This place has it all! Not only great for any outdoor recreational activity you could think of, but a lot of useful every day gear. Biking, camping, hiking, rock climbing, water rafting etc, they’ll have things you didn’t even think you would need until you see it. You’ll even find bear spray here. The store has a great layout and surprisingly sectioned off with a level of organization that shows they know what they’re doing. You’ll find plenty of items for kids as well. Be prepared and allow yourself some extra time as a lot of these items are unique and you’ll find yourself stopping and looking at items you didn’t come for. Surprisingly great deals on high dollar items. Great quality, friendly staff and over the top fun place to visit. A must visit if you have plans for not only Kansas City, but for mountain play as well

I found this place quiet expensive however I have no complaints. What I liked about the store is that they have garage sale at a corner and the stuffs are good . My on runnings shoes which I got for 159, I found it on second hand sale for fifty bucks. If you want to have a peaceful shopping with no one around and just the customer service to help you then this should be your store to shop.

Drove 3+ hours from Arkansas to go shopping in KC. We happened to see REI on our way to some other shopping venues - thank goodness we stopped! It was, by far, the best stop we made. We have been to the REI in the DFW area before and we loved this one just as much! Anna, in the shoes dept. was extraordinarily helpful and pleasant to work with. Though I cant speak for all of the products the store has to offer, what we have purchased here is well worth the cost and very long-lasting. Looking forward to coming back!

I recently moved to KC from Denver where I had half a dozen REIs in a short driving distance. I am so thankful this sole REI store is here so I can still get all my favorite products locally without waiting for shipping. The store has felt very safe with its protocols and I’m so glad they are open with precautions to try shoes on (some things you just want to do in person). I have had really good luck with finding items in stock at this location and available for curbside pickup. The curbside pickup has been a fantastic bonus and operates so smoothly. Everyone is very helpful and nice. Just being at REI makes me feel so happy and adventurous!

REI store sells clothing, footwear, supplies and other knick-knacks for outdoor lifestyle, and activities. It carries many high-end brand and trendy items, and also REI line of apparel and other items. The store’s emphasis is on quality, reliability and performance (to the specs) of the products, and that comes with a price tag. Some of the brand-name product lines they carry don’t go on sale very often. We have found some good deals at the online REI Outlet store. We have found the staff at this Kansas REI store to be highly-knowledgeable and patiently helpful. You do not feel the sales-pitch, and their return policies are generous. It is great to have this store in our community.

This is the first time I have been to an REI. I was expecting it to be bigger but that did not diminish the good experience I had there. I had to return some items my husband had bought and that was painless. Then I shopped for hiking sandals and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They are taking the pandemic super seriously so you must have a mask and you have to keep it on the whole time, which I think is great. The saleswoman was very helpful when I was selecting my shoes. All of the sales people that I talked to and interacted with were very engaged and interested. They seem to really know their stuff and be genuinely interested in the outdoors. If youve never been to an REI store, heres why you will either love it or hate it: the brands and the people. The brands range from mid-tier to extravagant. Youll probably pick one and decide based on very little evidence that its superior. It wont be, but itll make you feel better while youre outside. So just pick one and tell yourself its the best. Just dont tell anyone else. Ever. Even if they ask directly, maybe wait until they ask twice just to sure. The only real value add to REI is the people. You can get the same brands elsewhere, or cheaper brands elsewhere. What you cant get is the dedication of a work force who works at REI mostly because they love outdoor activities. Walk into any other outdoor gear supplier and itll feel either more corporate, more white male centric or both. REI has a womens section that isnt an afterthought, and doesnt just have pink duplicates of mens gear. The store is filled with semi experts who would rather be helping you find the perfect sock or kayak or debating the merits of cold soak vs stove fuel than restocking organic beef jerky. Give them something else to do, for goodness sake. Why so you think they always ask if you need help? ITS BECAUSE THEY NEED THE HELP.Oh, and the prices. Yeah, REI isnt Wal-Mart. You can get similar (shoddier) items for less. Youll replace them more often, but its still less up front. And if youre not avid, then get that cheaper tent. Gear failure is the entire point of outdoor activities, and the only way to know its limits and yours. Go outside, learn what gear works and enjoy the stories youll get to tell when things break. There isnt much else to do once its dark and the fire is your only entertainment.

Me and my daughter have the same disability. We were denied entry to REI Sports Co-Op, unless we wore a mask. Face shields were not allowed. We cannot wear masks. The store manager refused entry unless the mask requirement was let, per corporate policy.I informed him:These state mandates do not override the consideration of reasonable modifications required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).If a person with a disability is not able to wear a face mask, state and local government agencies and private businesses must consider reasonable modifications to a face mask policy so that the person with the disability can participate in, or benefit from, the programs offered or goods and services that are provided. A reasonable modification means changing policies, practices, and procedures, if needed, to provide goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations to an individual with a disability. It is important to focus on how to provide goods or services to a customer with a disability in an EQUAL MANNER. This can be done by reasonably modifying your policies, practices, or procedures. The requirement to modify a policy, practice, or procedure does not include individuals without disabilities, as they are not protected under the ADA.I have filed complaints with the Kansas State Senate Majority Leader, one of the US Senators for Kansas, the State Attorney Generals office, The Disability Section of the Civil Rights Division, the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, and others.

Good outdoor wear, terrible mask police. I wore my mask inside the store and for a moment I moved it away so my glasses would clear when nobody was in proximity. Out jumps a member of the mask police and tells me to put the mask on when there was no one within 200 ft. He very snidely ask me to put the mask above my nose at which time I explained werent we several hundred feet away from anybody and he said, put your mask on anyway. Thats cool I came in to buy five new pairs of kuhl outdoor pants. But now Im just buy online and tell everyone to not shop where the mask police are.

I was wearing my mask over my mouth but not my nose because it is hard for me to breath due to my allergies. I was harassed by the employees there because I did not have the mask over my mouth and nose. They said that it was due to City law in Overland Park that i had to cover my mouth and nose. I found out that this is not true because i called Overland Park police department and they said it is not so. If you go and shop at other stores in Overland Park they do not have these strict rules. Looking at the REI stores on the west coast (California, Oregon and Washington) 43 out of 49 stores are open to in-store shopping. BUT the store in Overland Park, KS is still curb-side pick up only and no in-store shopping. Wasnt COVID a much bigger issue on the coast? Whats up REI? Dont you value your mid-west customers? I guess not.I recommend changing the REI logo for the mid-west stores. See attached.

Their employees are knowledgeable and can make recommendations based on experience. Because their products are so expensive, they offer returns up to a year from the time of purchase (i believe) to make sure you can test it out and that it will work for you. Being a member gets you 10% back in dividends and you get other perks too. Like the garage sale which happens a couple times per year but you have to get there EARLY to get anything good. Today I was in your store and was told that it didnt matter that I have a disability that was exacerbated by wearing a mask. I was told that the ADA does not recognize my disability. This is completely FALSE. I contacted my attorney and here is the answer that you and your company, REI, need to be acutely aware of. You are leaving youself and REI wide open to the possibility of a very costly and public discrimination lawsuit.Persons with a disability is unable to wear a face mask, do I still have to allow them in my business or government agency?Thirty-two states currently have statewide mask mandates. These mandates vary by state but generally call for face masks to be worn inside public spaces, public transportation, and any situation that where six feet of social separation cannot occur. These mandates also include exemptions for children, people with disabilities or medical conditions, and situations where masks interfere with effective communication.[26] These state mandates do not override the consideration of reasonable modifications required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Many private businesses have also developed policies requiring the use of face masks. The ADA does not have any rules that address the required use of face masks by state and local governments or private business owners.
