fair pricing when selling clothing (they have to make a profit) and their clothes are priced decently as well. Some clothes you would expect them to purchase they do not, often difficult to determine what to expect. Usually end up donating a fair amount. Always pay attention to what theyre in need of to reduce what youll end up hauling for no reason.

One of the best childrens consignment stores that I have found in the area. There is lots of product to choose from. Boots, four dozen bins of shoes, rows and rows of clothes, costumes for Halloween (seasonally sold), racks of winter coats, racks of snow pants. The staff is efficient and friendly. The variety and quantity of items sold is amazing. The product available for sale is good quality as well. Highly recommend this place for anyone with a child under the age of 5 or 6.
Very impressed! This store is bigger than I imagined and had such a great selection of everything I needed. The employees are super friendly too. I’ve found my new favorite shop for my grand babies!

This my first time at Once Upon A Child and I was very pleased with my experience. The workers greeted my family and I when we walked in as well as helped us find what we were looking for. I was happy to find sooo many clothing options at a reasonable price along with toys, highchairs, cribs and much more! Will be returning for spring clothes!

Their 2 bag limit was.... well unexpected... were a large family and when we take in new to gently used clothes we expect to have them take more than only 1/4 of your trade ins. Some of the clothes we had brought in literally still had tags on them.... but still enjoy shopping at OUAC but this location threw us off...
Everyone there was super pleasant. Always helpful at answering my questions, and love that they have a sense of humor! I also think its lovely that they will donate the items they wont accept for you!

This store is great if you are looking to buy or sell items for small children. They have a very large selection of clothes, well divided by size and color. They always have lots of toys, and even a good selection of used shoes.Unfortunately, while they will buy used items, they will often reject items with little or no explanation as to why. If they could provide a better explanation why they take some clothes but not others of the same quality and type, I might be willing to give 5 stars.
Fiance and I had went the other day after having lunch, looked around found some clothes for our son that were in really good condition for a great price, happy we went in because he needed some more warm but light clothes that fit him around the house. Will go again once he grows out of these clothes or when we have our second.
I use to love once upon a child, but then I took my clothes in so they could go threw them. When I took them there, they were organized folded nicely into boxes by what they were and more. I returned for the money they offered me and picked up my clothes. They were just thrown in bags and boxes now. It was unacceptable how the clothes were returned to me.
This place is great. You cab take in your gently used baby items and clothing and they give you cash for what they can resale. Anything they cant use will be returned to you or you can leave then to be donated to Goodwill. Its very clean and organized. A great place for shopping for your children as well.
Everything in the store was sorted and clearly marked. There was room to move around and it was easy to identify the different areas. What a great improvement since my last visit. The staff was very helpful.
They have the cutest clothes. Almost everything is pre owned but a better quality than you could find at a thrift shop. Some of them still have the original tags on too

They rush through items. They tell me 90 minutes and theyre done 20. Go to get the stuff they didnt want and you can tell most wasnt looked through, items were in the totes, the same way I put them. I ask them what was wrong with the items they didnt take and they had to go and check it out and see. They should have been able to tell me then unless they didnt look at it the first time. The employees werent friendly. Dont offer to help you carry the multiple items back to my car. (2 large packed full totes). Dont thank you for coming in or ask you to come again. They may have a sale here and there but Id rather pay more somewhere else where I get good customer service.

My daughter & I love that the clothing is sorted by size, style, and color. So, when we needed size 10 grey sweatpants they were very easy to find! This is her new favorite place to buy clothing.

I dont always feel Im given fair compensation for what I bring in, but they always have any efficient process and they sell quality items. Great place to go for dance shoes and Halloween costumes.
We drove 30 minutes to the store only to find out we were ten minutes past the time they except clothes. There was no where on the website that said they stopped accepting clothes at a certain time and honestly we didn’t have the extra gas to drive all the way there. The guy working asked how much we had and was willing to work with us but the “buyer” said no we were too late. If you are going to only accept clothes at a certain time I would recommend stating that on your website.

Wide variety of items for a growing child. Well organized clothing sorted by gender, size, and color. Unfortunately, the smell is unbearable. They will buy some of your gently used items. When they do, they inspect them and determine value. This process should include odor. Clothing washed with scented detergent or softener needs to be rejected. These toxic chemicals often cannot be removed by any amount of stripping or washing. If you care about the health of your child, do not buy second hand items from any seller if they have a lingering odor, and do not buy wash products that contain artificial fragrance.
Great place to recycle your kids genitally worn clothes for quick cash. Fair deals and a huge selection of clothes for kids of all ages and pregnant women alike. One of my favorite spots for kids clothes.
Always find great deals, sometimes even brand new clothes! And have been able to sell a few things too, although usually still leave with full tote. Highly recommend!

The employees here offer consistent helpful information with every visit.The products are very reasonable in price and excellent in quality. The new location they moved to in the last year offered the opportunity to spread out and show their wide selection.This store is totally worth your first stop when looking for clothes for your children. You wont be disappointed.
I will never go back to this store. The staff was extremely rude, I must not fit their West Des Moines mold. I waited around for over an hour for them to reject almost all of the clean, gently used childrens clothing that I brought in. They wanted to pay me less then $20.00 for ten pairs of shoes and a target dress. They acted as if I was bothering them for even being in the store. With so many other options for kiddos, save your money and your time. Go some place else.

I have shopped here but have not sold them any items. The staff is usually not friendly or welcoming. Lots of items in the store but its easy to see which sizes they have trouble keeping stocked because the selection is much lower quality just so they can keep the appearance of full racks. They sell brand new car seats for the same prices you would pay in stores like Target and Walmart for the same brand and style. Even with its flaws, I still walk out with lots of items super cheap. Today I spent about $95 and got 28 clothing items and a few sippy cups. They have a pretty good rewards program and limited time deals.
The staff wasn’t helpful at all. They have a lot of merchandise but for every good item you find you have to go through 15 not so good.
I love buying clothes here but, as others have said, the staff are not happy you are there. If you bring your kid(s) you’ll get the stink eye and if you try and sell them clothes they’ll toss most aside like you’re trash and offer you next to nothing for what they take when a lot of the stuff on the rack is questionable- will shop here but will not “sell” again.
I enjoy purchasing and selling items to yhis business! However, it isnt a consignment shop, they buy outright which is perfect for me! Cash on the spot if in need or in store credit.

Really like Once Upon a Child. A step up from thrift stores, and much better organized with a better selection, and clothes that are in great shape are half or less than half typical retail prices. My wife and I have both bought and sold in the store, and been very happy with the experience.

I have been to a lot of childrens consignment shops in a lot of cities and this is by far my favorite. They have a lot packed in to a small space (Im excited to see the new location with more space). They have great clothes and great toys. The staff is always helpful and friendly. I always stop by on my way through town.

I have been shopping there for almost 5 years, they have great price and nice selection however, the employees (let’s be fair, not all of them but most of them) are very rude, unhappy and extremely unfriendly. To be more exact, because this time I made sure to get her name, the lady named AJM, extremely rude!I will never step there again and I will make sure to spread the word to all my friends, we moms don’t need to be dealing with rude people while trying to shop for our little ones.My husband once dropped a box off there and had the same bad experience. So it is not just one day, it have been several days.

To me they must be pretty picky or should i say they think it must be maceys my daughter took out a tote of really nice clothes of aspens they only took a few of them and then a box of shoes and lil boots some not even worn and they didnt except them.some of the shoes they have over in the totes shouldnt of even been excepted.i was very disappointed.
My daughter got my grand baby like 6 pair of cute sandals there today and only spent $12

A staff member told me that my child couldnt touch a toy unless we were buying it. The toy was $1.50 and smelled like cigarettes. Another staff member also accused another child (not my own) in the store of moving a stroller to the front of the store when he actually didnt. I have been to many Once Upon a Child stores and this staff just seemed uptight and unprofessional. To not be able to touch or hold a toy unless you pay for it is a bit extreme, especially considering this is a second hand store. This was my third and LAST visit to this consignment store. I would recommend Kidding Around consignment store in Clive over this store any day. Kidding Around has a better staff and inventory all around.
We have gotten many clothes and baby items here for our now 7 month old, and lots of good clothes for my 8 year old. Prices are reasonable and clothes they offer are in good conditions. We go in a couple times a month and the staff has always been friendly and helpful.
I love that they organize by color. But frustrated when I bring clothes in to sell and they dont take them because they found a tiny flaw, but then I find all sorts of stained clothes in the racks....

I am so disappointed. I used to love this store so much. I came here and spent hundreds of dollars and received alot of point multiple times. I came in to sell my bassinet and couple other items. On my way in with the bassinet a nice lady made the comment that the bassinet was really pretty my mon said to her, you want it? And the lady looked to me and said how much? I was shocked. This wasnt my plan. Right away the manager came up and asked us if we were conducting business in his store. My mother replied no. As initially she was just joking. This man snottily looked at my mom and said I heard you and you need to go outside and shoed us with his hands. He said we will not take anything else from you ever. I was so embaressed that words still did not form out of my mouth. They were joking im sure. Even if not I was there to sell my stuff to them. I will never step foot in this store and I will encourage everyone else to stay the hell away. This man was aggressive. Thank you for ruining my experience with this business.

Great place if you have a child. Since they grow so fast. You can get new to you things while unloading things you no longer need. The staff however seemed bothered by my being there.
I love this store! Its a great place to shop for gently used and pre-owned products for children. They are also quick and friendly when bringing in items for resale. They give a very fair price (cash) for your items that you bring in and are very selective with what they chose. This is my go-to store!
Great selections for every price range! I have been shopping here for years. They have become so popular that they out grew their location and moved to a more spacious shop. You can find kids clothing for next to nothing or pay a bit more for name brands that are close to new.

If youre going to consign here, dont bother. I have given them several tries and have left disappointed every time. I see whats on the rack and I have no idea how they decide inventory. (I find old clothes with spots and defects far too often.) And their prices have gone up. Perhaps others have had better luck, but I have now gone elsewhere and been much happier.

Love the clothes but I will not be coming back snobby and rude employees and like another reviewer said they paid me 20 dollars for a BRAND NEW KOLCRAFT stroller and 19 pieces of clothing another issue they have is they try to steal from you they twice mixed up my items with another womans items then fought me about it when they couldnt correctly identify what type of clothing or size or gender I finally got my tote and my clothes back I left immediately after in tears and I felt so ashamed and embarrassed that I had to fight with the employee in front of other customers but I wasnt going to let somebody steal from me and I felt like I had been ripped off the clothes I brought in were name brand and worn once maybe twice with no stains rips or tears I paid almost triple what they paid me for them just to find out they jacked the price up on the clothes like 4 or 5 bucks when they paid me a dollar for them. Shoppers beware great clothing I will ONLY be shopping from them I will not bring anything in for them and I hope they get better employees
