The food is phenomenal! Didn’t expect that from a coffee house. Great atmosphere. Open for special events. Very accommodating staff and always smiling. I am adding this place to my short list.

Used to be awesome place to chill, relax, read a book, write a short story...but now its too loud with flashing lights. I had to practically yell across the table so my date could hear me. The entire room to the left was vacant, tables pushed aside, and they were seating everyone in one room at a time until it was full. I dont think I will be venturing back here any time soon. Waitstaff was cheerful, but took 25 minutes to take our order and then took another 20 minutes to get a hot Chai and a milkshake. Everything is served on disposable plates and paper cups. NOT ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY but appeals to vegans with a vegan menu.

Place has been here since my College days at Monmouth (80s) (probably way before)! Always a good uplifting place to go! Try the deserts, you cant go wrong with any one of them. Their coffee makes Starbucks taste like vending machine coffee.... Im big on my secial blend of ice coffee and they always get it to perfection. A MUST VISIT!!! ;-)

Never again. Our waiter took our order and that was the last we saw him. Food runners and other waitresses had to help us after. One of our burgers didn’t come out until 20 minutes after everyone else’s food came out. Then when we got the check, they put a 18% tip in the check! They did not deserve a tip after waiting an hour just for our check. And if we wanted to tip cash it was already charged to our card. Most people probably do not even realize when they put an additional tip after, so they are getting double the tip! So ridiculous. Food was nasty.

Ordered take out. A coffee and few desserts. Waited for an hour after ordering and saw others that seated after my order receive food and drink. Was not attended (ignored) to for the hour i waited and had to find out things for my self. Waiter told me take out orders are not priority after 40 minutes of waiting. Hostess didn’t acknowledge my presence despite sitting around for an hour. Unless asking if the take out order sent out was mine.Do not order take out, you will be made to wait a long time for a small order. Even for a drink with food. And the waiters will not attend to you after you order. However the cinderblock in the lot i found was nice to sit on for the hour.

I used to come here with my friends all the time for late night food. I was here a few days ago for the first time since COVID and it was definitely not the same as it used to be. My boyfriend and I waited forever for our server to come and take our order, and we also waited forever for our food. We ordered milkshakes, fried mozzarella & wraps. I had the chicken caesar wrap and it was really warm, messy & not tasty at all. I couldn’t even finish half of the wrap without putting it down because it tasted that bad, my boyfriend felt the same way with his wrap, he grabbed the check and we left. The server didn’t even seem phased that we barely finished our food, she just gave us our check and walked away. The atmosphere of this place used to be great but it looked like the servers didn’t care to be there, & the place smelled like cigarette smoke. Not to mention, some of the stuff written on the walls in the bathrooms makes me wonder how they’re still a business. Some of the stuff on the walls is very unprofessional as a business and they probably haven’t painted over any of that in years.Save your money and go elsewhere, there are probably other places like this that have better service & they treat you like an actual customer, based on the other reviews I read for this place.

You can’t leave without having a Dutch coffee. Whether it’s hot or iced, it’s always an amazing treat. The menu and food is your typical diner food, which is to say it’s not disappointing and not mind-blowing. Expect wait times and service to take a while, as it gets busy quickly.Music can get loud sometimes.

Coming here is an experience. Its not flashy and its not upscale. Its unique, has great service and offers a truly fantastic drink and dessert menu which are really fun. There is also a big variety ofVintage is the loving way to describe the deteriorating interior of this place. But you dont come here for that. You come here because this is just a great spot to hang out. The vibe of the customers and servers combined with the drinks and desserts really make this place. And infamous New Jerseyan Kevin Smith used to eat here all the time. It also is in a very convenient location. Whats more could you need?

This places doesn’t understand a wait, we called and asked if there was a wait and they told us no, we get there they sit us down and then no one even put waters down after the first 20 mins then we finally ordered after 40 mins of sitting, I had one of the chicken sandwiches my girlfriend had a blt and my brother ordered chicken fingers, it took them 2 1/2 hours to bring out, we didn’t even eat the food we took it to go after waiting so long, the waitresses tried to make it right but the mood was killed by the. If your going here for your social status I would say walk in take ur picture and leave that’s all it’s really good for after Covid and don’t even get me started with the heat no matter how hot it is sit outside, they don’t have good enough ac to keep the place cool you can literally see heat waves on the floor of the place

I stepped into this place and ordered food and just wow!! I couldn’t believe what I was in for. Everything on the menu looked amazing so I tried the PHAT wrap!! It was probably one of the most amazing things I’ve eaten in my life. The atmosphere looked extremely nice and I want to actually eat inside the place the next time. The shake I also had was next to amazing!! If you ever go to the beach or just walk around Long Branch, don’t miss this spot!! You won’t regret it!! Please also try their Dutch Coffee, it’s truly addicting!

I appreciate them for being so kind even though we were those a-holes that showed up and hour before close. Love our little local Inkwell. A latenight chai tea is unforgettable there and the atmosphere is eclectic. Avoid if you dont like loud music.

NEVER AGAIN. My friends always want to go to this restaurant. I’ve been three times and every time has been a disappointment. My waiter took our order and that was the we saw of them. We had to wait an hour for food only to get it soggy. The prices are also expensive for the quality food.

Im from out of town and was visiting my sister and she and her boyfriend said I had to visit. This place was amazing, the atmosphere was incredible and unlike anything Ive seen. Food was very delicious and had a great selection to choose from and the service was awesome and very friendly. Im very jealous I dont have this where I am from and Im already excited for next time I come into town to go there again.

I’ve been a regular customer at the Inkwell since I was sixteen. The unique atmosphere and late hours are the reasons I’ve found myself coming back time and time again. The menu is large and the food is good for the most part, but the extremely poor customer service is what caused me to post a one star rating. I went here on a date recently and I was astounded by the lack of consideration given by the staff and the blatant rudeness I was met with.I understand that nobody comes to the Inkwell because the service and wait times are exceptional. But there is a base level of timeliness and professionalism that should be present in every establishment. My date and I sat down and a waiter came to take our order after we had been seated for thirty minutes. The waiter seemed nice enough and his pleasant demeanor was enough for us to dismiss the wait for the time being. But it took one hour for our food to come out of the kitchen and when it came out, the drink that I ordered was incorrect. I tried to get the attention of a couple of staff members to ask about it but my efforts were fruitless and the waiter who took our order was nowhere to be seen. I decided that the effort I could put into ordering the same drink a second time probably wasn’t worth however much time it would take to get the attention of the staff and have it come out of the kitchen.After another half hour of not being checked on by any staff, I approached an employee about receiving our check so that we could leave. She dismissively told me that I needed to wait for a server to come to our table and I proceeded to tell her that I hadn’t seen him since he took the orders over an hour prior. She rolled her eyes, said “That sucks,” and approached my table a few minutes later to tell my date and I that we would get the check soon. My date asked about the drink that was incorrectly made and the employee said that she would not take off any charge for it despite the mistake. She then left. Moments later, the waiter who originally took our orders approached our table and apologized as if he was scolded at by someone after I noted the poor service. It seems as if the staff members don’t regard one another with respect—he seemed very uncomfortable. The waiter did a poor job at seeing that our needs were attended to as customers, but he shouldn’t have been yelled at. Communication issues are evident and there was little regard for my experience as a customer.*I found out after leaving the restaurant that my boyfriend didn’t tip (which I wouldn’t have done myself, but I can’t exactly blame him for not tipping given the fact that no discount was given to compensate for the incorrect drink order or poor service in general). He left a personal item at the restaurant and he was yelled at by our server when he went to retrieve it. I understand why he took offense, but this was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional.After years of coming to this restaurant, the customer service was finally bad enough that I will not be returning. I’ve worked in food service for a considerable amount of time and I would never consider treating a customer in the fashion that I was treated with at the Inkwell. It’s very unfortunate that a small business with vegan options is run this way, as there are only so many. If you’re going to come here, get take out so that you don’t need to risk extreme wait times and rude encounters with staff.

Amazing place.

Went back to one of my old haunts tonight...The Inkwell. Much has changed over the years but some things never will like the ladies with their artist attire and colorful locks. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the menu was basically the same minus some of the simple fare from days past. Interesting artwork hangs on the wall while old and new music are piped in for everyones enjoyment. The food was good, quick to be served and tasty, but for me there was still something missing, maybe just a part of my youth. Fun after 50.

My husband and I love the food here. The wraps and all the sides are fantastic! Very hip and has good music. Could use some more indoor lighting around the tables, but other than that, its awesome!

Awful experience, granted we’re in a pandemic but the organization of this restaurant is unacceptable. They are only offering curbside and only have one person taking orders and running the orders to the car. They don’t offer a mobile order option so you have to call but can’t get through because they “took the phones off the hook”. Not to mention there was also a group of people with no masks on sitting around in front of the restaurant smoking and yelling explicits. DO NOT recommend!!

Terrible service.. Drove almost 2 hours to get 2 drinks, 1 for me, and 1 for my fiance. I used to live 10 minutes away and loved coming for there Dutch coffees, told my fiance all about it. So I called, and was told they do take out until 9:30PM (covid-19 hours) I came at 9:15, and was told they stop doing take out at 9pm. So I drove for 2 hours, for nothing. This was the last time theyll ever see me, completely ridiculous.

Stumbled in here for some frozen coffee. Wish we could have stayed for longer than grabbing our drinks to go but great place. Cool art on the walls, great staff and the Dutch frozen coffee was delicious! If Im ever back in that part of Jersey well definitely be stopping in again.

This place took me back to my college days of American comfort food. The restaurant setting is also very hip and college like. The food is good but obviously not very healthy. We got the fried Mac and Cheese and it was delicious. The chicken wrap and coffee is also great. I would come here again. Nice place but not a lot of real food options. Great for a dessert or date night too. Casual dining setting.

The Dutch Coffee is so good...Ive gone here multiple times just for the coffee. The hours in my opinion are great because when everything else is closed, they are a good option for food. Honestly, the service is usually pretty slow so make sure you have time to kill before you go. Food is better than average, atmosphere is great, and like I said, the coffee makes going there totally worth it.

Crazy late night place for Cafe/bar food. Cool atmosphere and good food. Milkshake was excellent. Fries were great! Service was fast and friendly. Prices were not cheap but were reasonable. Long bench beach is a block or two away!

Havent been there in a long time, but the chicken salad pita is still the best around. So glad its still on the menu, been getting it for almost 30yrs.The decor has changed, too dark and dreary. Used to be so much more colorful and fun with lots of artwork, light fixtures, etc from the 60s and 70s. But staff and music (and the infamous dutch coffee) still great!

This place has an excellent atmosphere... while people refer to it as, hippie they should actually refer to it as relaxing, more than anything. Very nice to be able to sit at the outdoor patio (season/weather permitting).While the service can be slow once in a while they are normally good. Food: Sandwiches are ordinarily okay, snack foods/fried foods are good, and the desserts are very good. The coffee is great!! Been told the hot cocoa as well.Highly recommend this place if you like relaxation or need to clear your mind, want a low key spot to take your significant other or a friend, or... well hell, just want to get out of the house for a great cup of coffee!!

Always an amazing time. Love the atmosphere and crowd, especially when they played my heart will go on and the whole room started singing along and some of us where dancing, a great place to make new friends. That and the chill atmosphere and staff make it so much better. Like you know how sometimes when you go out to eat and the staff are super professional and sometimes you feel awkward like ahhh how do I adult again? But its a fun chill time here.

Its more of a college crowd. Im a sucker for a good coffee place (which this is) but they also have great food. Employees always smiling, probably because of the awesome atmosphere and music. I found my place to unwind and grab a bite to eat. By the way, great desserts. Worth checking out for all ages. Much more laid back back and comfortable vibe.

I used to love going to this place but the last two times I went were enough to make me not want to go back. Both times we were sat and then ignored. Both times it took at least 30 minutes to even have someone come to our table. I dont mind waiting for my food when its busy. I understand that the kitchen is busy, so that isnt my complaint. Our server never even came to check on us the entire time we were there. We were honestly about to just leave cash on the table because we couldnt find him to get our check. We ended up being stuck there for almost 2 hours and a good hour and a half of that was spent being just sitting there being ignored. Im not the sort of person who likes to leave negative reviews. But the last time we went was so bad that I dont think I will ever go back. Its such a shame because its a cool place and has so much potential. If it was just the one time I would be more forgiving. I get that mistakes happen. But two times in a row is enough for me. Sorry, Inkwell. It was fun while it lasted.

Inkwell is one of my all time favorite late night diners. Staff is always super friendly and service is always top notch. Great atmosphere that really gives you a relaxed feeling. If you are going as your first time I recommend a Dutch Coffee and a Nic Wrap.

Ive known about inkwell for a couple of years, and in those couple of years I would go every once in awhile. I used to go just for a coffee and maybe something to eat, I still do that to this day, however somethings added on.The people that work there. I absolutely adore most of the staff, I come in fairly regularly with my best friend mostly every Thursday night to get something to eat and see the staff. We initially started going for the open mic nights on Thursday, however thats more of a summer thing and Im pumped for that to start up again.Inkwell can get fairly busy at times, however its definitely worth it to go. despite it being busy you usually get your seat fairly quickly if you have to wait, I havent eaten too much here, I would use you just get a coffee. However I recommend their burgers definitely, I enjoy some of the appetizers here, like the cajun fries and mozzarella sticks.Inkwell is one of those places that I look forward to going to because I just enjoy the scenery, and the fact that everyone is like minded and is there to have a good time.

Drove 50 minutes to this place, they gave us the ugliest spot to sit in (smelled terrible and looked like a storeroom). We had a a lot of people with us so we simply asked them to combine two tables together, and she completely refused.

This is literally the best place to chill out and eat. When with friends, this is the first place I always want to go. Plus, the food is fantastic and the staff is always so nice!

Right as I was leaving I somehow lost function of my left hand and spilled coffee all over the floor, one of the bussers gave me napkins and took care of it and filled my coffee back up for free. Great customer service. The burger was EPIC also.

Inkwell is amazing. The workers, the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere are all incredible. If your not much of a coffee drinker I recommend the Dutch coffee. You can have it hot or iced (I usually get hot) and its just yayy in a cup. My brother hates coffee but he loves the Dutch. We get it every time. Its a good place to relax and hang out with friends or go on a date night. They even have live music some nights and its really nice to see.

Lots of hipsters- but they do make quite the entertainment when its open mic, lots of talent here. Along with not being far from a gorgeous beach perfect for late-night walks, the great coffee and food, it is a great coffehouse. The only downside is how slow the service is, if you are coming here, youll easily spend 90+ min just waiting for food or drinks. It is worth it though.

Good place for a college student. I went there on the weekend, a Friday night specially and it was packed to the brim with Monmouth University students. Good coffee and rather prompt service despite the crowd.
