Butterfly Herbs has been my heart’s home in my favorite Montana town since 1973, when it was across the Higgins Bridge and beneath the Gilded Lily. The atmosphere is so warm, I loved going there in the evenings to study when I was in college, and stop there now whenever I’m in ZooTown. Great place to gab, eat, drink and people watch. The perfectest gift shop. 90% of my jewelry is from the Butterfly. It’s been great watching it blossom from the beginning.

Love the cafe here! Great place to go when you are looking for a quiet spot for breakfast, lunch, or simply a nice cup of coffee (the baristas make amazing lattes!). The Butterfly Club is delicious and don’t leave without trying a slice of their Huckleberry Coffeecake. They also sell bulk spices, loose leaf tea, and artwork from local artists.

I had the pleasure of visiting this store over the weekend while with a group of friends and I loved it so much I went back the next day! If you enjoy cooking with spices or herbal medicine, you absolutely MUST make time for Butterfly Herbs. The selection is incomparable and the prices are fantastic! The employees were so helpful and I enjoyed shopping with the young girl who helped me. Cant wait to go back! Since Im out of state, I was worried about the opportunity to replenish my spices but they told me I could call and place an order and they will mail me my goods!

Wednesday, May 5th 2021I had a horrible experience at Butterfly Herbs. I went in to get some tea and was asked by an employee to wear a face mask. I politely refused due to my religious conviction and medical exemption as wearing masks poses a health risk to me. At that time, an old man who appeared to be the owner said Yes, we discriminate when I asked if he was aware that refusing me service because of my religion was a violation of my first ammendmant right to freedom of religion and is discrimination, which is illegal. Under Color of Law Butterfly Herbs deprived me of my civil rights, broke multiple federal laws, and is practicing medicine without a license by suggesting I wear a medical device and attempting to supercede my doctors orders. Butterfly Herbs refused me fair and equal service at their place of public accomodation and needs to be held accountable. It is not OK to willfully break the law and violate the publics unalienable rights. Shame on you Butterfly Herbs.

The staff at this shop are very pleasant! There are so many things to look at, so take your time. The photo is just the cutest cup I saw. There is an entire wall of tea and spices. And by entire wall, I mean a 15-20ft wall filled to the top with jars. They use a ladder to reach the top for you! I had a great experience in the store and had to buy the awesome coffee mug.

This place is so neat. It feels like a general store or straight out of the Oregon Trail or something. Lots of spices, tea, and coffee with a cafe in the back. They keep their frequent customers in a Rolodex - in 2020. Just a cool place to see some of the “good old days” preserved.

The people at butterfly herbs are extremely rude, stuck up and uneducated. Definitely not a Family friendly establishment. I went in with my two young daughters who were excited about buying their first bundle of sage and a few herbs to use when learning how to cook a meal, I asked the shop attendant a question she answered me with an extremely unwelcoming attitude and looked at me like I shouldn’t even be speaking to her and then proceeded to tell my daughter not to touch the counter. I just think it’s a very rude place I have lived in Missoula my whole life and downtown as a place for family you should be able to go to shop locally but I will never spend another dime of my money at butterfly herbs I am a business owner myself and will not be recommending butterfly herbs to anybody that I know there are plenty of other places to get your herbs such as a good Food store.

We were travelling, on our way back home to Calgary. I read online that there was a wonderful cafe with gluten free options in this wonderful herbal store. They do have gluten free bread available that they can use instead of regular bread, but they use the same toaster, surfaces and other tools. My breve was wonderful, the store and its apothecary is divine, (I was quite frankly, blown away by this beautiful old building, the scope of the products available and how lovely everything is) but if youre looking for gluten free snack or light lunch, this isnt the place if cross contamination is a concern for your allergy, or if youre celiac.I have photos, I will share them from my phone later.

Quirky and diverse business with friendly staff, and great coffee shakes, but pretty inconsistent depending on staffing. Sometimes with fresh whipped cream, sometimes not. Feeling disappointed. Was there around 3:00 today. Lovely store, but the young lady who rang up our purchase was very unfriendly. I asked if they accepted the Missoula Downtown gift card, and her short answer was I dont know. No offer to ask a coworker, so I was essentially left to prove it myself by looking up participating vendors on my phone. She didnt ask the value of the card and simply said It says insufficient funds after running it. I asked her to run it again in the amount of $5, which was successful. Never once did she smile, offer her assistance or say thank you for shopping. The customer in front of us had to correct her when the young lady gave her incorrect change, and she never apologized, smiled or thanked her either. Really felt like our presence was a bother. Too bad because it seems like a beautiful store otherwise.
