They are always friendly, genuine and welcoming. There are lots of instruments that can be played—you may find folks playing bluegrass any given day. The repairs are quality, somebody is always smiling there, and I always leave happier whenever I get a chance to visit.

Recently had work done by Fretwell on my upright bass. The turn around time was very fast as I was only in town for the week. The repairs were fixed excellently. Those working there were very nice to work with and very knowledgeable. Definitely will drive back here from North Carolina if I need any more work done.

I stopped by and they were closed playing for an event downtown, I suppose I snuck in when no one was looking.Anyhow they have a pretty nice selection of string instruments, large selection of strings and much more Im sure I just didnt have the time to browse much, however on my way out I encountered whom I presume to be the owners and despite them preparing for their next set they still took the time to chat for a bit which weighs huge in my eyes because I could tell they were near frantic, and hustling for the next set.Absolutely going back to follow up, and Id reccomend you stop by too

Very friendly and knowledgeable service! The new owners are Grateful Dead fans, hence the various skellies hanging around! Interesting story of the silver metal bass instrument in the display window - used in the 1930s on ocean liner cruises. The metal bass instrument was more durable in the salty ocean environment.

I haven’t actually bought anything here yet but I love to just walk around and see all of the beautiful instruments they have and try them out. They have things that I haven’t seen anywhere else so I definitely recommend this place.

This was a neat stop while in Staunton. This shop specializes in acoustic instruments, especially stand-up basses. Although the selection was limited, everything appeared to be properly set up and in good condition. Theres also a large repair facility in the back of the shop. As a bonus, they have instruments specifically set aside for jam sessions, which is a really nice touch.

Bought an Englehardt from them a year ago. Great place, good selection of new and vintage basses set up a ready to go. They guarantee everything. Lotsa nice Kay basses. If you play bluegrass / rockabilly bass and are anywhere within a days drive, this is the place to go. They have stuff not on the website, best to call ahead - talk to them about what youre looking for - they can make sure its set up properly, and arrange a day. That way you dont have to make multiple trips.

Exceptionally friendly staff and fair prices. I took in a cello to be serviced, and Travis made adjustments to it and educated me on how my son can properly maintain all parts of the cello.

Peerless selection of stand up bass instruments and service plus a lot of great guitars, mandolins, ukes... and a great place to jam! Friendly staff!

Good selection of basses, unfriendly staff. I bought a bass from this shop at a bluegrass festival years ago and was excited to visit them in person. I came expecting to buy a new banjo or uke bass. But when I walked in, the staff completely ignored me and when I tried to ask questions, they were very short with me. I wont be back.
