Loved it. Clean utensils, tables, bathrooms. Wait was about 20 min and 100% worth it. Ordered chicken n waffles benedict. It was so good Im thinking of going back next week. Wife ordered chocolate chip pancakes- fluffy with just the right amount of chips. Decent coffee. Service was great, I understand it was the early breakfast rush but the waitress could have acted like she was happy to be there. Nonetheless, I had a great experience and I highly recommend this spot. See you soon

This place is amazing! The food portions are perfect and the staff is super welcoming. It is our familys go to for breakfast or lunch. Im a big fan of the build your own omelette and of course the taylor.ham egg and cheese on a fresh roll. Highly recommend!!!

My husband and I have been coming here for years. The owners are super nice and make us feel like extended family. They always greet us, ask how we are, and even chat with us when they have time. The food is amazing. Some of our favorites are waffle Benedict, pumpkin pancakes (when in season), bacon (they make it perfect every time), steak & eggs, Cobb salad, and gyro platters. The gyros are the best!

This is our go-to place for comfort food, even during the pandemic when we could only do curbside takeout. They have a wide variety of food at reasonable prices, and the service is always friendly. Some of our personal favorites are the Belgian waffles, the chocolate chip pancakes, the Tex Mex rolls, and of course the Mile High chocolate cake. The only thing we wished they offered that they dont is potato skins.

Went here with my wife. First time since I got kicked out of here as a kid decades ago.My wife absolutely loved her food. She had cheeseburger and disco fries. She said it was delicious.I was so thrilled with my tuna fish sandwich. I asked for tomato on it and instead got lettuce. Luckily my wife gave me the tomatoes from her cheeseburger.The service was friendly. I really like the vibe in the place. Im very glad they left it the way it always was instead of trying to turn it into a restaurant.I would definitely return.

Been a Bergen County staple for more years than Id like to admit knowing! Its a never disappointing NJ diner! Ive been going here since HS.....and now MANY years later its always a good stop.

I went to this diner with my class for a field trip and I ordered penne vodka there and told them “no Parmesan cheese” as I hate strong-smelling cheeses and guess what? They snook it in thinking that I wouldn’t taste it by adding it in the sauce and I accidentally tasted it and it tasted like vomit. Then I was just staring at it in disgust and sent it back to the kitchen, then they gave me a new one without Parmesan in the sauce and I was still unsatisfied. The pasta was too soft and the sauce was very runny and more like soup than a sauce. They don’t make good pasta here but otherwise, the other food is good.

Typical diner experience. The menu is very large and has a lot of options for vegetarians and anyone who is gluten-free. We came for breakfast and everyone enjoyed their options. You can build your own omelette and you can substitute a lot of options—I got fruit instead of potatoes, they have English muffins and bagels instead toast and even gluten free toast. The waitress we had was no frills no b.s., when we asked if the corned hash was gluten free (one of my friends is allergic to gluten), her response was “I have no idea” and made no offer to check. Coffee was standard, they don’t have an espresso machine so don’t expect to get a latte or cappuccino. Overall the food was good and service was fast for how busy it was on a Sunday morning.

Food was okay even though everyone in our party got the wrong order. The waiter wasn’t overly friendly and did not check in on how the food was until after we finished eating.

Im terribly sorry to admit that Matthews Diner has gone a bit downhill in recent years. I will excuse some of the decline for COVID, but I can no longer deny that this Diner is not the same anymore. Slow service, lack luster food and smaller than normal Diner portions are just a few reasons for the opinion.

I waited 4yrs to come back to this amazing restaurant and they did not disappoint!! Fast friendly service (You could tell they were smiling even with masks on) Portions are HUGE and the prices are reasonable. Food was hot and we had a party of 9 and waited 15min, it was wonderful!! We ate outside in a lovely perfectly vented but warm tent (We did have the option to eat inside as well) The restroom was clean (Always a plus) Im from Wisconsin and dont get to NJ often but I cant wait to come back!!

Wow excellent food. The food made up for the 3 star rating for service though. Dont even ask if you liked your food or wanted more to drink. The bbq 12 oz burger is amazing though. Probably wint visit there again bit the food was good.

Havent been there in a long time. The menu is smaller because of Covid-19, but its a good variety. Service was great. The tables are far apart. We felt safe and enjoyed our food.

They’re so lazy they couldn’t be bothered to chop up the onion they put in my salad. Literally had an onion “baseball” in my salad. That was on top of a whole string of other errors as well. I genuinely had no idea a human being could mess up a salad so bad.

Great food and amazing service! Everyone was super friendly and made us feel welcomed and at home. Waiter constantly checked if everything was okay and was very punctual with everything. Food came out fairly quickly and the quality was excellent. Can’t wait to be back !

We had dinner at Mathews Diner tonight and it was delicious. We were three and we each had different meals and one was better than the other. Only complaint was too much food. We have enough for dinner tomorrow. We always enjoy eating at Mathews. Food good, service great and a very friendly atmosphere even with everything that is going on! Go visit Mathews and see for yourself!!!

Meant to write a review before now but in light of the Covid Pandemic, I feel compelled as I’m floored with the extreme gratitude Matthews Diner shows to their customers. When placing an order, the man who answers has the most most comforting voice and takes his time. The order comes with a handwritten note expressing how thankful they are to their customers during this time. When I have dined in, its always busy but service is very prompt. The food is always good and others agree too.

A nice place, however, I had to give 3 stars due to how a waitress treated a customer. As I watched her(Customer) call for her(waitress), she looked at her as if she was annoyed. In my mind I can only imagine if the customer simply felt uncomfortable in going to that waitress but they both were stuck with her for the duration of there time eating.There is another instance where Ive witnessed the Staff not being friendly to the customers. The place is generally nice, but, be careful whom you have as your waiter /waitress because not all of them are really friendly, some can be not so kind.

Been eating at Mathews since I was a teenager. Everytime I walk in I see the same familiar faces Ive been seeing over the years greeting me at the door and seating me at a table. They may even possibly have the same chef cooking since I was a teen because it take exactly the same from then to now. Overall its a reliable and friendly place to grab a bite breakfast lunch or dinner.

They provide a good amount of food for the price! The taste is pretty decent as well! One of my family’s go to diners!

Good fast dinner food. Big parking lot. Great place to get lunch during work hours. They also have a great lunch special soup, main course and a great chocolate brownie.The reason it doesnt have 5 stars is that the spoon I had was dirty.

The best hamburgers in town for sure are Pita Burger! Theyre handmade not frozen add a salad bar and you have the most delicious lunch or dinner!Tonight I went and had steak and their rib I was actually really really good!

Matthews seems like a really nice place. The food here was a nice set of filling diner food, and the staff was really nice to both myself and my kid, who could be a bit rowdy! If youre into touring Jersey diners, this is a good place to check in.

My husband and I like coming here when we visit the area. It can be busy during the holidays. I like the service and quality when it is not too busy. So if there is no available parking. That means you should come back at another time.👍🏾 You may need to be specific on how you want your food to be served. Ie:(hot/warm, lightly toasted, not burned) A must go for my family and I when we visit twice a year.

Had a wonderful mothers day here. Mom always loves to come to Mattherws. Not only are we fans but I brought my lady and shes a fan now too.

Visited from ohio to try this place. WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I left a few things behind to be able to fit my leftovers in my baggage. I thoroughly enjoyed my mushroom panini the next day at home. Wonderful server!

The way a diner should be! Food and Service are constantly great.There are plenty of places that closer to my house but I’d rather drive an extra 5 minutes to have a quality experience at Matthews Colonial Diner.

The banana pancakes were great, as was the corned beef hash browns. The Belgian waffles were spot on with the fresh fruit too. The prices were good, the establishment was clean and spacious so there was plenty of seating. It was busy when I went. Despite that I was seated quickly and the food came in good timing. If I find myself in Jersey again Id definitely come back here for breakfast. I want to definitely try the spanakopita too. Oh and staff did a good job making sure the experience was smooth from eating to recommendations to checking up on the table etc.

We Goggled for a diner on our way home. Mathews was highly rated. It was definitely worth the detour. Only two things prevent me giving them a 5 star rating. 1). The bathroom stalls were ridiculously too small. 2). My daughters barbeque burger was horrible. The sauce tasted like sugar water.

Typical NJ diner, never had an issue with food or service. If they have the means to make it for you, theyll customize anything on the menu to your liking. Even when its busy, the wait is typically minimal. Food comes out together and fresh/hot. A go-to establishment for locals.

Very cute diner with a cute cozy interior. Definitely different from most diners Ive been to. The food is good, usual diner food. However, the coziness if it makes it much better which is why I can see how its always busy!

The food was very good. We had a bus group that stop by unexpectedly. The manager went out of his way to accommodate our group. The staff acted in a very professional manner.
