Erstwhile was fantastic!I ordered a custom Astrid ring, giving Jesse the information on the kind of diamond I was looking for. Erstwhile did a great job of sourcing the diamond and Jesse kept me up to date. They were even able to acquire a better diamond than they had quoted me for! I got videos of the diamond when they sourced it and of the ring after it was produced. They finished the ring faster than expected and I was able to surprise my fiancé with the proposal.The ring itself is mesmerizing, elegant, and unique. I had such an amazing experience with Erstwhile. I wanted to be involved with the selection of my ring and had been eyeing Erstwhile online for years before I was even ready to get engaged, so I was thrilled to make an appointment at the showroom. They do offer limited weekend appointments, but I was able to schedule something on a Saturday without any issue. Nikki was SO helpful and kind, and super responsive on email. I decided on my ring during our appointment, and my fiance purchased it shortly after. He had a wonderful experience working with Nikki, and I truly cannot get over my ring. It is exceptional, unique, and exactly what i was looking for.

I purchased an item of jewelry from Erstwhile website three weeks ago and they were absolutely stellar from beginning (from the first point of online enquiry) to end (post delivery follow-up). They were patient with my questions and were very accommodating with my requests relating to delivery. Normally, I would be very hesitant in purchasing an expensive item over the internet, but my experience with Erstwhile has proved worthwhile. Easy, fast and fabulous service!

I worked with Erstwhile entirely online. I knew the style that my girlfriend had wanted and we saw examples on Erstwhiles website. I communicated almost entirely with Nikki through the whole process. My questions were responded to promptly, and when I had additional requests for picture, Nikki had put the ring on and sent me additional photos.Once I decided to buy and size, the ring was shipped securely and promptly by air. The packaging included multiple boxes, paper work, and a hand written letter. I felt great about the entire online purchasing experience with Erstwhile.I will say that we had a tiny stone pop out right after it was worn, but Erstwhile took care of that and provided return shipping immediately. They stand behind what they sell and will be quick to fix any little issues that may arise. I would absolutely recommend them and think their website and service are excellent for buying unique items.

The ring we purchased from Erstwhile has broken twice with ordinary use. The first time, they took the ring back and repaired it without issue. When it broke in the same location, their lifetime warranty was completely meaningless.Direct quotes regarding the broken ring -1) This is a vintage ring, something we did not manufacture to begin with2) These things happen all the time3) Im guessing you had the ring sized and the shank broke4) Any repair needed after the first 6 months is deemed due to wear and tearYes, Erstwhile, we had the ring sized by YOU. Saying your manufacturers warranty doesnt apply because you didnt manufacture it is crazy. How do you really advertise lifetime warranty when you wont repair a ring that has broken 2 times in 3 years?For reference, they wanted $175 to repair it for the second time, which they eventually (begrudgingly) offered to reduce to $100 for shipping so that they can say they offered to repair it for free again. We opted for a local vendor instead, as we have no faith that Erstwhiles repair would not present the same issues again.They have some very nice rings but I would not trust this company with an expensive purchase that you want to last a lifetime.

I purchased an engagement ring at Erstwhile. After eyeing a few rings on their website, which is very well laid-out, I made an appointment with Nikki to check it out in person at their NYC show room. The show room is a small office where youre able to check out as many rings as youd like ... Nikki was helpful with answering questions and making it feel like an easy process. She was transparent about the companys pricing and how the purchase process would work if I were to buy the ring.After checking out the rings, I honed in on two that I really liked. Over the course of several visits, I decided on the ring I wanted to purchase about two weeks after my first contact with the company. Throughout those two weeks, I visited the Erstwhile showroom four times -- one time was literally just to sit in a chair and think. Nikki and Jared are helpful about answering questions when you need them to, but theyre also happy to sit and do emails or other work while you just stare at jewelry for as long as you need to. This was comforting as I felt worried about making a large purchase on a ring that I had only eyeballed for a few minutes.Finally, I chose to make the purchase online and pick it up at their showroom. The process was smooth and I emailed Nikki again to set up a time to pick up the ring. Over the two weeks I exchanged about two dozen emails with Nikki, and she was always quick to respond and provide guidance when needed. I happily got the ring appraised for the amount I paid and my girlfriend said yes when I proposed with it a couple months later. She loves it.Overall, the process of buying an engagement ring is really weird. Living in NYC, the Diamond District has tons of in-person stores that you can walk into to take a look at rings, but a lot of them are very pushy and its extremely difficult to tell when youre being ripped off. On the other hand, shopping for a ring online is easy and efficient, and pretty transparent all things considered, but its an odd thing to spend a ton of money on something youve never even seen in real life.Erstwhile is the perfect in-between. If youre lucky enough to live close enough to their showroom, you have the advantage of browsing a very well-done website that is full of all the information and professional photos you need, plus the advantage of seeing it in person and dealing with patient, non-pushy employees to boot. I didnt think the purchasing process would be that easy when I first started shopping, so Im glad I found Erstwhile. I would recommend them to anyone.

My fiancé and I made the decision to go ring shopping together. Ive always loved vintage rings as I think they are made so much more beautifully than rings today. My search brought me straight to Erstwhile. We visited a few other places but Erstwhiles collection was far and away the best. It is a beautifully curated collection of antique and vintage rings and is supplemented with their own line which only uses vintage stones.We set up an appointment with Nikki. Walking into the showroom was a little strange - its more of an office set up - but we were quickly put at ease. Nikki was the perfect mix of hands on and hands off - answering questions when needed and knowing when to let us talk privately. She was engaging and funny and really made the whole intimidating experience of purchasing our engagement ring fun and relaxed. I wound up with a stunning emerald cut diamond Art Deco ring that I cant stop looking at (nor can anyone else!) We had to come back to have it resized as we didnt get it right the first time and the process was seamless. The whole Erstwhile team exudes this casual yet responsive energy which we really responded to. Ill definitely be buying my band here. I would recommend anyone in the market for a vintage ring visit Erstwhile, ether in person or on the web. The team is great and collection is killer!!!

Update: Sadly my ring band broke last year... I dont wear my ring every day because I was afraid of this ever since receiving the ring. I didnt even try contacting ehrstwhile bases on other reviews and the fact they sized this ring in the first place and left the band thin is indicative that they wouldnt do quality work to fix it. I sent it in to Tiffany and Co and they fixed it perfectly even called to go over everything with me.My fiancee and I had a very bizarre experience when we visited erstwhile. Initially, my fiancee​ was going to purchase the ring I liked online without looking at it or allowing me to try it on. Considering the purchase price, I told him Id rather try it on to make sure I loved it. We scheduled a trip to NYC specifically to see this ring. When we got to our appointment, we were told the ring was out for a photoshoot. This was extremely disappointing considering we drove 20 hours round trip to see the ring.The interaction was very uncomfortable, cold, and dismissive. I tried on a very similar ring to the one I wanted, but after 5-10 minutes it was so uncomfortable in the room we decided to leave. For the record, Im a Midwesterner so naturally, Im a little more in tune with engaging people. My fiancee is from NYC and surprisingly also sensed the discomfort during our short appointment.My fiancee ended up buying the ring that was out on the photoshoot, but only because it was beautiful and one of a kind and we hoped Id love it. If our purchase was solely based on customer service during our visit we wouldnt have purchased the ring.The online purchase process was smooth and customer service was great. I guess in this case computer interaction seems to trump personal interaction.Overall, their selection is wonderfully unique and beautiful. I love my Edwardian Tiffany ring and can look past some of the negatives I experienced when I visited. However, I think being a little more personable could go a long way which is why I gave them 4 out of 5 stars.
