Peggy is absolutely amazing! I loved working with her. She has so much joy and she will definitely take care of you and make sure you get what you want. Also, they did a great job on my light.

I called Custom House Lighting today to ask them if they could refer someone to clean my chandeliers. Even though I was not a customer, they were so friendly and generous with their time. I was impressed with how kind they were to me and now have two people I can call for a bid. Thank you!

Review №3

I originally placed the order with Peggy, and asked precisely if they were able to replace my dimmer switch on my standing lamp that recently blew out, and if not, then I was going to take my business elsewhere. I also stated that I needed a weight at the bottom to hold the lamp upright since it recently fell onto the floor causing it to be tilted. I left my other lamp there so that they had an idea how it was supposed to be, and how I wanted it. When Peggy called to inform me that my lamps were ready for pickup, I drove down and discovered the weight was installed into the wrong one, and she asked me, How did I know? Really?! Clearly, I know the difference between my lamps because the one was still tilted, wobbly, and also it has a small scratch on top of the base from hitting my couch during its fall. I also noticed the one they put the weight on, in which they removed the entire under-bottom base and placing felt across the bottom, hoping I wouldnt notice. OMG, this was my perfectly good lamp, used just as a model !!! It wasnt until I picked up my 2nd lamp and brought it home that I discovered all the differences. This is when I tried calling and no-one returned my call. Upset with them completely messing up on very minor fixes and spending my money on their mistakes made me even more upset. How much more clearly did I need to explain what my expectations were? I speak perfectly well English, and am very precise on what I wanted done. I drive back over there with my daughter, bringing both lamps with me to show John the differences that I mentioned over the voicemail. First, he got defensive and was adamant stating someone had contacted me, and I mentioned that no-one had returned my call, therefore, the reason I decided to come back in-person, to show him first-hand exactly what I was speaking of over the voicemail I had left. Then John got irritated stating that the person should have explained to me that they dont do dimmer switches. When I showed him both lamps and told him the dimmer switch I asked about specifically when placing the order, and was told at that exact time that you could do it, otherwise I would have gone somewhere else. I then resumed showing him the bottom of both lamps and he got extremely angry, especially when I stated that the under-bottom base of the one wasnt there. He stated the work was done according to invoice, although when Peggy marked items to be fixed, she didnt specify which of the 2 lamps needed the dimmer switch and which one needed the weight. I had mentioned to Peggy exactly what I wanted done and leaving my lamp that was the better one of the 2 as an example (model) ONLY of what I expected done since the other one didnt turn on and was only getting a new shade for it. By now, John had gotten so angry, and yelling at me (the customer) as if I did something wrong. My daughter started shaking because she got scared and didnt understand how an adult older employee couldnt follow simple and straight-forward directions. I told him that I was utterly appalled at his poor customer service and I had planned on bringing in more lamps to have minor repairs done on them as well, but not anymore. After leaving his business, I went a few doors down (where I initially planned on going because Ive dealt with them in the past, and they do high-end work, in which they were closed the day I wanted to drop mine off, due to moving) to get their opinion of the job that was done, and the money I got charged. The person whom I spoke with said they were sorry this happened to me, and yes, the job was very poor, and Custom House Lighting should have been honest and forthcoming in what they were capable of doing. I was told that they were going to stop referring business to them because of what they did, how they handled the situation, and not taking responsibility for their mistake. Not professional at all !!!!

This is a very high end lighting design shop that caters to the upper class in the area. Or also happens to be the only competant lamp repair shop for miles around.
