This is the only place I donate items. Albany Helping Hands is such a wonderful non profit. They help shelter feed and help men and women with substance abuse. Also if youre buying a Christmas tree they are the place to go! They have three locations. Every year we buy our fresh Christmas tree from them. A beautiful tree every year and the money goes to an amazing non profit.

They usually arent very nice to me here anyways, but this time wasnt a very good experience at all. I came in and ended up finding a small terra cotta pot that was supposed to be for $0.50. When I went to purchase it, I asked if they were able to break a $20, after a small pause they said yes. I was fine with $1s but they only gave me back $18 which meant I spent $2 for the small pot, when they could have just told me they couldnt break a $20 and I would have come back with $0.50. Honestly. doesnt make any sense, but I wont come back either way, they dont seem to be lgbtq+ friendly.

I did notice someone out back when I came out to look at the chairs that were out there. I also walked through the store looking for baskets. Once I was leaving I noticed someone behind the desk. It would be nice if someone said hello.

The trouble with this place is that they have the smallest customer base, yet they seem to think that pricing things higher than every other thrift store in the area is a winning strategy. The place is an absolute wreck with things falling off the shelves, laying all over the ground and in the way. The main reason for this is that the sell through is so atrocious that they just keep adding more overpriced stuff to the other overpriced stuff that never sells. Now and then you might get lucky and find something for a decent price, but that is not going to keep people coming back when 3/4 trips end the same way, walking away empty handed. If the aim is to raise funds for their mission, then they need to focus more on retaining customers and not driving them away with their eBay style pricing. There is no reason to shop there when you go to even Goodwill of all places and find things cheaper. Its a shame that Helping Hands does not realize that what something is worth on eBay or Amazon is not what someone is going to pay in a random, tiny little store in a city that almost nobody has ever heard about, or will ever go.They could raise 100 times the money if they got their act together and ran their small, local thrift store like it was a small local thrift store.

Not sure if it was just that day but it smelled bad in there. Not much for stuff in there. Seemed like there was higher quality stuff hidden away in the employee only back room. Front staff was talking loudly on the phone and ignoring everyone. Didnt stay long because again it smelled really bad.

A thrift store that provides financial support for our only homeless shelter in town. Its not a huge thrift store but is a necessity to help finance the shelter. It is a responsible thing to do by at least stopping there if your out thrift shopping. Prices are definitely better than the (2) larger thrift stores in town; Goodwill and St. Vinnies which in my opinion, are not thrift stores. They are stores who sell donated items at very unreasonably prices. The value of their buildings and the property they sit on are direct evidence that their non-profit status is very suspicious.

I happen to pop in on a sale day, everything was half off. The prices of things arent always labeled, which provides opportunity for haggling. They are attentive, so if you are a browser this may be a bit annoying. Although, I do think too much attention is better than having none at all. Despite the shabby aesthetic, there are a lot of hidden gems and its definitely worth a look. I ended up buying a dining room table for $15, which I thought was a really great deal.

The homeless shelter these people have to work for is awful. It is infested with bed bugs on a regular basis. I was homeless for a short time between jobs and have no criminal record and a education.I was treated with the uttermost contempt by the staff members in this place while having to walk in circles around the sales floor in-between customers.Due to the fact that I am squeaky clean and have not been in and out of jail my entire life. This place is a horrible ex con set up. Most of the people that work here have been in and out of jail there entire lives and have no people or job skills. They treat the employees with the worst kind of disrespect. They are all smiles when they see regular members of the community come in to shop here. But once the seeing eyes and listening ears are gone its back to normal.I thought I would write this review since bed bugs are transferable to clothing in case anyone thought about shopping here. Buyer beware.

Poorly managed. Over priced. Back warehouse is a junk yard and completely unorganized. Front store is littered with trinkets while back room is fully stocked with valuable items that managers keep mostly for themselves.

I hate it im on parole and i have no choice to live at albany helping hands and work at the thrift store i have bug bites all over and im treated like i piece of crap my manager at the thrift store bullys me and has gotten in my face and asked me if i wanted fight cause i was asking him calm down they sell stained and dirty dishes and the people at the thrift store handle the clothes and linens even though we have bed bugs and when they bug clean the dorms we sleep in they do one dorm a day so the bugs just move to where there not spraying instead of bombing the whole place so yeah it sucks really bad not to mention more than half the people living there have no ambitions to have a job or a real house....
