Uniquely unusual place. Pretty hipster. Lots of brands you cant find elsewhere and everything in the store seems to be organic. Fairly expensive though, $5 for one fancy locally brewed (the qualifier being made in Virginia so not completely local) beer and $4 for 3 homemade chocolate chip cookies. I will admit they were delicious though. A very interesting place, definitely worth visiting at least once just to explore

Cute store, everyone is very friendly. However, the prices are absolutely insane. Even for organic the prices are horribly expensive compared to other places that sell local organic or the farmers market / produce stands. I paid $13 and change for a bag of grapes the other day! I paid $2 and change for ONE apple. I guess if you don’t mind not saving money it’s great! But there are many other places to get local organic much less expensive.

Came to customer appreciation day again this year. Great service from such nice people. The prices and quality of food is amazing! Cant wait to come back.

Just amazing! This Friendly City Co-op has such a nice assortment of organic foods, cheeses and other items for healthy living. We got a freshly made spinach and chicken salad at the deli, cant wait to dig in.

🎉 Came here for the self serve lunch. Lots of fresh, quality ingredients at $8.49 a pound. Worth every penny and the entrees rotate each day. Coffee bar on-site, too.🌞 Theres a shaded, outdoor seating area to enjoy your lunch.💡Come here before noon if you want first dibs on the self serve lunch options. Otherwise, you might see scraps.⚠️ Theres free wifi, but it was spotty at best if youre sitting outside.

Lots of fresh produce along with a vast selection of groceries that caters to organics, health food, etc. I try to stop whenever I am on that side of town.

I bought in with a membership before they opened initially and had been a weekly customer ever since. While the recent expansion looks quite nice, the prices have increased significantly and I can no longer afford to shop there. How sad.

I feel grounded when Im standing in front of a nice head of lettuce in my bare feet.

Im glad that many organic foods are available at Friendly City. I like the organic decaf coffee, and save money by bringing my own mug.

This place has always felt like more than just a grocery store for me. It definitely has its own personality. Sure, it may only take up a small space, but its dense with funky little things. My favorites include the bulk food bins (featuring treasures like wasabi peanuts and smores trail mix), locally-produced global spice blends, the discounted ugly produce, the kombucha fountain, and a teeny DIY pizza section that you could blink and miss. I find new items nearly every time I visit. Im looking forward to a time when the Co-op can resume workshops and events, which range from an Eggnog Bowl to food tastings and cooking demos. But the absolute best part of the Co-op is the people who work there. Its been especially apparent in 2020. I am quite kooky, but every time I have put in an order for curbside delivery, the staff have been amazing in helping me work through what I want. Ive had many wonderful short conversations in the checkout line about many zany subjects. Im sure the cashiers would love to go home and sit in their pajamas instead of hear me talk about my cats for the 14th time. You rock, Friendly City Food Co-op!!

The Co-Op is ah-mazing. The staff are friendly and helpful. The produce section is small, yet mighty. I love the organic, local, independent food and goods they offer here. AND the prices are reasonable. Love this place. Take your time, wander the aisles, try something new as you pick up your favorites.

I didnt know they were expanding, but now they have more space for great products. Always a friendly staff and if you go in soon, I highly recommend the Homestead Eggnog (and they do bottle exchange, for when you inevitably go back for more). Felt safe, which was greatly appreciated.

This is Harrisonburgs answer to Whole Foods. A great answer! The store has great selection of Brands and the staff is superb. I cant wait until the expansion is complete and the selection expands. Im proud to be part owner of this fine Co-op. There are things that my wife and I eat brands etc. that are not available in area and Our CO-OP will special order them for us and they have such a pleasant attitude about doing so. Maybe the expansion will allow for some of these things to be brought into stock. You must visit the store and you will be stuck on it.

This is a great place for organic locally produced goods. Fresh vegetables and fruit always in stock. Local honey, a large assortment of grains and rice, grass fed beef, and farm fresh dairy are just a small part of this store. In addition you will find many vegan, organic, and regional dry and canned foods. They offer a great selection of wines and beers as well. I love the sense of community and partnership, it is a great place to shop.

This store has a wonderful selection of healthy foods. Gluten free, vegetarian, etc. I try and stop in here whenever Im in the area. The store smells amazing they have a decent selection of soaps, oils, personal care stuff that isnt full of chemicals. People love their food bar and selection of take and eat pre-packaged meals.

First time coming 5o the Co-op. Friendly staff and a very clean store. Produce was top notch! Great selection of flowers, vegetable plant, and pepper plants out front .

Its expensive healthy food not sure some how to prepare organic not sure the meaning of healthy or good quality food at reasonable price to protect the root good vs junk for the market to gain a buck by the way located in the middle of the poorest town myself homeless people welfare residents shop maybe if they can afford it l like to eat at emergency level assistance when I can afford too ha ha but I do not mind sometimes I be ashamed for my opinion facts and my truth

One of my favorite places in town! I love the idea, the lunch buffet, the grab-and-go options, the variety of natural and organic products, and most of all the staff. The prices are a little higher but you are paying for higher quality goods. I supported them by becoming a member-owner and while I dont shop there for all of my groceries Im in there on a fairly regular basis gabbing a thing or two.

I am CONSTANTLY going to the co-op! The staff is extremely friendly and the selections are fantastic! They are always running some sort of deal, and I love when they have local product outside that you can get at a very reasonable price! This is my go-to place for groceries, and I feel great after shopping there! :)

Always has an excellent selection of quality produce that is often hyper-local. A very well-stocked dry and bulk good selection can also be found here, though during the epidemic it is available in pre-measured containers. The dairy/dairy alternative case is stocked with local products as well as national brands and is a great place to find yogurt brands such as Siggis and Liberté marked down as they near the best by date.The cheese are is small but very thoughtfully stocked with more of the Sartori line than any other local retailer at a better price as well as local cheese. The freezer area isnt one that I shop often but there is a nice selection of natural and organic brands. The hot and cold bars are always very high quality, house-made selections.There is also an entire aisle dedicated to healthcare products that has a lot of selection. A good bit of it is dedicated to hocus pocus like homeopathy as is normal for most stores of the type.Friendly City probably has the best curated selection of beers in town and it certainly has the best selection of ciders around. Their wine selection is small but is very well stocked especially with fortified wines (sherry, Madeira, Port, etc) that are often overlooked in wine sections.They have very good prices on pet food if youre interested in grain free. They have the best price on PetGuard wet cat food Ive seen, even over online outlets once you add the shipping, as long as you order by the case.Im very excited for the expansion and do a lot of my shopping here.

Always a super place to shop! I love the fresh spices that I can buy in the amount I need for a recipe. The fresh fruit and veggies are amazing and the wine selections are super.

I went there looking for coffee and beer, and they didnt disappoint. They have a good selection of local and fair trade coffee with a variety of roasts and sources. They also picked up some of the beer slack left behind when the bottle shop closed - decent selection of hard to find beers and plenty of local stuff. Ill definitely be going back for coffee, beer, and probably more.

Great selections of organic/vegan/vegetarian/local foods. It can get a little bit pricey shopping there, but they usually have some great coupons available as soon as you walk in. I love their Thai Tofu wrap when Im hungry and in a hurry. They also offer a great selection of craft beers now! If youre willing and able to spend a little bit more on your groceries, then you will be very happy with the quality of products and friendly staff that youll find here.

Expensive but very good food. Keifer soda is exceptional here, and you can get specialty organics and local produce. The kambutcha is really refreshing and I love to grab one now and again while I game at the store next door.

Amazing staff and selection everytime

I love this store. They have everything I need for my gluten free and dairy free diet. They also carry a large variety of meatless proteins for my daughter who is a vegetarian. They are always friendly and helpful too.

My favorite place to pick up groceries. They have such a great variety of healthy produce and packaged goods. A very reliable place to purchased vegetarian and vegan staples. The staff are always helpful and friendly, and this truly is a hub for community when I always seem to encounter neighbors, acquaintances, and friendly faces.

Small store, but a decent selection of organic and equal exchange products. Try buying spices, seeds, and nuts in bulk, its way cheaper. Plus, you can grind your own peanut butter and pour raw honey.

Coffee, dry beans, bulk foods, fresh fruits, and veggies oh my. Friendly City Food Co-op is now a staple for the food in our home. I love being able to get my milk here too. It really makes conscientious shopping convenient for me. A beautiful setup and great atmosphere all around.

Great place to shop

Place is ridiculously overpriced and for no reason. Few things are cheap,. The quality is all hype too.. but, they have some local stuff, some unusual stuff, and their wraps and foods are very good usually. They have to work on those prices, not even a hotel charges so much for stuff

They have a great selection, and wonderful prices. The staff is super friendly. If you are looking for great prices on fair trade and organic foods, or inexpensive coffee and spices, this is the place for you!

The Food Co-Op is a nice addition to Harrisonburg. They have items you dont find in other stores...especially organic. I like the dark chocolate covered ginger and several organic single serving soups.
