We walked 25 minutes to this place after checking the business hours on Google maps, only to arrive to a boarded up store front saying that they’re closed due to Covid?? It’s October 2021, nothing is closed due to Covid anymore. And the sign on the door also says “we know Google Maps says we’re open, but we’re not”. Pretty sure that’s something that they could correct easily online.

Kelly Telecaster style guitars are the best Ive ever seen and heard. I lusted after them but could not afford one. In the 90s I used to visit his store on lunch break (worked on Varick)and he always let me hang out and play an acoustic. Always. Better than Boo. You dont run a printing press stoned. Ever. I finally paid a visit to Carmine Street Guitars in the West Village last weekend. It was a busy Saturday in the shop, but Rick Kelly took time to talk with me & my family. I have been admiring his guitars for many years, and it was so nice to see everything in person. This is the kind of old school craftsmanship that is so important in guitar building. Each of his instruments tells a story. He invited me back to his workshop to take a few pics. I left with a shirt and a few guitar picks this time, but I will be back for a guitar! When we entered the store we did not realize someone (owner) was sitting in the dark corner of the Shop. We were ignored by the owner and not welcomed. We came from Germany to New York to see some guitars there, wanted to play some and maybe buy one. Read about the Shop before and it should become one Highlight at our New York trip. It was exactly 5pm as we entered the Shop on halloween and here is exactly what the Shopowner said at we asked him if it would be possible to test the guitar in front of us: 1st Sentance this is a customer repair, 2nd Sentance: we dont have any guitars to sell. Sold out, 3rd sentance: ... Have to close earlier, because of the parade. I was speechless. I have never been treated as rude as in this store. I did nothing wrong. What should I say, I am so dissapointed. I guess they do not need to be friendly and sell something.

Rick Kelly is one of the best luthiers alive. I am honored to have the experience of seeing his shop and playing his guitars.

I brought a guitar and an amp to be repaired. Along 4 long months I was repeatedly told that it would be ready “next week”. I wasted time on countless calls and visits. I even looked and purchased parts for the repair on behalf of the shop. I was forced to buy a replacement guitar for a tour. Well today I was told: I have no time get them back. Crazy waste of time & money, zero professional: STAY AWAY.
