What a great, centrally located market in Rochester. Many wholesome foods to choose from. If they dont have exactly what Im looking for, a suitable alternative can be found. The bulk section is remarkable and saves money on basic staples. A pleasant grocery shopping experience.

Recently got into baking sourdough bread and I’ve been looking high and low for a good bread flour. Went here and asked who was their supplier for their bread flour, and to my surprise they get their flour from Central Milling, one of the best places to get strong, quality bread flour! Will definitely get my flour from Abundance Food Co-Op from now on!

Unfortunately the store management thinks it is ok to let employees go without a mask if they choose to do so. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) very strongly recommends that people wear masks indoors in areas of substantial or high Covid transmissions. As to why Abundance management does not follow CDC guidelines and/or believe in science is beyond me. Also dont bother to voice your concerns with the staff, they dont listen (or pretend not to listen). I am blacklisting this store until further notice. Which is really too bad, because other than their laid-back Covid policy its a great store...

Abundance is the best local food store in Rochester. The products are vetted for high quality and sustainability and the staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The prices are competitive with comparable quality. The bulk department is varied and allows you to get just as much as you need. Members get access to special deals, monthly discounts off your total purchase on the day of your choosing, and access to bulk ordering. There are products to support every dietary need. They have even increased their selection of prepared foods. If you havent been in yet, then check it out!

I love this place. I love the staff and I love the custom products. I just need to talk about the tempeh Ruben wrap for a second. Why would there be bread and butter pickles inside of a tempeh Reuben? These pickles completely destroy what could otherwise be a decent wrap. There is no warning I couldnt even eat this thing after picking the pickles out. It was permeated with that sweet bread and butter pickle juice. Please please please for the love of your customers remove those terrible pickles from inside this wrap.

Downtown Rochester and its immediate neighborhoods are a classic food desert. To find any market, let alone a market with fresh produce, let alone a decently priced organic market that would not be out of place in San Francisco or Boston, is a gift.Curated but comprehensive selection of foods, household, and supplements. Plenty of seating to eat your hippie snacks and relax.Great find!

UPDATE: They called back and remedied the situation. They were very apologetic and sincere.I called to place an order (this happened twice) and was put on hold for about 5 minutes, until the line was disconnected. The employee said he would be right back to take my order... I called 4 more times spacing the calls a few minutes apart and no one answered. I called yesterday, the day before yesterday as well, and got no answer. This is very disappointing because my family and I have been long time abundance customers. We love their products and what they stand for. I sincerely hope that the quality of their customer service can improve.

Rochesters cooperative grocery its doing well in its new location. While there have been legitimate causes for disappointment with how the move was handed, I want to support our grocery as it as, and the new grocery as it is has many features to recommend it including many varieties of Americas established alternative brands, a beautiful fresh produce area, and a larger seating area. Im a big fan of the homemade soups!

You can pretty much get everything on your supermarket shopping list here. Over the past couple of years they have lowered prices significantly on basics and now offer a generic low-price line of organic items. AND they are now offering many non-natural supermarket basics.Their prepared foods section is really superior and always have vegetarian and vegan options. Their soups are always wonderful and you can get real authentic bagels. If nothing else, you should go to Abundance for their bulk spices and herbs. They are absolutely the freshest in town and you can get only as much as you need. Because you know that cardomom in your pantry is five years old. This is where you get your next batch. And the cheese selection has grown quite nicely! And, of course, its a co-op, which means that the profit doesnt go to billionaires- it goes right back to the staff and shopper/owners. Moreover, no other local grocery comes close to offering as high a percentage of local farmers and producers as Abundance.

Limited but decent selection for its size. Convenience for people who live nearby is probably the biggest advantage. Has some good vegan/gluten free/etc options. Overall, its a great place to shop if you want to pay 25-100% more on your groceries in order to subsidize local hipsters.

Very good I was here the first time. All organic and natural foods. I love the org. Produce and fruits. They give 1.00 for entertainment dollar spent on the produce section only. Its worth it, matching the $1.00 to SNAP customers. I just wished the eating- in section was open. The coffee in back of store is weighted beans I love this!! Wegmans used to have weight your own coffee, not anymore.. the items are a little. High, but theyre a bussiness Ill support, caz it supports local farmers too... Very earth loving conscientious..

The co-op is a great place for specialty dietary items like organic, gluten free, or local farm foods. They are a small co-op and so the prices are a bit higher than a large chain which can buy in massive quantities, but Abundance is trying to be more accessible to all folks in every socioeconomic bracket. To do this they offer a couple different programs for people with lower income, and bonuses for SNAP users buying whole produce. They also have a great bulk section with a good variety of spices,, and even with Covid-19 safety limits, you can still buy the popular bulk items in pre-packaged bags and containers. I miss being able to only get small amounts of exactly what I need for foods I only use occassionally, but I cant complain that they are working to keep us healthy and safe. My boyfriend loved the vegetarian options in the cafe, and still checks the cooler for premade take-home options that are great quick meals when we are out on the bikes and went further than we planned and need to refuel!

Just had the absolute worst experience at Abundance. My 12 lb Boston terrier and I live right around the corner and we loved to walk there, quickly grabbing a few items and leaving. My Boston terrier is a well behaved, emotional support animal, with a certified letter that I carry with me at all times. She and I have been going there the last year and I have ALWAYS held onto her; never allowed her to walk on the floors as I understand not everyone is comfortable around animals. My dog and I have always felt welcome there; with a sign on the door to the affect of, “We Welcome Everyone” and no other associate in the last YEAR having an issue with my dog being in my arms....until today. Like any other day, I quickly walked in to grab an item (with my dog in my arms) and was stopped by a man named, Pete. Pete stated, “only service animals are welcome in CO-OP” and when I explained to Pete she was an emotional support animal and asked him if he would like to see my certified letter, he said no. Pete then proceeded to make a back handed comment and say, “I think service animals and emotional support animals are different. But I’ll let it go.” I was so taken back, as no other associate has EVER said a word to me about it before. Pete then made me feel so belittled for having my dog with me; Pete then proceeded to make it sound like he was doing me a favor by allowing me to buy the one item I came on for. I asked if Pete was a manager, and confirmed he said he was. Having worked in customer service for over 15 years, I have never been made to feel so ashamed during a 3 minute grocery store transaction. Prior to today, I was considering being a shareholder. But after this experience, I will NEVER be shopping there again. I try and support local business’s but places like Wegmans, Target, and Walmart have no issue with my dog being with me.
