John is simply the best. Fair, knowledgeable, and a great person. He cleaned up an estate sale rug for me, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Literally a indo Persian rug I bought for $100 John cleaned up and appraised at $5-7k! And I’ve been taking all my rugs to John and he makes them beautiful again! 3 kids and a puppy ;)

The price was not too high and the quality of the work is top notch. Staff is professional and personal. Great knowledge of the service provided. I couldnt be more happy with the results. I will use this service again.

Contacted KC Rugs and John responded quickly. Had a family Persian my Father had bought in the late 1950s repaired and cleaned as well as an Iraqi tribal rug I brought from Baghdad. John was a wealth of knowledge, after picking up the rugs, he discovered my Father’s rug origin and date it was manufactured based on the unique blue dye and the design. I was very thankful to gain this information about this family heirloom. The rugs came back cleaned and the binding issues my Father’s rug had were repaired where I couldn’t tell there was an issue. I have dropped by John’s establishment to see the rugs he sells, cleans and repairs. His knowledge of rugs is to say the least impressive, and his attention to detail is meticulous.

As someone who has Never been into Rugs. More than walking. I was at a local thrift store with a friend and stumbled across a very nice hand woven very old and valuable Oriental large one. It was way too large for me to clean so I google Rug Cleaning and a few options came up. I started at the top and worked my way down. John, was the first to answer. He was eager to answer and questions I had. I made an appointment to bring the rug in and from the moment I walked in it was unlike any thing I had ever seen. John and his employee have an endless amount of knowledge and are eager to answer questions. I felt comfortable with them immediately. John called 3 days earlier than quoted and offered to deliver the rug. Just another amazing courtesy that sets him apart. He showed up, put the rug down and it was so amazing. Colors I has missed before just jumped off the rug. The price was lower than I had anticipated. Exceptional service. JC brought out the colors in a Chinese rug that I have never seen before. He is absolutely an unparalleled expert in the history of and the restoration of rugs, including those 200+ years old. I highly recommend John Gerstner. He recently completed a superb cleaning/restoration of an oriental rug that is of great sentimental value to me. He was generous with his time and lifelong knowledge - answering questions and sparking my curiosity about the stories behind the regional differences displayed in the creation of such rugs. He obviously loves what he does!

John did an absolutely wonderful job with our Turkish rug. The work was just perfect. In addition, he was exceptionally knowledgeable about our rug. We got an estimate of the value and lots of tips on how to periodically clean it and take care of it. We had a rug that had seven years of pets leaving urine “donations “ on it. John was able to perform miracles on that rug. It was s heavy pile Indian rugand it looks ( and smells) beautiful . We highly recommend his services.

KC Rug & Restoration is a Kansas City treasure! I found them several years ago and wouldnt trust my rug care to anyone else. The owner is dedicated to his craft, which in my opinion he has elevated to an art, utilizing his Austrian ancestors centuries-old rug cleaning and restoration techniques. For me hes handled basic cleanings, and beautifully executed repairs. My small area rugs have never smelled cleaner, or looked better, and Ive tried several KC companies in the past. Hes also a great subject matter expert . This guy KNOWS and LOVES rugs.

DO NOT RECOMMEND using this business. They are not dependable and fail to communicate on a regular basis. We sent expensive rugs to be cleaned. My husband made multiple attempts to coordinate a pick up but did not hear back. Later John texted my husband at 3am to tell him he had donated the rugs due to our failure to pick them up, a policy he never told us about. Highly recommend you do not trust this business.

I am a military officer whose schedule is not as predictable or flexible as some other folks’. John donated my rugs when I failed to retrieve them in what he considered a timely manner, despite my calling him several times to try to coordinate pickup. John did not inform me of any policy regarding donations, and never called to tell me he was unable to hold my rugs any longer. Do not use this business, especially if you’re military.

Don’t waste your money, this guy is a fraud! I took a large antique rug to John Gerstner for cleaning and repairs. The rug was filthy when it came into his shop, and it was filthy when it left. When I got the rug home, it was so dusty that I had to take it outside and shake it for over an hour! I was able to get out about 95% of the dust. He told me some story about the rug being “packed” with some substance to make it heavier. I should not have to pay hundreds of dollars to have a rug professionally cleaned to then have to come home and break my back shaking it to remove the dust! If I can remove the dust, so can he! His repair work was also mediocre. I also paid in advance for an appraisal on the rug, which I have not received yet. I have asked for a refund for the appraisal, which he has refused. I will not do business with nor recommend John Gerstner.

This company has the best service in the state by far and the owner is even better to work with. Very fare and the service is amazing.
