I made a reservation for a stylist I had used before. She showed on the website that she was available for the date and time I needed so I made the appointment. When I arrived the stylist wasnt there but having made the trip I went with the stylist assigned. She acted like she couldnt wait to get me out of the chair and did not even blow the clippings off my clothes.On top of that the stores credit card machine wasnt working and had quit the day before. No sign was posted indicating cash would be needed so I had to find an ATM to get cash and return to pay.Not a good experience overall. It only takes once and unfortunately this location showed a complete lack of professionalism and lost me as a client.

Used to be their loyal customer for 2 years but due to careless behavior of hairdressers have to find another shop. They can see you only when its convenient for them not for the customer, they never call the customer back after they are busy, but when they cut your hair, always pick up the phone and waste your time without any apology. Avoid this shop or try then agree with me

Probably one of the worst cuts I’ve ever had in my life. I could’ve done better with a Flowbee at home. In addition to that, the store is a bit sad and defeated - reminds me of a ghost town. They generally have about two depressed hairdressers in there at any given time. It might be time for a career change guys!

IF YOU WONT READ IT ALL:Went in to take 4 inches off curly lower back length hair and walked out with about shoulder length hair. Didnt part my hair until she trimmed my bangs. Watch out for the older Asian woman if you have long hair.Extended Explanation:To ladies with long hair, be wary of the older Asian woman. I have had hair down to my butt since I was a little kid, with the exception of a few haircuts to my rib level.I needed about 3.5 off the ends and asked her to add in some long layers. I walked out with hair to about the middle of my arm. Now, I have curly hair so its even shorter after I let it dry, a few inches past my shoulders. She didnt part my hair until she got to my bangs, which makes it difficult to give a symmetrical cut.My hair does feel extremely healthy, but I dont know what to do with this new short/bob-like hair I have. Itll take me months to grow this out enough to do something with it.

Mally B. was great! I haven’t color my hair since November 2020, so first we did a consultation where she walk me through the best colors base on my hair type, I showed her what I wanted and she was so nice. The place is super clean and they are taking all the Covid 19 precautions. My hair was pure black and we did partial highlights for the first session and will be retuning to light them up in 3 weeks. Hopefully I’ll get to my blonde goal. They also do eye brow wax, I did that do super smooth! Would recommend providing clients some champagne to make it more pleasant. Haha! ✨

The Hairstylist “Ken” fixed my hair perfectly. I wasn’t happy with my hair. But somehow he managed to fix my hair where it felt comfortable again. Thank you Fantastic Sams

I got my hair cut on the April 6th, by Rosemary Judiz, and it was terrible. I wanted my hair layered and evened out from my grown-out asymmetrical bob. But the job was sloppy and rushed. She didn’t even even-out my hair correctly. The funny thing is she said she used to work at a weave-shop, she used to charge 35 for a cut. I wouldn’t pay her a dime to wack at my hair like this. Avoid her. The picture posted is the photo of my hair after Rosemary walked at it for 15 minutes. So, I went back today to get my hair fixed. Lan, another hairstylist, fixed it right up and it looks so much better. Thank you so much Lan!

Crystal is by far the most talented hair stylist Ive met. I showed her what I wanted and she told me that wouldnt work for my hair and actually gave me a cut thats much better than what I asked for. She styled my hair and gave me so many layers. Not only that, but a lady that she helped before me walked out with beautifully cut and colored hair. Crystal gave this lady perfect silver color. Shes really the best!

My family and I have been going to this particular Fantastic Sams for a while. It was always hit and miss The employees are nice but you never knew how your cut would end up i went on last week and met the new ma aver and area manager and they were awesome. My cut was amazing, and she even trimmed my goatee without a hassle. I felt that there was a breath of fresh air in the shop. I felt that my family wont have to worry about getting a bad cut. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for anyone to go. Even if you used to go give them another try. Ask for the manager to cut she is amazing

I brought i, a photo on my phone to show what I wanted and I left with what I wanted. It was a clean friendly place without pressure to sell products.UPDATE 3 MONTHS LATERMy highlights are fresh and bright because I use the recommended products for upkeep. My hair is soft and natural looking as it grows out in the style I asked for. I love my longish bangs that can be pulled to the side and hidden and my part is so versatile. I love my volume and softness. Plus I am happy with not going with layers so the lineIs sharp and crisp and slanted.I Signed a paper to not use a toner. It worked out fine otherwise I was going to be charged an extra $35 with the $52 groupon paid by my son for a mothers day gift for me. I hated to tell him it was going to cost another $35 to get the highlights! So I took the chance and did not get a toner and my hair is beautifully even and the shade I wanted then and now. But be warned about it. I plan to do it again next year the same way.

I came in to cut my hair and donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and Michelle did an awesome job from start to finish. She went above and beyond to make my donation a big deal, taking before and after shots and sending them in a photo collage to my phone after I was done. What a cool, thoughtful idea! Also, I had brought hair ties to use for the donation ponytail, but Michelle let me keep them, and she used hair ties from the salon instead, which was a nice little touch. She used a ruler to measure the length, double-checking to make sure that the amount met the requirement and putting my mind at ease. Finally, I had forgotten to bring a plastic bag to put the ponytail in after it was cut, but she gave me one. Talk about stellar customer service!After cutting off 10 inches for the donation, Michelle gave me a sweet haircut, exactly as I had described. I was super impressed by the whole experience, and I would highly recommend Michelle! A+Side note: They do charge extra for long hair, but Michelle told me about the charge in advance, which I really appreciated.

Great place for a budget hair cut. Dont expect a red carpet treatment but they are fast and efficient and the staff is so friendly and kind. I appreciated their recommendations for my hair and Im very happy with the results. They also do a rewards program which offers discounts. I believe they also do a student discount.

These people always offers Groupon coupons. Check them before you visit. Nice and friendly staff. They did my cut three way I told them to cut. Satisfactory service

This place is awesome. I went there early in the morning and it wasn’t super busy. My hairstylist was Vi. It was my first time there and it’s kinda nerve wrecking getting hair cuts at times. I told Vi what I wanted and she really took the time and patience to make it look nice. Vi was also guiding me on what she was doing and each step she takes. That makes me feel better. One thing to keep in mind is that if you’re getting a haircut from Vi, she’s really petite and it helps to slouch down a little so she can get a better view lol.

I got a haircut from a lady named Andrea. She was amazing! I had long hairs and wanted to make them really short (from a traditional style to a really weird look) and she did it with so much grace! I could see how passionate she was with what she was doing.. And the best part was she was discovering herself all through out. This has been an awesome experience. Also, this is my 2nd haircut with Fantastic Sam, La Jolla. I was equally satisfied the 1st time I went there. This place is cheap and provides quality service. I would definitely recommend.

LAN, the Asian woman, is fantastic. Best haircut ever. Ive paid 3x more for worse haircuts. She definitely knows her way around hair!

Did it happen to you at Fantastic Sams - University City, San Diego? You were asked to leave the store when you complained?Horrible customer service??? Avoid???Today, I went for a haircut there. After about an hour in waiting, when I inquired, Gordon told me that I am next in line. Then, after an additional 30-min waiting (total 1.5 hour waiting time), he called another person while I was just standing right in front of him. When I asked why he did not call me, he replied if I want a haircut, then I can have it now. Otherwise, he asked me leave the store. I asked for an apology from him but he refused to give one. Instead, he repeatedly asked me to leave the store if I did not want a haircut.

The lady that cut my hair got upset because I asked her to cut my hair a little bit shorted than what she did even tho she asked if it was ok. And then she didnt follow at all what I wanted (I showed pictures) I wanted something angle I got something straight and she finish my hair cut super quickly without showing me the back of my hair cut! terrible experience I dont recommend this place at all!

Terrible experience multiple times at the La Jolla location. Uneven buzz cut, charged more than I should have been, so many missed hairs. The lady cutting my hair said to a customer before even starting my hair cut “don’t worry I’ll be less than 10 minutes”

Awful salon. Every time I go in its different people working and they never seem able to keep a stylist for more than a couple months. everything was very dusty and you can tell nothing had been deep cleaned in a long while.

I previously recorded a video with 360 pan of the haircut I wanted on my own head of hair after it was cut 2 minutes ago, but the hairdresser was unable to recreate it. It was a video instead of a picture, on my head instead of someone elses, and it was literally minutes after the haircut. With all that information, they still did a poor job; it wasnt a hard haircut either 🤷‍♂️

So there is a Groupon going around that is very popular right now. You can get a nice cut for about $10 which I have not seen a better deal so far. The employees seem to know right away that I came because of the Groupon (probably because Im a college student) but that did not stop them from doing an amazing job. It was my first time and like trying out any new place, I was nervous about losing all my hair. I had Gordon and not only did he do a great job, he was also good listener. He even took the time to explain the lingo to use next time I ask for a hair style. I went on a Sunday afternoon and the wait was not very long. Groupon was a great deal and motivates me to give bigger tips!
