My favorite place to get records, Graywhale always has a great selection of new and old records. They even have some rare ones if you ask. their website is also really handy, you can search for what they have in stock or when it would be in stock. The staff is also very helpful and friendly, they always offer to order a record for me and hold it until I can get it.

Member since 1989 as of recently every time in store I feel as if I’m bothering staff, and just today asked to excuse staff while he was putting away stock, not to bump records on counter while searching thru “junk” promotional posters. for years try to shop local…..no more, treated much better in big stores, goodbye Graywhale, hello, AMAZON, TARGET, WALMART, free shipping, great inventory, and better prices. oh yeah and they will actually be glad your shopping with them, and appreciate your business!!!!!

Its my home away from home. Im at the point now as to everytime I go there, I usually spent over 100 dollars. The addiction has become so bad that some days youll see me on the corner of the freeway with a sign that says, please help, I have a greywhale addiction, God bless! Dustin, the manager is like my brother. Everytime I go in, I make him feel guilty till he gives me a discount, which he does, cause I wont have it any other way. I just dont think its fair that I have to spend my hard earned money on gas to get there and have to pay full price. NO WAY, thats just not gonna happen. On a serious note, It IS my homeaway from home.

I love Graywhale but the isles are too narrow for handicapped or strollers. Excellent selection of movies, collectibles, CDs and Vinyl music. Social distancing difficult due to isle width. They either need shelves that rotate vertically or need to expand. Their concert ticket refund strategy is somewhat dubious. Ive been coming here for years and hopefully will for many more. Buy local. Support artists. Ive even purchased local new music here. Fun place but needs slight improvement.

I hardly ever write online reviews but man Graywhale is a gem. If you are looking to buy or sell used records they always have the best prices of any record shop along the Wasatch Front. Guaranteed. Everything I buy used is always marked higher on Discogs and I consistently get better resell value on things I sell. Also they have an awesome and knowledgeable staff who are super friendly. Hands down the best record shop in Utah, and that goes for both locations. Some record shops who I wont name will take advantage of you. Graywhale always treats me right. For example, one time when I had a record that could better be sold online, they let me know.

It took me a while to find that perfect record store (for me) in SLC but this is definitely it. They have such a great selection of used vinyl that’s very reasonably priced. One time they ordered a record for me, it sold out after they received it, the price skyrocketed — and they still sold it to me for the original price from when I asked them to order it despite knowing that the record was now in high demand. The staff is friendly and they were very well organized for one of the Record Store Days that fell during the pandemic. It may be a bit further away from downtown but it’s worth the drive.

This store is amazing. Great products available from a warm and welcoming staff. All the staff is knowledgeable and many have specific fields of expertise. I can rely on them to find albums or CDs that I want. If they can’t get it, no one can.The most amazing thing for me is how much everyone on the staff truly care for people. They pride themselves in making everyone know they are welcome. The only exception I’ve noticed are prejudiced people or misogynistic folks. They should probably stay away. This is one of my favorite destinations in the salt lake valley.

Today was a somber day as I have picked up my last record ever from Graywhale Entertainment. My relationship with Graywhale started in 89/90 at the Taylorsville store. I was 15 and had just started a job at Central Park, which was not far from the T-Ville store. I remember going to cash my check at the grocery store and thinking I would just stop in and see what was new. Now, my paycheck was a whopping $50 and that was a lot of money for me at the time. From the second I opened the door I felt like a member of the Graywhale family. I was instantly treated like not just a customer but a kind of music student for the people that worked there to impart their vast knowledge upon. The owner came out and said hi, told me I was welcome anytime and never treated me like the punk 14 year old that I was. They would often give me advice on what to pick up as they began to commit to memory the type of music I would purchase. This continued almost weekly for about a decade. I bet in that time I spent close to $50,000 on music at Graywhale. In my late 20’s my spending on music had slowed down some, though never completely stopped. I was married and started a family so music became less of a priority. I need to backup and say that I purchased a membership way early on, maybe 1989 or 1990, a few visits after the first. When I purchased the membership, which was a paper slip, the promo they gave me was in essence they would discount the item the amount of sales tax. The tax was still getting paid, the item was just discounted the tax amount. This was supposed to be a lifetime discount as the membership was a lifetime membership (one of the reasons I bought the membership!)Fast forward to last week...I was in the area so I thought I would stop in and see what kind of used stuff they had come in. Due to COVID it had been a couple of months since I had been into the store. It wasn’t busy at all and I didn’t see the people I was used to but I picked a few items and went to pay. The cashier rang everything up and looked like he was struggling with something so I asked him if everything was good. He said when he pulled up my membership it showed that taxes weren’t being taken out. I explained to him the situation, as I had done several times to other employees and managers throughout the years. I had never had an issue with anyone about this before. They would just say well I guess we need to honor it. That’s when jerky boy, who I assume to be the manager, stepped over and said “We will not honor this ever again”, “it’s a wonder we’re still in business” and “that’s against the law”. He preceded to treat me like an idiot and condescend me for another few minutes as they were finishing up the transaction. If I hadn’t prepaid for a record that wasn’t available until the next day I would’ve never gone back. So, with all that I am saddened that my time with Graywhale is over. However, now I don’t have to overpay for music anymore!

Last Friday, I had the urge to find a copy of a cd that was at one time stolen from my wifes car. As a good little consumer, I checked Amazon first. They had it for some crazy ridiculous price. I decided to try a different route. I tried google shopping and the first site that popped up was Graywhale Entertainment. They had the disc for a reasonable price even though it is out of print. Needless to say, I wanted another copy so I jumped on it. I ordered it last Friday morning and I had it by Monday. ( So much quicker than Amazon) I have no complaints, the product was in great shape. A small detail was that they also sent a sticker along with my receipt. I thought that was cool. Although I did not visit the store personally, I can definitely see that they are customer oriented. I cant wait to check out their store next time I drive through Utah.

Graywhale has been around for a long time. Although as of last year they had to close my favorite location. The one that was inside the old house how sad. But luckily the stores that are left are a lot of fun to go into. With cool music always playing used and new music to find records are back. These folks will check invantory of other stores and if they have it they will have it sent over. I think what give them a five star is its a music store a local store and thats a harder and harder thing to find in this city of salt. Thanks greywhale..
