I have been in a few times and feel the salesman I was dealing with was professional and did his job. People did seem on edge there and after reading other reviews I now know why. It seems the owner is not afraid to throw his own employees under the bus and the fact that every conversation is recorded is rediculous and a violation of customer rights without their knowledge. I was looking to make a purchase here and now feel my privacy is violated at this place of business and will go elsewhere at this point. First question I will ask the next place tomorrow.... Am I being recorded?

Called Tuesday with questions on a mower deck for a tractor. Was told they would check on it and get back with me as when they would be able to get me in.. Hmm. This is Thursday havent heard back. This is approx 3000 bucks what I would be spending. Thinking of going somewhere else. All it would have taken was a return call. By the way silvis couldnt return calls either. Paul you need to work on you employees returning calls when they say they will. Just took a star away.

The staff at the counter decided to argue with me about a part that I needed, telling me I was incorrect on the fitment of said part. I traveled 40 miles to another store (not River Valley) to get the party I needed, which worked out great. Cocky attitude lost a sale and any future sales from me. Shame, because I shopped there many times throughout the year. Never again, I will order online or travel to get what I need.

We bought our rider, walk-behind mower, and snow blower here. I took the walk-behind in for a tune-up last fall, and was told by Cameron that the self-propulsion in the rear wheels was worn. I said to go ahead and fix it, as I expected there would be some wear-and-tear after as long as wed had it. It was promised after 2-3 business days, but after no word for a week, I called and was told there was a delay on a part. I was promised a call the next day to let me know if the part had come in so I could manage my day-to-day accordingly, but did not get a call and called myself for an update after 4pm. This happened TWICE on consecutive days. When I complained that Cameron didnt call as promised to keep me updated on whether the parts had arrived, I was told that the techs in back dont make phone calls. After finally getting the mower fixed (and some major inconveniences to my schedule), I got it back and proceeded to cut the grass. Fifteen minutes in, a rear wheel CAME OFF. After several more days and another run-around of fixing it again, I got it back and finished the lawn, then stored it for the winter. After several uses this spring, the rear wheels became loose and now sit at an angle. I called and said that Id like to have it properly reassembled, but the owner refused to guarantee to make it right, instead insisting that, if the problem was something new, such as a bad axle (he estimated $200), I would be expected to pay for that. I said that I figured if something like a bad axle was missed the last TWO times this was already fixed, then he ought to eat that cost in light of the inconvenience itd caused a customer whod previously purchased all of his equipment there. Unfortunately, $200 is worth more to this business than providing sensible customer service to make a problem right.

Was interested in purchasing a push mower from this location with my step-father.Stood by the displays for 15 minutes waiting for an employee to help (store was empty, mind you), meanwhile 3 employees Moe, Larry, and Curly all stood behind the desk playing a game of slap and tickle with each other.Needless to say....Our business has went elsewhere.

Update: the owner reached out to me after my review. While we didn’t agree on everything, we determined an employee who no longer works there was the main factor in our negative experience. I’m changing this to 4 star because I believe the owner was sincerely sorry we had this issue/misunderstanding after it was determined we dealt with this former employee.Worst experience ever. Do not bring anything here to be fixed or repaired. My wife brought hedge trimmers in asking if they could fix them. They said all that was needed were the blades cleaned up should be ready next day. They called the next day and said bearing were shot and it’s not worth fixing. THEN CHARGED HER $50 for the diagnosis. Unbelievable. Go somewhere else.

Had a very good experience. Talked with the owners and they made me feel as if I was a life long friend. Nice to know that smaller, local business owners still can thrive in this economy, and still treat customers as if they were family. I recommend talking with paul if he is available. Good people.

I bought trimmer from them for $650.00+ used it approximately 2 1/2 months (20 to 25 hours) only for the engine to blow up. Paul, the owner, said I ran the engine with out oil. I checked it before each and every use. River Valley Turf would not cover it under any kind of warranty. From there, they proceeded to try an charge me $178.00 diagnostic fee. Unfortunately, they have my money and my machine form your opinion on this matter.I have had the pleasure of working with several other John Deer dealers in surrounding area that value me as a customer and represent John Deere in a professional manner. I have since purchased a new John Deere tractor and multiple accessories from other dealers in the area. So please, do not judge John Deere by this dealer, he doesnt do the brand or the company justice, and tarnishes John Deeres name.I will not be purchasing anything from River Valley Turf. Fortunately, there are other more qualified dealers in the area, such as Holland & Sons in Geneseo, IL. They are my new dealer.

The only reason I am giving one star, is to be able to write the review. Do yourself a favor and take your needs elsewhere. My family has been River Valley Turf customers for years. We have purchased our mowers here and every spring take our mowers in for tune-ups (Blades sharpened, oil changed, etc). This year was no different. They came to pick up our mower, spent about a week on it, and then returned it to my home. It sat in the garage for a week or so, due to the rain amounts we had. Once a nice day hit, I got the mower out, started it up and began mowing our backyard. I got about 5 strips done before the entire mowing deck unlatched and fell completely off. I called RVT to come pick up the mower for repair. After spending some time assessing the damage, they called to tell me there is no way they could have been responsible for the deck falling off. They stated they never even took the deck off, and that the cause of the deck falling off was due to a pin in the front being disengaged. They claimed that had in came disengaged while in their care, the mower deck would have dismantled while being loaded on the trailer for delivery or while being taken off the trailer once returned. They stated that the pin must have came out while in my care. The simple fact that I mowed roughly 5 strips of the backyard before the deck dismantled already dismisses their claim that it couldnt have happened while in their care. They asked me to come in and take a look at what they were talking about, which I did. Since it could not be proven as to how this happened, we agreed to split the cost. I was told by the owner, my cost would be $200. Once returning home, I reviewed the receipt, which includes a portion at the bottom where the tech types in any additional notes. Sure enough, typed in to the notes was Took deck off to add oil. So theres an issue, because I was told more than once the deck was never taken off. When we called RVT to discuss this with them, their response was Oh, we typed that in there on accident. Accident... really? At this point they were tripping over their own lies. What else was thrown on to our bill by ACCIDENT?? They refused to take any responsibility for the damage, or even admit to their dishonesty. They still asked us to pay our portion for their negligence. I called them to tell them I was on my way to pay our portion and was told We didnt charge you for the labor which came to $79, so youre portion is $216. Interesting. I was first told a flat $200, now that you saved me $79, I now owe OVER that flat $200. Completely dishonest, sneaky and untrustworthy. Not the kind of business we look for to service such an expensive machine. Can you imagine if these people worked on your vehicles, replacing tires?? Do yourself a favor, and your pocketbook too, and go somewhere else. Any where else. They dont have several bad reviews for no reason.
