Great sandwiches! So so fries, they were a bit dry. Butcher counter looks like it has some great cuts.We werent sure we were in the right location tho at first as we saw no menus, no sign that it was a restaurant. We were welcomed by one of the butchers who pointed us to menus by the cash register👍Nice casual vibe, good music.Would return too try other sandwiches.

Lovely locally sourced butcher shop, charcuterie, and restaurant. I walked by and stopped in and tried the fish sauce fried chicken breast sandwich with chicken sourced from nearby Pittman ranch. It was stunningly delicious, juicy, sweet and spicy, and surprisingly paired with fresh diced pineapple and a mound of Thai basil, parsley, and jalapeno. A draft beer to wash it down and Im recharged to continue exploring Oakland. What a treat! The picture shows a half sandwich after I devoured the other half.

We love this place! They have great food and have been a staple for us for the last year being in and out of Kaiser Hospital. Please try them and keep them going. They are a great local business.

This is a butcher shop and they know what to do and their job. Go there and enjoy your big and delicious burger. Burger side they gave you salad and also healthy burger.) Toilets were clean. Small tables and high chairs available there. I definitely recommend this place

Great place to eat a large lunch or dinner; all the dishes come with a side salad. The Philly cheese steak was really good along with the chicarones with beans and pork. It’s a bit pricey,$30 for the sandwich and the fried pork.

I got a Reuben on gluten free bread and the serving size was HUGE. The pastrami was excellent quality, the kraut was super fresh and honestly these fries. The fries were perfectly cooked. Like the crispiest best little bites Ive had in forever. I kept eating them long after I was full. I will definitely come back!

Like the fact it’s meat are from locate farms. The food was good for a deli/eatery. I’m giving it one star because of the experience. When I walked in I was greeted which was nice. I placed a fine in order and was told to have a seat where I like. I was siting patiently fo r my food while watching my greeter serve plates of beautifully plated food.Now here comes my food and I’m serve in a Togo box. I look around and I’m the only one eating at a table out of a Togo box. My initial thought was to ask what is there a pacific reason I was the only one eating my dine in the food and it’s a go box. I didn’t ask because I didn’t want to cause a scene. So I quietly got up and left the restaurant. I don’t know if it was because I was eating alone or because I was the only black person in the restaurant. It made me feel really uncomfortable unwelcome and want it and I will never spend a dime in our establishment again.

Only reviewing for the meal we enjoyed. Im too loyal to my butcher.The hot chicken biscuits and gravy was fantastic, cleaned my plate.My better half went with the lamb meatball sub and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.The beef fat fries were to die for.Fried green tomatoes were fresh and refreshing.Not deducting a star for it but there are much better Bloody Marys out there.

We ordered and split the fries, the Cuban (with no cheese) and fried chicken sandwich, they were amazing! My friend likes his sandwiches on the dry side and I prefer them moist. My friend loved the Cuban he said it was just dry enough that all the flavors of the meats came through and you can tell it is quality meat.

They changed ownership and I was told that they were not going to change the recipes. Up until today they haven’t but my partner and I ordered two burgers which is their signature dish and we got seemingly frozen pre-made patties. Not their usual crackly smash burger. Really disappointing. Not sure who owns it now hopefully it’s all the Latinos that are working there now and getting paid what the tattooed white boys who were there before them where? Somethings not write.

This spot is the one I always prefer. I go to a lot of restaurants but to this place I keep coming back again and again. The team is very attentive and the food they serve is so delicious. I am always happy to have a good meal in this place. I recommend this place with pleasure.

Ok first of all, I was NOT expecting this meal to be as good as it was! We had the pig face Cuban, fish sauce caramel fried chicken, tallow fries, and the brussels. I don’t know what my favorite thing was, the brussels were my ABSOLUTE favorite, I don’t even like my own anymore, these blew me out of the water!!! So crispy, sooo good! The fries tasted like fries to me honestly so of course they’re good nothing special. But what is special is the chicken sandwich, boy oh boy was I not expecting a flavor combo like that! The crunchiness of the slaw, and chicken with the burst of the pomegranate seeds was truly something special, it was a whole experience in itself! The Cuban was equally as delicious and I loved the pickles. We will be back to tackle more of the menu because I can’t see anything here not being tasty, shout out to WHOEVER came up with the menu, you deserve a hug!

I am not sure what happened to this establishment, but the food quality, service staff and general cleanliness of the place have gone downhill. It was so good and seems as if it has changed ownership. It has lost its edge and needs to find its way back or go.

Dear potentially valuable customer, avoid this place by any means possible. However, in theory, you may enjoy the place if you like 1) dirty tables (see photo); 2) burned food (see photo): I still trying to get how it is possible to burn only one half of the bread; 3) eating your cookie from plastic wrap - why do you need a plate (see photo) and 4) watching raw meat while you are eating.

High key best lunch spot in Oakland. They try really hard to super hipster but it I go for the food. It’s that type of spot that should have a bike rack out front and give you a 10% discount for having a beard.But they know their meats and they cook them well. I kept it basic with the burger and opted for the upgrade of $1.5 tomatoes from some locale that I have no idea of. Loved the fact they included the side salad which was literally mixed greens in a light vinegarette but when you let the burger and cheese drip over it, you get double the flavors.This place proves I need to leave the city and hop the bridge more often.

This place is so cute and so delicious! I was surprised to find that it’s a restaurant and a butcher where you can buy meat. We got the fish sauce caramel chicken sandwich, cheesesteak sandwich, and smoked cauliflower and fries. The chicken sandwich was delightfully surprising - loved the mint and bean sprouts on the sandwich and the chicken was juicy. The cheesesteak was my favorite - super tender meat and the cheese fondue was spread perfectly over the sandwich. The fries reminded me of in n out fries but crispier. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu! Street parking was easy but it was a Sunday.

Another trendy place. Prices are a bit high but the food is good and plentiful. Counter service to order, self serve for table setup amd bussing, food brought to your number, buss service to push people along. There is often a line. So it is not a place where one can feel welcome to have a long business lunch with discussion. They want your table. The selection is good. Offer if drinks and sides has gotten more varied (one can now get a normal diet soda). Their main draw is quality meat based sandwiches and on that they do not disappoint.I had the pastrami w/o a bun. Great.

Our food was very tasty. We ordered the pulled pork (St. Louis BBQ sauce) and the fried chicken sandwich and cheese fries. The taste was deliciously different from other restaurants.

Second visit: we didnt have the same experience on our second visit. Sandwiches were very salty, pastrami wasn’t very tasty fried chicken still had a red blood vessel. Not sure what happened between visit 1 and 2.First visit: Food was super good! We ordered the chicken sandwich, cheesesteak sandwich, fries and broccoli fondue cheese. The sandwiches were fantastic! Super tasty and fresh. The fries fried in beef fat was superb. I would pass on the broccoli fondue cheese. I think the broccoli alone would’ve tasted better.

To be honest, if I was REALLY craving it again, I would make the drive. Im happy that there isnt a 3 hour wait like before, but I wish they added a direct pickup option. I will without a doubt come back to support whenever everything is fully open and hopefully get to try that Howlin level spice. If I wanted to simply enjoy a good sandwich, I would order the medium spice level. The hot is definitely spicy and it wasnt a pleasant experience coming out the other side LMAO

Clove & Hoof butcher shop is one of my personal favorites in the area. Quality of their products is always above my expectations. The restaurant food, currently only for take-out(Oct 2020) is really tasty as well. The Oaklands Cheese steak is a must try!

This is a combination butcher shop with a sandwich shop. The term sandwich is an understatement as they are made for two if not three people to share or a very hungry person. One orders at the counter, pays and picks up the order. There are a few tables to eat sitting down. I can see that one may have to share a table. Good way to make friends. There are several sides like coleslaw and fries. We had the fries and they were wonderful. I had the pastrami sandwich and my friend had the Cuban sandwich. Both sandwiches were hug. Their regular hamburger had two or three patires of meat. Most sandwiches run $15-16 each. Again, note one can easily split a sandwich.

Chicken samwich was so good, unlike any other chicken samwich Ive had. Burger was massive and really tasty.

I’m from NJ, so I know exactly what a good cheesesteak tastes like, and have been disappointed countless times with cheesesteaks out here. However, Clove and Hoof’s version is AMAZING! Absolutely delicious and spot on. I’ve also gotten the fried chicken sandwich with fish sauce. Really good as well! They also have some pantry items like bone broth and frozen chili. I’ve made soups with the bone broth and I was impressed. Don’t hesitate to support this place! Their COVID procedures are on point.

Great quality artisan butcher, but by no means cheap. Really great pickle selection too. Food served is excellent, cubano is great.Business was recently sold, curious to see if anything changes.

We are visiting from out of town, and a local recommended this place. I have celiac, and was excited to see that they have gluten free burger buns. I have tried many gluten free buns, and they are all dry and cardboard-like. This was hands down the BEST gluten free burger I have EVER had. The bun was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The burger was tasty and oh my the cheese!!! I have never been so excited to eat a gluten free burger. Good thing I don’t live by this place or else I would probably come way to much! The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Two thumbs up!

Oaklands Cheesesteak at Clove & Hoof is not only the best Cheesesteak in the Bay Area, it is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten.

Super friendly and yummy food. I had the lamb grinder, if you like lamb go for it. One person had the Cuban and said it was good. The burgers looked amazing. Lives the side salad that came with my crispy bread.

Liked the simple straight forward menu. I got the burger and chicken sandwich. Found the onions in the burger deliciously caramelized. I usually dont enjoy onions period but I like what they did by making it almost like a jam. Worth a try for sure. Now the chicken sandwich was a bit dry and given it was a pretty large portion, I found it hard to finish. Still would recommend the burger though.

The chicken sandwich is amazing! I drive from Marin just to enjoy its sublime taste. Fries are good and the rest of the sandwiches on the menu are high-quality versions of fan favorites. Not cheap, but Ill happily pay for this quality every day of the week. And the butcher shop is outstanding.

Amazing food! If you appreciate great tasting food that is home made/cured, then you will love it here. Im so happy they are about amazing food as well as amazing meat. And lets not forget their crisp salad, sides, sausages and charcuterie. Im absolutely in love!

There’s so much good here—locally sourced, meat-heavy dishes that are upscale casual. The price kills me though. It’s $15 for a sandwich (in all fairness a very large sandwich) but a sandwich nonetheless. The service model is lacking. They take your order and bring you your food but everything else, including water, napkins and silverware are on you. It just feels like a lot of cash without a whole lot of return value.

Ordered the Cheesesteak and it was delicious! All the flavors- beef, cheese, mushrooms, and hoagie - were just right together. Service was excellent and food was prepared fast. Fries were extra crunchy with a side of this mayo garlic sauce that had awesome flavor. Will definitely be going back!

One of the best cheese steaks I’ve eaten in the Bay Area. It’s a little pricey, but you pay for the quality. All the food is delicious, but that cheese steak keeps me coming back for more. Deliciousness!!!!!

Humane meat!!! Yay! Also they are great both the butcher and restruant. They do special orders and know their stuff and are very patient. Pretty expensive but their meat quality and service is worth it. Also the restruant is delicious and has the current title of my partners favorite burger in Oakland. They are happy to work with you to get you what you want. One time they didnt have enough ground lamb so they ground it for me right then. Also they make their own sausages.

A table of 4, we had the breakfast sandwich, 2 burgers, and the cheesesteak. We also had the asparagus and fries.Ordering was a snap, and service overall was great (for counter service).It is very loud inside, really more market than restaurant.The food was terrific.Asparagus was cooked perfectly - which is a feat.Burgers were sloppily delicious. Im not a fan of pimento cheese but the pickles were stupendous. The buns (all around) were peerless.The cheesesteak looked a little restrained, but my sister applauded the taste of the meat, and said shed order it again.The breakfast sandwich was fine, auntie was not thrilled but she can no longer eat the big beef items, so she was probably just jealous.The fries are top-shelf. Make sure to order more than you think youll want, because you wont want to get up to order another round when your burgers half-finished and the line is out the door.Oh yeah -- the line. Go at an odd time, and youll be fine.

Went with a friend, counter person rang in my order wrong, i order beef burger med-well, brought it out to me rare, it was like eating raw flesh🤢, i completely & immediately lost my appetite. Counter person did apologize. My friend ate his & then we left

The burger had a perfect medium rare patty with caramalized onions, aioli, pickles and a few greens. I particularly dont like a lot of greens in my burger as I think it takes away from the meat and other ingredients. This was all harmonious.

Ok, bad part out of the way: it isnt cheap.The food is amazing. I had the Cuban Sandwich (pictured) which was very tasty. Although a little on the salty side, it was delicious and a good size. It came with a side salad dressed with oil.My colleagues had the cheesesteak and wouldnt shut up about how good it was. We also got the slaw and a side of ribs. Slaw was solid. Ribs came in a vinegary barbecue sauce. Wasnt a huge fan of the vinegar flavor since I prefer dry rubs or sweet.Will definitely go back and try something else.

One of my favorite places to eat. beautiful inside, lots of windows, very pleasant, kind of yuppie-heavy... great meat in their butcher counter, including pork belly, pancetta, nice cuts of beef, pork, lamb... i recommend the burger. good old burger. today, i ordered a special on their menu... one of the few disappointments: a pork chop on a sesame bun, or was it a bagel... way, way too salty, the crusty portion of the hcop was...solid salt? altho the pork was pretty delectable, it was hard to appreciate in the overly salty and unpleasant crust. please taste test your specials better..................

My favorite spot in Oakland hands down. Saw the restaurant on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Went for the chicken sandwich, and have now tried most of the sandwiches, all outstanding! Keep returning for the chicken. We have purchased many different things from the meat counter, and keep going back for the beef short ribs and filet mignon! Delicious. Staff are quick and friendly. Its clear that they work together well.

Sub par. My pulled pork was ALL mustard, couldnt even taste the pork. My friends hamburger was way overcooked. He ordered it medium rare and it came well done. Theyre supposed to be a butcher shop... asked for one of their sausages on the side and they couldnt even do it

I visited today for the first time as It was suggested by a friend. I was taken aback at how small the dining area was. The next surprise came when I was advised that you order prior to being seated. Thank goodness the menu is limited!! I ended up letting several people (which seemed like repeat patrons) go before me as I didnt want to order in haste. Luckily a couple of friends that came a few minutes after me were able to get a table to accommodate our group of four. While still in line, one of the staff noticed our frustration and let us know since we had a table to be seated and decide. In other words, get you indecisive a**es out of the way! By this time, I was ready to leave. I decided to stay because I was there to see friends and see what all the hype is about. A friend and I ordered the cheeseteak. Shes not a fan of mushrooms, the hostess mentioned it wasnt a problem removing them. I happen to love them so I added extra. We also ordered fries, slaw, brussel sprouts and the corn salad. The sides arrived first. They were all Great! When our cheesesteaks arrived they looked Great! At first bite, it was very dry and the meat seemed overcooked and salty. The second and third confirmed that it was not only dry, there were very little onions and mushrooms. I checked with my friend if she had gotten mine by mistake. No, hers sans mushrooms. I decided to call it quits after the the third bite to concentrate on the sides.If I decide to go back, I will stick with the sides as the cheesesteak was underwhelming!

Great food! Best Philly cheesesteak outside of Philly! But charging for iced tea refills! Really?! Who does this! I can understand the soda since it comes in bottles and cans but iced tea is the cheapest thing to make. Seriously?!The food is pricey but well worth it. So charging for iced tea refills seems a little too much!

Beside the Price The only thing that I noted is the chance of cross contamination when handling the raw meat. As I have viewed through the window I will see the sales persons touch the raw products bear handed from one to the next with out ever rinsing there bear hands then will touch other items and then go back to the products being interacting with.Service is fine but a sandwich is $14.Like I was told when I asked why not be open til 18:30. We may not want those people.

Manager and server were charming and happy and informative about the menu. They gave me a carafe of water so I didnt have to lift a finger.

On a warm, sunny April Sunday night at around 7 PM we two arrived, and every seat was taken, and people were waiting for seats. We ordered at the counter after about a 7 minute wait - no problem. Miraculously a 2 seat table opened up next to the windows right as we finished our order. I had the corned beef sandwich and cole slaw - both were good. He had the Cuban pork sandwich and tallow fried fries with pickle juice aioli - really liked both. I thought the fries were good.The retro updated interior is clean an inviting for casual dining.The staff was pleasant, and reasonably chill considering how busy they were... except for one cranky person. Tables werent being bused, and people whod been waiting for seats were sitting down and gathering up the previous diners plates, etc. The cranky buser admonished three tables, including us with, next time wait for us to bus the table before you sit down. This isnt how we do it here. My thoughts, but not my words were, when its crowded, and people are waiting for seats, bus the tables faster so people dont have to mill around like vultures waiting for the object of their desire to die.I recommend it, and Ill go back.
