I feel like the place I visited and the one I’m reading about in the reviews are two completely different places. No acknowledgment whatsoever of our presence by the staff. Just a sad place. Didn’t find much that was interesting and the building itself is in a pretty bad state of disrepair (we visited on a rainy day and had to dodge ceiling leaks and drip buckets throughout). I’m not sure how this place remains open?? Must be surviving off of booth rent alone.

One of my favorite stops while visiting Ruidoso. I have found so many treasures while visiting there in the past stops. Items including one of my most favorite fly fishing reels, to my daughters love for vintage clothing items found. My name is Roger Browning and I love spending my time in Ruidoso. I am a Texas rancher and writer and have written many novels to myself over the years. I was discovered recently and my first published novel, The reckoning of Rance, is currently out on amazon for sale. It is a story of a modern day ranching family that has endured the unstable dysfunction that often trails that type of inherited lifestyle. Maybe more than one would admit. Now let me tell you about this store. I walked into the Emporium some years back when my daughter was much younger than now. I stumbled across a vintage typewriter there and we, my daughter and I played with its keys and typed a little note in its testing, then left. Just last fall, we traveled back, just my wife and I and made our way back into the store to look around. We were staying in one of the mountain cabins and I was typing out the sequel to the Rance novel, when my typewriter quit. In the Emporium that day of our revisit, low and behold under a table hidden behind some cloth, was a typewriter. A 1958 olympia, with still original inked ribbon attached. There still as we left it was the note we had typed out years earlier, Kermit the frog....Kermit the frog, and our names. I picked up the typewriter brought it to the front bought it, cleaned it up and finished twenty more pages of the sequel to The Reckoning of Rance, from inside our mountain retreat. The owners of this store so friendly and their dog, a big friendly brute, was their equal in affection. I will never pass this mall when visiting the mountains, it is a wonderful place to see. Thank you both and I cannot wait to see you. Upon our return.

Had a good time going thru the emporium. The entrance is very impressive with huge logs and the bar was so interesting. If not interested in bargains, just go for the history of the building. Would loved to have seen pics of it in its hayday. And they also have a good flea market.
