Downer Wine & Spirits is great for a small, local liquor store. The selection is vast, from beer and wine to bourbon/whiskey, tequila and more - and the prices are fair. The staff is helpful, give their suggestions on what they think is better from experience, even if what theyre suggesting isnt top shelf. Awesome local store, I visit often and hope they continue to grow a broader selection of whiskeys.

Very friendly staff and a lot of variety for the drinks! My favorite are the On The Rocks pre-made cocktails, especially the Cosmopolitan.

This establishment keeps a clean and full water bowl for dogs outside the door. I always walk by on long dog walks so my pup can get a drink.

Knowledgeable staff, wide selection, EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!I bought a bottle of good scotch and it slipped out the box and shattered not 3 steps outside their door. They sold me a replacement at cost. Real local business values.

They dont have a lot of the local beers, but whatever they have is pretty good. I did not know what to get and the person at the counter helped me decide a beer which I really liked. Their wine selection is much bigger than the beer. So if you want to get wine, this is a good option.

Looked great from the outside. Hours were listed as open, but they were closed. I shouldve called (thats why 3 stars rather than 1), but the store should have updated the hours too. Disappointing.

These guys are great. Dont see what you want? Theyll order it. Dont know what to get? Theyll help you figure it out. So much nicer than going to the liquor Dept at the grocery store.

Best beer selection east of Rays. If youre within a few miles of this place I recommend making it your beer stop. They also consistently have a really good selection of single cans/bottles.

This place is great. Small, but that means the staff knows everything on the shelf. And it doesnt mean they dont have what youre looking for. Ive walked in there asking for some pretty obscure items and if they didnt have it on the shelf, they could order it for me. This goes for beer, wine and spirits. If you dont know what you want ask the staff and they will love to help you out. Ive found some of my favorites just by asking.

Craft Beer selection headed downhill, and they seem tired of you asking questions. Still a good spot on Downer for your wine needs. I pick up wine and spirits here on the way to or from work occasionally and I pretend to know nothing about the beverage biz at all so they have to provide some kind of service they seem to detest providing 🤣

Since my first experience with Downer Wine & spirits, Ive had the chance to visit on a couple other occasions and have found the proprietor Steve to be a solid bet for a good conversation and a fair price. On a side note, I stopped into a Total Wine recently and the difference in customer service hit me like a ton of bricks. All in all, I enjoy my time at Downer Wine and spirit and expect this to continue.

The owners and staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. The wine buyer is truly an expert and always happy to take the time to listen and offer advice. The wine selection is extremely thoughtful and wide-ranging, as are the liquor and beer selections. Take the time to join the Wine Club, which offers opportunities to earn and convert points as well as regular updates on new arrivals and good buys.

For a smaller store it has a great selection with a knowledgeable staff. The beer selection changes frequently, so if you find something you like, buy a couple because it might not be there the next time! Join the beer club to find out what new beer is coming to the store each week.

Where to start? Downer Avenue Wine and Spirits is a hidden gem in Milwaukee. They have great selection and great prices. Moreover, I have asked for suggestions on many occasions and they have been spot on every time. They really know their stuff even when compared to big wine growing regions like Santa Barbara and Northern California.

THE go-to liquor store when I lived in Milwaukee. Selection and knowledge of wines is unrivaled. Beer offerings outstanding. Smartly added a walk-in cooler for the beers.
