It was easy to text and make an appointment the day of, and I had a lovely time exploring and chatting with the owner. It’s a marvelous collection. Appointments are required just so they can be sure to be in when you want to visit (and because this is no thrift shop!)

In my experience George is a flake. Over the years I have made appointments only to have him not show up and not answer his phone. I don’t live in NY so it is an inconvenience. He doesn’t seem like a very nice human being.

So theres a reason they call this guy the globe guru. George has an unparalleled expertise in antique globes and cartography. He maintains the largest American globe collection in the world and probably knows more about cartography than anyone else on the planet. Globe manufacturers go to George for their own history. He also has a collection of Fine art, decorative arts, and a vast amount of obscurities. The gallery is chock-full of things to look at and can only be fully appreciated over multiple days due to the density of his arrangements. Unfortunately, it is open by appointment only but dont hesitate to call and schedule a walkthrough.

Definitely one of the most unique galleries I have ever visited. So many cool fun things to look at. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. If you are looking for unique prints, maps, globes, or any type of conversational piece for your home or workspace then George Glazer Gallery is a must see whenever your in NYC. After three phone calls inquiring about a very expensive celestial print, I still have no answer on condition, availability or price. I’ve only heard a promise for a return call that never comes and two men who obviously don’t care about selling their prints. They both acted as if I was bothering them. I have visited the Gallery numerous times over the years, most recently last week. The Gallery is a rare treasure, one of the best-kept secrets in New York. Serious antique collectors must check it out. Call ahead for an appointment.
