Kremer Pigments has an amazing collection of pigments that will boggle your mind. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable, great for beginners or those just interested in pigments to learn more. I love to just drop in and explore all the different materials they have here. They recently also started doing classes. Ive yet to take one but they seem really interesting!

I took a class on making natural mineral and pigment watercolors. My instructor was amazing and I had the best time. Highly recommend.

Lots of stuff and classes in fine arts if you live in New York City. Not so much on the West Coast. A two sentance how to on lots of things to make errors on can lead one into a fine mess. Yes tons of products, no for instruction of use of said products.

Probably some of the most wonderful watercolors Ive found- they are really intense, full, and lay down more evenly than other watercolors Ive tried. The store has some on display for you to try. The staff is really helpful, and can answer your questions, even the technical ones like light-fastness, and opacity.

Update: Theyve agreed to accept a return of the product. My trust in the company (who stands behind their products) has been restoredGreat Pigments but a HORRIBLE return policy! I bought some Silicate Paints that ended up being not pure silicate but an acrylic emulsion. My clients werent happy and I asked to exchange it. They refused to take the unopened bottles back that I had bought just a week before. I have bought thousands of dollars of their products and thought they would be more understanding with a small item return.

Great art supplies store

If you are an art materials nerd who knows what color cobalt stannate is and has strong opinions about the use of traditional sizing, then this place is like your Mecca. Helpful and courteous staff! Possibly the best pan watercolors in the entire world.

The Kremer Pigments is the one of last stores of the kind in this country. Very useful for artists of many walks of the trade. I visited the New York store first in 1988 when they where still on Elisabeth St. and remained their customer ever since. Please keep going the Kremer!

Thank you Rachel for your willingness to explain in detail, the intricacies of making gesso at home and specific techniques, such as how to mix cellulose glue without it clumping, that produce great results better than one can buy at the store.
