O, to be back in Dallas in the trusting arms of Deep Vellum again. Love this bookstore and adore the folks working there. I would follow Riley around the world if it meant having access to her book collection. I mean truly! what starshine to witness her witnessing me, and then conjure up the most perfect book recommendation.

Stopped in this cute little store, and we are so glad we did. We knew immediately after walking in that we wouldn’t leave with empty hands. The ladies working were so fun and friendly, and genuinely interested in helping us find something we’d like. Such a pleasant experience! :)

Such a book lovers dream. Great things come in just the right packaging and this book store is definitely the right way to spend a title touring day. It has everything and the feel that a real book lover seeks. Its been a difficult time with covid and book signings, so I understand the value of a store like this one. So kind the staff and I cannot wait to get another visit there. My name is Roger Browning. I am a novelist and my latest book is now out on amazon. Its about a troubled modern day ranching family in Texas and is titled, The Reckoning of Rance.

This small business is more than a bookstore; its also a publishing house, cafe (of sorts), a place to meet and greet authors and other bibliophiles...Unlike big bookstores the staff here is happy to engage in conversation and will definitely have a recommendation or two of new books from the smaller publishers they carry. A great place to visit in Deep Ellum!

The staff are super helpful, never had a problem finding what Im looking for. Lots of great community events, and great conversations. They know a lot about books and seem very passionate about their job. The environment is cozy, and inviting. The books are unique, interesting subject matter that you dont see anywhere else. All around great book store. Be prepared to spend a little bit of money, though, the books arent usually cheap, but still absolutely worth it.

This is Dallas’ best independent publisher and book seller. The store isn’t huge by any means, but it has an extremely well-curated selection. That means that I always find something interesting and unexpected. Come here to find something that you didn’t know you wanted.

Deep Vellum books is one of those places I pop over to whenever I have a free moment in time to just chill and talk to their amazing staff. I always grab a glass of wine and a poem out of the poem vending machine. For a quarter I get the privilege of having a folding piece of paper spit out some prose from a Dallas author. This place has Dallas authors everywhere and there is something for everyone. I got a great book recently full of short ghost stories all based in Dallas landmarks. Go check them out and have fun!

This bookstore is full of all types of literary adventures. They have a great array of local books and also other artists whose work is through provoking. The staff there is wonderful and will give you great suggestions. Id recommend checking out their date with a book section where you pick a random book based on a small description that matches your interests.

Local independent bookstores have become an endangered species, so its a delight to find one fighting upstream the e-book river. Deep Vellum is a retail outlet for theyre on line of books, mostly translations of foreign language novels. But they also stock other independent publishers. If youre looking for something unique, give them a try.My only real complaint is that the store is so small and has a very limited selection.

A well stocked locally owned bookstore, with wine, beer, and coffee. Do you really need to read reviews? How could that not be magic?Okay fine, yes its magic. The chairs are comfy. Drinks are well priced. And then theres books. New books, strange books, unique books, great books.

Very quaint place to pick up some interesting new reads. Lots of books published by smaller publishers you may not have normally heard of are sold here. Most recently picked up a translated version of the book by Yuri Herrera here called Signs Preceding The End of The World and it was a good read I cant say Id have found elsewhere. Im sure I could have, but itd have been harder. This place just puts them right in front of you. Will be back.

They have a whole section of books on radical leftist propaganda but zero books for the other side. I dont trust any establishment that only caters to one side of the coin. It is important to have knowledge of both sides to be properly informed.

Im visiting Dallas for work and try to make a point of going to some fun places when Im in any town. I have a deep love for bookstores, as many do, and this place is possibly the best one Ive ever been to. The selection was entirely foreign to me, which I loved because Im tired of B&N. I got so many books while I was here, and I could have gotten many more. The staff is so nice as well - we chatted and she helped me find a lot of wonderful books. Im so sad I dont live near here - Pittsburgh needs to take a leaf out of Dallas book (ha?).

Ra
Review №39

The perfect bookstore! (for me, at least) I read almost entirely world literature, often in translation, and if not from university presses, its from small presses like Deep Vellum carries. Every time Ive visited them their selection has been excellently varied, and the way they have the store laid out (by publisher) gives customers an easy way to help themselves find more of what they like. Theyll also order books for you!

Jo
Review №40

We used to love stopping in here to have a drink and see what was new. Over the last few months the selection has not changed at all and it just seems to be getting small and smaller. Also, I agree with the previous review, the new tattoo covered gentleman who I think is the manager has taken all the charm out of this store. I hate to say it but I feel like this is another casualty of the neighborhood changing.

Love reading? Then come check this place out. They have mini zines in a vending machine. Blind date with a book so you get a description but dont know the title until you buy it. They also have work from local writers and frequently have local artists come in for different events. The staff is also amazing. I love going there.

Small, independent bookstore in Deep Ellum. I give them five stars for the concept of their publishing house: take foreign language bestsellers and translate them to English for the American market. 3 stars because they didnt have as extensive of a selection as I had hoped (its really a small place). They do have a little cafe and a kids book section. Worth checking out if youre in the neighborhood.

I love this place, I always visit when I am in the area. I was looking around and the lady there (I sadly forgot her name) asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I told her everything I had read so far and was trying to find something in the suspense mystery area that didnt involve cops. She suggested the perfect book for me, and I had other people read it.This book shop is full of local authors, and hard to find reads. The people who work there KNOW the books that they sell, and it always sells great due to the coffee and paper of the books.I always tell my friends about it when they want to find a new book to read, but are tired of the hyped up books that recently came out.I hope this place stays open for a very very long time.
