My favorite place to get music (mainly), movies, video games, hard to find and pop culture items in the Myrtle Beach area. Between the variety, prices and knowledgeable staff, theres nowhere better!! (though Im curious as to how they came up with the name of their store???)

I absolutely love this place and would recommend it to locals and tourists alike! The owner is both insightful and helpful! His shop is like a little slice of nostalgia for anyone interested in pop culture, comics, music, or gaming!

Saw they had a record I’ve been looking everywhere for on a Facebook post, but I live all the way out in Texas. They helped me purchase it over the phone to have it shipped to me, and I received it earlier than anticipated! Packaging was great, they even included a couple of stickers from the store for me. So happy with the customer service, definitely wish I lived nearby so I could give the place a visit.

This is your average record store. They have an abundance of all kinds of records. Their prices are kind of obviously priced according to online prices, as they werent cheap. They also have video games and were having a 25% off sale. They clean them for you before you leave. Staff was fine, they were knowledgeable, and although they didnt speak to us, until checkout, they were attentive to other customers. Kilgor Trouts is a little out of the way, but I like to go to out of the way places when I can.

Great independent record store. I was fortunate to purchase a Record Store Day vinyl record of Stevie Nicks. I really like the sale days on Saturdays, especially rummaging through the $2 vinyl bin, which are BOGO free on Saturday. The owner is very knowledgeable. He has a nice selection of miscellaneous pop culture items. I recently saw a KISS poster from their first Marvel comic there. He also had a Dungeons and Dragons type of game I had as a boy there a while ago. I had forgotten about it until I saw it on the shelf. Just picked up a Grease poster for my daughter there.

Very,very,very cool store! They have been open for 15 years now & the people that run it are cool down to earth people! Its a nice ol fashion recorded store, but with so much more to offer! A must see if your here from outta town or even if your a local long timer!

Got tired of paying music streaming services and rediscovered my vast collection of CDs. This and upgrading my stereo system made the rediscovery a ton of fun. A spotted a CD on Kilgors we site and off we go to purchase. I was blown away by the CD selection and very very reasonable prices. Cds are alive and well at K Ts. We will definitely will make the trip again!

Good selection and friendly staff

Ive been to a fair number of record stores, Kilgor Trouts may be my favorite. I went in Record Store Day 2018, I was visiting Myrtle Beach for the weekend and just happened to stop in that day. The place was packed, as you could probably expect on RSD, and it could have been a stressful environment, but it wasnt. The line moved quickly and the staff there that day were helpful and friendly. The selection is fantastic, too! New records, used records, CDs, all sorts of stuff!I feel like they went above and beyond what a lot if places do in RSD, too. I bought two records and they have me some stickers, some comics, a record mat with a cool, custom design on it, and some other stuff! Its a great store!

Fun place! Its got a real 70s/80s aesthetic. I enjoyed talking with the salespeople, who where nice and fair with their pricing usually. But I have two big complaints, it was hotter than blazes in that store. By the time we left, I had sweat through my shirt. They need to invest in air conditioning, or perhaps a window, seeing as my other complaint is the smell. It wasnt necessarily unbearable, but certainly unpleasant. Now I know exactly what that smell is, and I know why its in the store. Its stale cigarette smoke, Im sure you could peel it off the used records in the store. It made the whole place feel dirty, like I was rooting through an abandoned garage. But even with the negatives, a fun place. I recommend.

If you like to shop in peace and not be bothered, this store isn’t for you. The lady that works there always has some nut ball conspiracy theory that she crams down your throat. Not everyone believes the government is hiding in my bowl of soup trying to listen to my conversation. All I was trying to do was shop in peace and next thing I know I am being warned that the government is after me. And they listen to my conversations and that they are coming for me. Its almost unreal the strange things that come out of her mouth along with loud shouting and banging on the counters.

Super chill atmosphere and employeess. Always seam to have new items in their used selection, and will order you anything new if they can. Its a great date day to waste a few hours thumbing through and the excitement when you find what your looking for.

Best place to buy vinyl ablums. Never bought an ablum that was not in great shape. They get new arrivals weekly.

Personality. Good prices. Fun attitude. Almost everything had a discount that the cashier was happy to inform us about. Got huge ceramic skull with 50% off, the counter man said his eye had been on it but he was glad I got it. SO got a nice variety of c.d.s with friendly help from the same one man show counter guy. Cool stuff all over including lp of Heart of Saturday Night by Tom Waits (a remastered reissue, granted but worth it for the album cover alone if I had a hifi with a turntable). A cool selection of stickers that seems to change frequently with images hadnt seen before. Always worth a stop in.

This place is great, though a little hard to find if youre not familiar with the area. Great selection, with a vibe and prices to match. Never know what youll find here, because its all used inventory, but that just adds to the fun of looking around. Plus, theyll order stuff for you if they can which is great for those of us who dont buy music at Walmart or steal it off torrent sites. If you want to support a local media shop stop in and check them out.

Let me just tell you, this store is by far the best one in Myrtle beach. The prices are amazing, the workers are so incredibly kind, and the interior is stunning. The store sells all sorts of incredible nostalgic things. I 100% recommended!!

We came in about three weeks ago shortly before leaving Labor Day weekend to go back to NC. The store is a cool hole in the wall, and the prices on regular LPs are very fair. I did not like the customer service because I felt they were a little condescending and not the friendliest for a store that says they welcome all online. Some prices on LPs like the Beatles seemed a bit high. The lack of mask wearing seemed concerning too. Although I found a cool rock LP, it felt very awkward to walk in and not have anyone bother to speak to us and act like they were dismayed we were there. The man and woman seemed aloof. I would recommend this store for LPs and their prices, but their customer service and the attitudes of employees to the customers needs to improve. I see my opinion is not the only one that feels this way. They could at least act like they are happy to have some business or happy customers that wanted to check out their store.

The best place in Myrtle to buy records! I recently got into buying and listening to record, I’ve bought 20-30 from here and they are all amazing. All the records are reasonable prices as well compared to other shops which are almost double price. The staff really helped me find what I was looking good and gave me suggestions on stuff to listen to. I love Kilgor Trouts. If the owner is reading this I’d love to work there!

I love this store! I live in North Myrtle so I dont get to make it here often. I probably come in once or twice a month but I always find great albums. It truly is one of the last real record stores. They got a huge collection of vinyl records, CDs, DVD and Blu-rays. They also have a few video games and some collectibles too! My only complaint is there isnt a huge selection of punk rock vinyl. This is a great store and I urge everyone to check it out!

Came in for some alternative, found some good deals. Manager & worker are insane and paranoid. Kept saying I stole from them. Worker kept spewing out conspiracies about the government. Will not be returning. Also, manager is known to post insulting comments under reviews.

Great place with old vinyls. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. We found some great buys on some oldies but goodies. They have new stuff as well but we were there for the older albums.

This store is a must visit now at christmas or any time. A cozy little iconic music store, it is like a friendly time machine. These great folks are the friendliest. Their vast selections of all types of music and arts are wonderful. A great place to shop and add some tunes to your collection.

This place is fantastic. I try to stop in as often as possible great deals on CDs, never leave without finding something great. Staff is very nice, easy to lose track of time.

I was excited to find out there was a record store in Myrtle Beach to visit during my weekend vacation. One of my favorite past times is exploring different record stores that Ive never been to before. Unfortunately, this store quickly lowered my excitement. Everything you need to know about a record store is seen by simply asking how they categorize used albums by genre. At this place, it was fairly standard genre labeling for good reason, if you ask me. Albums were rarely placed into specific locations by subcategories, years, or even properly split up artist by artist. One of the reasons for this could very well be the fact that there was little music diversity at this store. It seems to be stocked by albums nobody wanted by artists most people not living in cave have heard of before. Then marketed to people that just want a quick reminder of their favorite childhood artists or for the youth to experience some of their parents favorite bands. The used rock selection is just a blend of unwanted yacht rock albums, classic rock compilations, and the occasional great rock album. Dont expect to find any esoteric rock albums at this place. Their jazz section was particularly alarming due to the lack of any John Coltrane albums. Just an assortment of your moms favorite smooth jazz albums, Dexter Gordon records, and vocal jazz compilation albums. The new reissue section wasnt convincing and even lacked the basic albums one would expect to find in such a section. This is not the place for dedicated music fans.

Kilgor Trouts is a great destination for those who are on vacation in the Myrtle Beach area who are not into the whole Myrtle Beach scene but love music. I was not disappointed at all when I went; the staff was very friendly and, like any good record store, it had its own charm. When I am in the Grand Strand area again I will definitely make a stop by because it was one of the highlights of my trip. Just one suggestion: make some store t shirts to sale! I always try to pick one up when I go to new record stores and I didnt see any.

I love this record store but now it feels as if they monitor your every move. They even require you to take a used record to the front counter in order to check it out for condition. If you dont, and you open it at the rack to inspect it they will not sell it to you and will reprice it and put it out at a later time.I have been going to record stores for 40 years all over the country and have never been asked or required to do that for common albums. Premium albums, MoFi etc i can understand. I get that people do stupid things, or swap albums and sleeves but a simple check at the counter while checking out will take care of that. I also dont like being yelled at from across the store for doing it. Just explain in a nice way why they would prefer a customer not do something.The store does have an awesome vibe and a great selection of records and other musical themed items and in years past the employees have been polite and helpful. Maybe it was just an off day.

You know your lying, you told me you accidentally sold me tapes you shouldn’t have sold. Now your lying again and saying I stole from you. If I stole anything from you why didn’t you call the police?This narcissist wrongly accuses me of stealing from his store, admits he was wrong and was just jealous I resold the items for a profit, and now has decided to change his mind... again. I even gave him a second chance and purchased more items from his store. Experience I had below.Nice store but insanely paranoid owner. Long story short, I bought some reel to reel tapes from this guys store. One week later I decided to sell several of the tapes I bought, which is 100% legal and my right to do. Out of no where he contacts me on eBay and threatens to report me to the police for stealing from his store. He actually accused me of stealing items he sold me. Then he goes on my YouTube channel saying I am a thief. I have absolutely no idea what the hell this fool is talking about. He was the one who put the items I purchased from him in a bag for me. He eventually pulled his comments from my YouTube channel after he realized he was loosing his mind out of jealousy that I doubled my money from reselling his items.If your going to be jealous of people buying things from you and reselling them for a profit when you do the same damn thing, then you shouldn’t be selling anything.... period.

I have been coming here since August of last year. I am always impressed by the selection and most of all, the service the people here provide! They always try and make it an enjoyable time and are always very polite!

I was thrown for a loop when my daughter & I walked through the door! What seemed like acres & acres of lps. I like looking through 45s & at first didnt see many until I walked to the back!! WOW! I was in heaven! Plus the courtesy & know-how of the staff is incredible. If youre in the area I encourage you to stop in. You will not be disappointed!

I bought a brand new sealed copy of The White Stripes: The Complete John Peel Sessions from them just before Memorial Weekend and got home to discover that it had shipped out with only one of the two LPs. I called and was immediately told to just come in when I could and it would be replaced free of charge. I even got to open the new one in store to verify that it was free of issues just in case. Its the best customer service Ive received from any record store Ive been to and Kilgor Trouts has become my favourite store to shop at. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and just friendly when you walk in. If you havent been I highly recommend you give them a shot.

The store itself is good and has many unique items, the problem that I found was the customer service. The people who work here need to learn how to communicate better with their consumers and try to work with them rather than causing a conflict and being stubborn. I feel humiliated by the way I was spoken to. I purchased a record that I believed to be an original and not a bootleg (which was my mistake) however, when I tried to return it / get store credit I was spoken to aggressively and they refused to try to understand what I had to say. They also insisted that they told me it wasn’t a bootleg when I originally purchased the record, but they didn’t. I eventually received store credit as they don’t do returns, but I’m incredibly frustrated with the way i was spoken to. Customer service is a huge part of how you run a business, and I hope that they will learn from their mistakes and be less persistent and stubborn. It’s a shame, because I have so much genuine interest in the store itself and the items that they sell. (the way that the owner is responding to the criticism in the comments by swearing at people and insulting them is just another example. learn how to communicate)
